Chapter 14

I feel like I can do this.

My week with Opular.

But when I return to my guest room after breaking down in front of the Imperator, I am unfortunately not alone to reflect and plan my next conversation.

Seye including the two other concubines are waiting for me in my space.

Seye sits in a corner on a chair looking pale and forlorn, looking out the window, unable to look at me as I enter.

The two black haired twin girls stare at me, with black paint across their bodies like tiger stripes.

I’ve just shut the door behind me, eager for some time alone to think clearly – and this is what I’m faced with.

Angry jealous females.

I say nothing – I wish to let them speak first as to why they’re in my room.

But they don’t say anything.

They watch me intensely, however, and they’re eyes are slit – anger intensifying with their paused breaths.

They don’t like me and they don’t want me to join their harem, but I didn’t need to explain to them I wasn’t interested.

As I waltz to the left, I wipe my eyes of anymore stray tears, as the two twin girls follow my every movement, matching it with killer intent.

“I wouldn’t try it,” I warn them, because I will kill them if they try to kill me.

My warning goes unheeded.

As they share a knowing look and pounce for me – the door slams open and they immediately freeze in the act and step right back from me, claws now hidden behind their backs.

“Girls, what are you doing in here?” Opular is shocked, blinking his confusion away as he sees what was clearly about to happen, “You’re not meant to kill her, you’re meant to make her feel welcome.”

“I’m not interested in being a partner like that, it’s fine,” I blurt, and I can’t say sex slave. I don’t want to think of Skye again right now.

“Then I respect your choice, get out!” Opular speaks to me and then his concubines. They rush toward him, but when Seye stands up to sneak out as well, Opular shoves her specifically back in and closes the door on all three of us. Seye keeps her eyes down and her mouth zipped shut as she stares at the floor and remains obedient. Opular continues, “Now both of you can hear what I have to say. If you stay to simply leech off my hospitality, you’ll be punished. I do require payment,” my ears wiggle as Opular changes tone to his generosity before, “I require respect paid back to me. Understood? Ryder,” The problem is, how reasonable he sounds, “Ryder,” Opular demands a response. I hold his eyes, my face is expressionless as he adds, “You will not leave this place at the end of the week a rouge enemy of mine. We will be allies. Do you understand me? You will follow Cat law and keep your emotions in check. We will sort our differences… on our own terms,” Opular says that last part more intimately. Though I have declined his offer to join his harem, I have a strong suspicion he isn’t giving up on making it a reality.

“Who is she?” I ask, referring to Seye.

“An escapee – who’s found solace under my guidance. A princess actually, not of my Pride… she’s a snake though… and I don’t trust snakes, especially the quiet ones,” Opular glares at Seye, who keeps her head down the whole conversation, “You don’t see anything for me –”

“I try,” Seye whispers, finally.

“If you don’t pay up soon, I’ll have you banished,” Opular warns her harshly, his voice dropping to a growl of displeasure, “You promised me visions.”

“They stopped when I escaped my mother, I can’t control them,” Seye finally looks up, “Please, I’m telling the truth –”

“I know you are, but you’re being useless to a very impatient man, I don’t care how well you fuck,” Opular turns to leave in an angry stride, but before he goes I quickly make an announcement.

“Wait. Imperator? I changed my mind, I want to be useful. I’ll join your harem. Fuck it. Perhaps you can guide me to a… purpose,” I speak cold but true, I want to give him what he wants to see his face when I cave in.

Opular slowly turns from the door to face me, while Seye is also staring at me, as the corner of my eye, she is shocked by my submission.

The Imperator is suspicious and intrigued at the same time.

“…well…” Opular thinks deeply, “…that wasn’t so hard, was it…” his eyes flicker and he’s deeply reflecting as he turns once more, murmuring, “Tonight we’ll have some fun – clean yourselves up in the mean time. Wash your hair, I like it wet.”

Opular exits and shuts the door gently.

Seye breathes a ragged breath and asks me, “Why did you give into him?”

I have my reasons.

“Who are you Seye?” I ask, turning to her and asking it directly.

“My mother is Hydra Nightly – I’m her only daughter,” Seye explains, “…I’ve been with Opular for a week now. I’m here for the same reason you are,” Does she even know why I’m here? she whispers it, “I lied to him. I didn’t run from home and I’m not scared of my mother… and I’m not scared of him either,” her demeanour changes, more cheeky, “Although it would help my cause if we worked together.”

“To do what,” I ask it quietly, not sure where she’ll take this.

“Obviously… to kill him,” Oh, “Opular is turned on by dangerous women. We could form an alliance?” Seye watches me carefully.

“And do what,” I repeat myself, wanting her to elaborate.

“Seduce and destroy,” Seye’s eyes flicker, “Tonight.”

“But why do you want to kill him?”

“He tried to assassinate my mother, the Hydra – that involves massive consequence, my mother is a thousand years old, she never dies, she was the first to colonise Genesis, to understand Genesis. I’m avenging her. You do not harm the Hydra,” Seye is furious, “I’m here to kill him, same reason as you.”

I hear the conviction in her tone... and I believe her.

“You’re not a concubine at all, are you,” I say, feeling more confident about this plan.

“No, but… I’m born to be a lone predator and an efficient killer,” Seye replies, honest, “…however, I know how to seduce just as well as I know how to kill…”

“We have the same goal. I’ll help you… and we’ll be allies,” I whisper the word, testing it out.

Of course, I don’t deny her.

This was my first friend on the planet.

An ally, in someone with similar circumstances.

We were both in powerful positions, and had a very straight forward vendetta.

Take down the Imperator.

Step one was simple – we had to fuck him, together.

The rest would be blood and silence.
