We had coffee together and told the more detailed story to everyone there, Hughes wanted to induct Jack back into Beta, but we were still celebrating just being back, a guard stormed into the room.

“Alpha, Beta, Boss, Ladies.” He gave a small bow before continuing. “Alpha Matt of the East Pack is at the gates and would like to speak with you, but Beta Eastwood precisely.”

“Sure Ravi, let him in.” Jack said as he got up a bit restlessly.

“Honey, are you okay with this?” I said also getting up and holding Jack by the shoulders.

“I don’t know, but I need to tell him the truth, I have no interest in his pack.” Jack said holding my hand, and pointing towards the door with his head. “Let’s go with me outside to welcome you.”

I just waved and walked towards him, we went outside and in two minutes an old van parked a little ahead of us. Matt got out and slammed the car door, he came towards us with long, strong and determined steps, he had anger in his eyes when he shouted.

“I can’t believe you went behind my back to steal my Pack. I helped you Jack, I told you the story, Ben gave you the data because we thought you were representing the Council, but it was all a dirty plan to get me out of power. ”

Matt spat out the words and his eyes got bright as he got excited, his wolf came to the surface, and he got closer.

Jack pulled me around the waist and positioned me behind him as he made his way towards Matt, I thought he was going to shift but he simply grabbed Matt by the shoulders holding him in place.

“Calm down my friend, I have no interest in your Pack, this is just a misunderstanding. I just wanted to get out of exile, let me explain.”

Matt was startled by Jack’s speech, and simply stopped. In the meantime Anna got out of the van as well and stood behind Matt.

“I know we lied, we are not Council officers and that was very wrong, we shouldn’t have done that, but we had to. I was exiled, with no hope, I just knew that my family came from your Pack. We needed to know if my grandfather was framed, and you helped us a lot. I can’t thank you for your help, I will be forever grateful for that, thanks to you I was able to return home. But for that we need to ask the Council for a formal investigation to release me from exile, and when they determined that Joseph was framed, they decided to give me his Pack as right. But I don’t want to, I just want to go back to my Beta post here. Don’t worry.

Jack’s words were firm, true, and his tone made Matt completely calm down. Gradually Jack took his hands off Matt’s shoulders and his eyes returned to normal.

“Sorry Jack, I got the announcement and freaked out, I… I’m sorry.”

“It’s okay Matt, I don’t ever want to get in the way of your leadership, I know you’re doing a good job in the East Pack, I don’t want to take that away from you ever.”

“I’m relieved Jack, just the good job part I’m not so sure about, we’re going through a financial crisis in the East.”

“Seriously Matt, why?”

“The Pack is not doing well, we’ve been without a Beta for over a year, and we haven’t found anyone for the post. The port that was our biggest income was built for transport, but we use it for fishing, not all boats can dock there, this has been accumulating over the years and is exploding now. The old boats can’t stop there, and without their income we can’t buy new ones.”

Matt looked sad about it, like an outburst.

“For transport? So we could dock freight ships there?”

“Yes, that’s what the docks are for, Alfred made them. Why?”

“Our biggest cost here at the timber company is transport over long distances, your Pack is next door to ours, we could put together a business strategy to use your port. And transport the wood by sea.” I said as the idea formed in my head.

“That’s great honey, that would be a great idea.” Jack told me putting his hand on my waist, pulling me close to him and placing a kiss on my cheek.

“Maybe it was the Goddess…” Matt said thinking aloud and looking up, he turned to Anna saying. “Honey, what if it was the Goddess who put Jack in our path? For him to take over as Alpha now, save our people... It could even unite the two Packs, we are neighbors, our town is small but hardworking. We could still be the ones Betas. Isn’t that Jack?”

The idea that Matt was forming in his head made a spark inside me that I couldn’t quite explain, but it made perfect sense. Jack having right to the East Pack, he could join ours, a port would be quite an addition to the logging company, and we could even make changes to the docks for the families that still wanted to fish. Jack and I would be Alphas soon, it all made sense. But it would be a gigantic and delicate pending, it was not a decision to be made like that. We needed to talk a lot and decide a lot of things, especially with Hughes. but it would be something simply amazing, my brain was spinning but a snap made me take a deep breath.

“What’s up Luna?” Jack asked.

“Your last name."

“What?”

“Eastwood... The union of the two packs.” I said pausing at the last sentence, it was like everything clicked into place in my brain all of a sudden.

“By the Goddess”. Matt said what we were all thinking.
