Chapter Twenty-Six

“Charlie I’ll take it from here,” I said intercepting his next question even though he looked uncomfortable talking to Mar when she was crying. “Follow through with what we talked about earlier and get more Super’s here. Then find out what the heck our Parents are up to. I worry more about them then I do the government.”

“Good call JP. Ok I’ll get on it,” he said jumping up and taking off again.

I pulled Mar from the chair and wrapped my arms around her. “Its ok baby I am here and together we can do anything.” I waited for her to calm down and when she finally looked at me and realized I wasn’t leaving her she seemed to get better. “What would you like to do first while we wait for everyone else?”

“Talk to a rabbit,” she said smiling.

I laughed and we went to the SPCA where all the rabbits were in cages, blue in one cage and pink in another. We didn’t need to see if the whole breed like rabbits was a thing or not. She got comfortable and with the help of a deputy from the station they brought us a pink rabbit.

Mar, while holding my hand, Mar said “Transverto.” Then she squirmed a little as the spell shot through her. The rabbit changed instantly into a young woman who was completely naked. One of the workers from the SPCA got her a white coat and she immediately put it on. She was mad, I could tell that much, but the look she gave Mar was brutal. It could have easily been me who did the spell so I wasn’t sure why she gave her that look.

“Mar you know this woman?” I asked because this didn’t sound like it was going to be pleasant from her tone of voice.

“Oh yes, this is Anna White, we shared an office at North Distributing. I think she is also sleeping with the boss. Not that I care now, but looking back it makes a lot more sense. Wait, I want to tape this conversation.” She said and then grabbed her phone and played with it for a second and then set it down so it encompassed everyone in the picture.

“So Anna, you were dumb enough to follow him on this fool’s errand, why?” Mar asked.

“I don’t have to answer your questions. You can’t keep me here, I’m human, I have rights, unlike your kind.” She sneered.

“Well that explains that, doesn’t it? Well back to being a bunny then, but this time you can go in with the boy bunnies.” Mar said smiling evilly. This wasn’t like Mar, I was starting to worry.

“You can’t do that. I’m human,” Anna screamed.

“Well I always thought I was too, so I guess it’s in the eye of the beholder, and I’m looking at a very popular bunny rabbit. I wonder if what they say about bunnies breeding is true. Of course you probably already know about one of them, but there must be hundreds in there. This should be interesting.”

“You can’t, they’ll kill me.” She screamed again.

“Oh but what a way to go,” Mar said snidely.

“Fine what do you want to know?” She said giving up. I really hoped Mar was just threatening her and was not really going to do it.

“I assume that ass Oliver is in there.” Mar said pointing to the blue rabbits.

“Yes,” she said sullenly.

“So how long have you too been doing the rabbit dance,” Mar asked snidely.

“Not that it’s any of your business but we have been seeing each other for over a year.” Anna said proud of her statement.

“You realize he is married right?” Mar asked her.

“He’s getting a divorce and then we are going to be together.” She said like that explained her actions.

“Yup and were the monsters,” Mar said. “I assume he hates all Supernaturals and he dragged you along for the ride?”

“We all do, you and your high and mighty opinions of yourself. The world would be better with all of you gone.” She screamed at us.

“You just got through telling me that I’m not even human and now you say I have high opinions of myself. I think you need to check your facts Missy.” Mar screamed back.

“Really, the whole lot of you refer to yourselves as Supernatural’s, don’t you think that explains everything. You have already placed yourselves above everyone who is not, which would be the rest of us, humans that is. So if you are better then you cannot be humans, can you?” She finished with a smile that I know she thought she deserved for making a point.

“So because you didn’t like the classification that gave you the right to start killing us? Oh Anna, you are pathetic.” Mar said shaking her head.

“I don’t see you denying it,” Anna shot back. “Here is a news flash, you aren’t super, your monsters, and that is what your new classification will be. Then we will be monster hunters and in the right. The president is already working on it.”

“As I see it, we are humans, and for your crimes of attempted murder you will be judged and penalized. In the meantime you can think about it. Transverto,” Mar called again and the woman was once again a pink bunny.

“Please put her with the others,” I asked the SPCA worker.

