A Millionaire, His Suit, And Poor Me
A Millionaire, His Suit And Poor Me Chapter 8

“Did you just make a joke?" I feigned astonishment. He rolled his eyes and picked up the menu. I did the same, pretendin to be interested in the choice of the order, while silence settled around the table and I tried not to look at the handsome man sitting next to me. The waitress arrived and I sighed with relief. “What do you want to order?” asked Henris, frightened. He leaned over the table and took the menu from my hands. “Ym going to have a prime rib, on time. She'll have the chicken alfredo. We also want bread. And another bottle of this wine," he said firmly. The waitress quickly wrote down the order and left, while I stared at him. “What?” He asked coldly. I put my head down and played with the tablecloth. “I could have ordered for myself, you know" “Yes, you could have" He replied by throwing me a smirk. He then adjusted the collar of his shirt. “Tell me about yourself, Noras." “Um, I'm from North Carolina... I graduated from NYU and now I'm an intern at Vogue. I hope they will hire me by the end the year.” “Interesting. Are you a virgin?” I choked on my wine and coughed as Henris stared at me coldly. “Q-What?” I stuttered. He tilted his head to the side, moving his chair so as to sit closer to me. I felt his knee against mine. He got closer. “I think you heard me right the first time." “I don't think it's any of your business, Mr. Steve.” I answered nervously. He gave me a smirk and, with two fingers, lifted n chin, forcing me to look into his eyes. He was staring at me intently. “Answer me.” He ordered in a whisper. “No. Steve seemed amused as he released his grip on my chin. “I will take this as an answer to my question and not as an act disobedience towards me, Noras,” he commented. Then he smiled at me. “Do you want more wine?” I nodded absently. He poured me another glass, which I immediately began to drink. I would need seven more bottles if wanted to arrive alive at the end of the appointment and not be reduced to a pile of tears on the floor. “Is it okay?” He asked, regarding the wine. “Yes,” I replied, taking another sip. That's really good. Better than any wine I've ever had. And I had a lot of them, because Jace and I have Wine Wednesdays, and we watch movies. But I always buy cheap wine because I don't get paid well. So that's really good. Really good” “You're flouting. Are you nervous, Noras?” I shrugged my shoulders, lowered my head and looked at the white tablecloth. “Your mood changes very quickly and I never know what to expect.” I answered honestly, playing with the stem of my glass. “I think you're cute when you're nervous.” “Did 1 just hear the word “pretty’ come out of your mouth?” I laughed. I gritted my teeth and tried to hide my laughter, bu couldn't. A small smile tried to make its way to his lips but he quickly hid it. “I can say all the words I want." He insisted. I could have sworn there was a spark of amusement in her eyes. “l know,” I smiled. “It's just that you... and “pretty’. you're not really on the same page, you know?” He shakes his head slowly, all traces of amusement gone. No, I don't know, Noras. They take too long with orders. Where’ the waitress?” She blew. His eyes searched the room until he found the waitress talking to other customers. He fixed her back and she slowly raise her head, as if she could feel his gaze. As soon as she saw him, Steve motioned for her to approach with his fingers. The poor girl looked frustrated as she placed a lock of hair behind her ear. “How can I help you, Mr. Steve?” “You are taking too long to carry out our orders!” He said. The waitress nodded, muttering something incoherent under h breath as she left. “You scared him." I said it was boring. She turned to me, as if she only now noticed my presence, and pulled her chair eve closer. I felt his cold hand rest on my knee, without moving. I shivered. “I frighten you too, and yet you are here dining with me.” He observed slowly. I didn't even try to take his hand off. In aw: it was a reassuring gesture. I felt safe with him, even though he was scary himself, I wasn't afraid of what he could do to n “Not that I had any other choices.” I sighed. Steve tilted his head to the side, smiling slightly at me, the cold expression disappearing from his face for a few seconds. “You didn't leave, though, when you could have. Why?" “You asked me to stay," I replied softly. “And you were, like, nice for what? Wait a minute? And you're really hot, then. p my hand over my mouth and immediately felt myself blushing. Steve burst into a deep laugh, removing his hand from my knee. Before he could answer, two steaming plates were served to us by the waitress. “Ym really sorry for the wait, Mr. Steve." He said nervously. He gave her a fake smile and she left quickly. My plate looked delicious. I immediately started eating, wrapping the noodles around my fork and taking a big bite. The creamy sauce was delicious, the chicken cooked perfectly. It was divine. while drinking a sip of wine, I looked up and saw that Henris was watching me intently. His