Iris Hendrix

My leg was burning and I could barely breathe, my body ached everywhere and with great difficulty, I opened my swollen eye to see that I was in a dingy old basement, which only had a wooden chair that was pushed to the far corner and an old light bulb that was continuously flicking.

“Oh, you are awake!”

That sinister voice, it must be Alan.

I lifted my head and there he stood near the door wearing a black fitted shirt and jeans and I can see the there was a scar mark that was running through his left eyebrow and stops right above his upper lip, and I know that was the scar from the knife that I ran down his once beautiful face.

“Let me go, you bastard!” I yelled and tried pulling my hands from the metal chains, but all it did was cause me more harm.

“Uh-huh, I didn’t kidnap you to just let you go, Iris. You know how much I loved you, but the day you fooled me, that is the day I took an oath for myself.” He walked towards me, and he stood just a foot away from me and, bend down so that we were at eye level. “That I will give you the most painful death ever imaginable.” Every word that he spoke sent a wave of pain and shock throughout my body, and he stood up before pulling something shiny from his back pocket.

“Do you know darling, the day that you left me to my death, it was like, someone was running a poisoned knife, agonizing slow through my wound.” He took a few steps away from me and pulled a small glass vial, and removed its cap before spilling the liquid all over the blade. “And I want you to feel how I felt that day,” he whispered and slowly approached me.

“Alan, please let me go, I am sorry.” I started begging him and tried wiggling my way out from the rope, but the more I moved, I felt like the rope was getting tighter. Once he was in front of me, he raised the blade to my face and slowly ran it down from my cheek to my neck, and I can feel that he made sure to cut only the top layer of my skin. The cut started to burn, and slowly I felt the poison seep right into my cut, the burning sensation just increased ten times, and I couldn't hold back my screams anymore, so I screamed. Screamed for him to let me go or end this pain forever.

I kicked and thrashed, and I felt like my legs were tangled too, and it became difficult to breathe.

“Iris, wake up!”

I heard multiple voices, and suddenly the object that was constricting my movement was taken off, and I felt a stinking sensation on my right cheek, this was not like the burning of the poison, but it felt like someone has slapped me, which made me abruptly open my eyes and I stared at three pairs of eyes that are looking at me with fright and shock.

“What the heck is wrong with you, Iris?” My brother was the first to break the silence, and he looked both worried and pissed, when I looked at Ada, I saw that she was holding my blanket.

“Who is this Alan guy that you were screaming about in your sleep?” Ada questioned, and I saw that Beatrice was standing near the doorway, looking scared, which broke my heart.

My niece is scared of me. What have you done, Iris?

“I…uh…um, I watched a ghost movie last night since I couldn’t go to sleep, and I think that is where I got the nightmare from.” I lied, and Cole shook his head, but now his face looked relaxed, and he took a seat on the chair that was in front of my bed. While Ada’s face was scrunched up in confusion, and I know that she is debating whether to believe me or not, in the end, she sighed before going towards the door and picking Beatrice up.

“I don’t know how you were not tired after watching three movies in a row, but next time, don’t do something stupid like this,” Ada said before leaving the room.

“I don’t know what to say, Iris.” Cole shook his head. “You do know that you get extremely spooked up when you watch horror movies, right? Then why did you even watch it?” Cole said, and there was a glint in his eyes that told me that he was just messing around.

“I thought, I have gotten rid of that phobia, but I guess I still have it,” I said, shrugging my shoulders, and I got up from the bed and made my way to the bathroom.

“Well, it's good that you still have that phobia because I can make you pee in your pants on Halloween,” Cole said and I abruptly turned around and gave him my best death stare before banging the bathroom door closed, and I heard him laugh, and finally I heard my room door close.

Once the entire place was quiet again, I slid down the bathroom door and pulled my knees towards my chest.

That dream felt so real, and my mind is telling me that it was just a nightmare while my heart is saying that this is one of my visions. But I have never had a vision of my future.

So is this a dream or a vision?