I led Mar from the building realizing I didn’t ask if she needed to talk to anyone else, but I think what the first person told us was enough to get the general feeling of what was going on.

“I wouldn’t have actually thrown her in with the males,” Mar said.

“I didn’t think so, but you did seem upset,” I said softly back.

“We worked together. I knew she never really liked me, but to try and kill someone, I don’t know, how could I have missed that level of hatred?”

“Look at what the country is going through, hell look at what the world is going through. Apparently this has been coming for a while, and none of us knew it was this bad. All we can do is try and stay alive and make this better.” I said back.

“I guess,” Mar said not really sure. I wish I could convince her, but I knew it would take something else for that so right now I was working on keeping her focused.

“We need to talk to Harper and everyone else. We may need to expand the town’s borders and if we do, that will cause problems as well.” I explained.

“Ok boss, lead the way,” she said smiling but I knew this wasn’t over.

Mar

I followed JP as we went in search of Harper. I was still coming to grips with being hated so much as a classification that people were willing to shoot me I just let him lead me along as I followed in a stupor.

I mean let’s face it, this was some fucked up shit. I guess I would never understand why people felt strong enough to hurt others because they felt they had to make the world better and for no other reason. I never did anything to hurt anyone and I was being shot at, this was some messed up shit.

I never even noticed when we did find Harper and JP and she were talking. I was still zoned when finally Harper looked at me. I could see the concern but she seemed to know not to ask. I appreciated that. I still wasn’t ready to try and explain what I was feeling.

I didn’t know how or why but we were in the make shift hospital and JP was leading me to the emergency room section. We shouldn’t be here, we weren’t sterile, what was he doing? Why was I going along with this?

“I see what you mean,” I heard my dad say but I didn’t remember seeing him till he spoke. “Mar, can you hear me?”

“Of course I can hear you,” I said snippily.

“Good, we need your help. We have a very wounded shifter here who has been poisoned with silver and is not healing. I’m not strong enough with magic to remove it all. I need you to focus and help us. Can you do that?”

I nodded.

JP led me to the table where three doctors were standing around it and it looked weird that they were all looking at me. I wasn’t a doctor. JP was holding my hand still and then he took my father’s in his other.

“Mar, open your senses and watch what I am doing.” Dad said and I followed along with JP’s magic and watched as the patient lit up like a Christmas tree with different colors in his system. I watched as artificial icicles from a Christmas tree were picked off one at a time from his body and dropped to the floor. At least that was what it looked like to me, but as soon as one left another seemed to stretch and take its place. How weird was this?

“Do you see why I am having a problem?” Dad asked.

I nodded. “I want you to try and remove any of the silver that you can. Do not remove anything else, just the silver, are you ready?”

I nodded again. Drawing some magic from JP I began removing the strands from the patient as carefully and as quickly as I could. For every two I removed one would take their place so I was making progress but the body was covered in these strands. Then the patient coughed and one of the doctors spoke.

“The silver infection is moving too quickly, we are going to lose him.” He said in a deadpan voice and just the way he said it with no feeling killed my heart. This shifter tried to help keep us all safe and I would be damned if I would give up without giving it my all.

I pulled power from JP now, not just a little, and I drew from my father too. I extended my senses and took power from all the witches near the patient. I heard gasps from the doctors but I didn’t care. I was saving this man and they could fucking deal with it.

I imagined a silver magnet and began running it over the body drawing the icicles of silver off the body and onto the magnet. I ran it over and over till they were all gone and then I released the power from everyone but JP and sat my imaginary magnet on the floor.

I fell back against JP but to his credit he caught me and held me firm. I looked at the patient and he seemed to be breathing better now and when I looked up at the doctors my father was smiling and the rest looked scared to death. Hmm, might be time to leave.

“I think we need to go dad,” I said feeling a little uncomfortable now.

“Thank you Mar, and thank you JP. We will take it from here.” Dad said controlling a smile.

JP led me away and that was for the best as I realized the other doctors were still staring at me. I was functioning now. I was aware not like before when I was in my fog and I squeezed JP’s hand. He smiled. Ass found a way to bring me back to myself. Oh he was so getting lucky later.