steak hadn't even been touched. I swallowed the bite quickly. “Aren't you eating?” “Is yours good?” He asked deeply. I nodded in silence. “Are you sure? If it's not good, I can send it back.” “Mr. Steve, this is very good." I answered. “Noras,” he said, annoyed. I was surprised by his tone. If it's not good enough, I'll send it back. Don't lie to me. Is it perfec “It's delicious, I promise you." I insisted. “It's, like, really, really good.” He sighed with relief as he nodded and turned his attention back to his plate. I watched him meticulously cut each piece the steak into small cubes. Slowly, with his fork, he lifts one towards his mouth and chews it with concentration. “Is yours good?” I asked nervously. “I will make it stick” He replied. The rest of the meal passed in silence, with the occasional clatter of knives and forks. He kept his knee attached to mine the whole time. The waitress returned with a nervous look on her face. “Do you still have room for dessert?” She smiled, trying to seem calm, but failing miserably. I give him a compassionate look. “No. The bill, please."Henris ordered. She handed him the small black pouch, he opened it and placed a black credit card it, without even glancing at the price and before I could protest. “I could have paid my own." I complained. “No, you couldn't have.” He replied. He immediately stood up, shoulders square, and put a $50 bill on the table. “Come or I accepted the offered hand without thinking. He took mine firmly, leading me toward the restaurant exit. He walked with his head held high, as if he could feel the customers’ gaze on us. Men stared at him because of the sense of power he exuded, even in the way he held himself. Women stared at his long legs, gray suit and incredible good looks. He pulled me closer and, hesitating, I approached his side. His arm held my wai firmly. The car lights blinded me once more as he opened it, helped me to my feet and closed the door for me. This time, I drove more carefully. Classical music was blasting from the speakers. He drummed his fingers on the steering wheel. I turned, looking at his profile. He ran his tongue over his bottom lip, before biting it with his teeth, concentrating. He turned up his little nose before raising his hand, scratching it, then running it through his hair. The young corporate CEO looked like a normal person for a moment. I was so distracted by him that I paid no attention to where we were going. I looked out the window, confused. “Where ar we going?” “My house." He answered without interest. I crossed my arms. “No, absolutely not. Take me home, Mr. Steve. I'm not going to sleep with you. We've only been out once.’ He had an amused expression on his face as he turned the wheel, entering a well-lit New York street. I have a few comments to make in response to your reference, Noras. First, call me Henris. Second, who said anything about getting laid? Third, you implied we'd go out one last time and f**k." I glared at him as we entered a garage, choosing not to answer. A man in a black suit came running out, opening the door for Henris, who handed him the keys and some notes. He walked over to me, helping me down while the valet got into th RS. “Don't look at her” said Henris suddenly in an annoyed tone, placing a hand on the roof of the car and lowering his head His shoulders tensed. The valet paled, shaking his head in fright. I put my hand on his shoulder, silently pleading with him. Steve handed him more bills and slammed the door with a soft “Thank you’. I looked at him fearfully. “What?” He said, annoyed. “I don't want him looking at you like that." He led me to an elevator and I stopped immediately. I'd be in a closed place, for a while, alone with Henris. In a closed place. With Henris. Did I tell you it was closed? And that 'd be with Henris Steve, part businessman, part s*x god? He looked at me, turning his head only with an icy expression, tugging at my hand impatiently. I sighed and followed him knowing I had no other choice. He pressed the button for the top floor. “Why are we going to your place?” I asked nervous In the small space, I could smell his shampoo and the scent of his cologne all around me. “To keep the fun going, Noras." He replied sarcastically as the elevator closed. “Who said I was having fun?” 1 replied curtly. He gritted his teeth and turned to me. I knew immediately I'd said the wrong thing. He took a step in my direction, pinning me against the elevator wall, glaring at me. His eyes were darker. He reached out a hand, resting it on the wall, over my shoulder. When he spoke, his voice was deep and husky. “The things I'd do to you if there weren't security cameras in the elevator.” I searched his eyes for traces of emotion. “Is that a threat?” He bent down, I felt his breath on my jaw, his curls caressed my cheek. I leaned my head against the wall and closed my eyes, trying to calm the pounding of my heart. Suddenly, he bit me on the neck. Surprised, I opened my eyes. He lifted th edge and stared at me. “No, Noras,” he said softly. “It's a promise.” “No, you couldn't have.” He replied.
