Sarah Williams- POV 

“I…feel like I have seen that man somewhere, Zachary. I feel like he is the father that left me all those years back.” I choked out, my eyes were blurry, and tears were continuously flowing down my cheek. Zachary was stunned for a few minutes before he pulled me into a hug, making me sit on his lap. “I don’t think it is your father, Sarah. I mean, if it was your father. He would never want to kill…” Zachary stopped midway, and I know that he blurted out what he got in that letter. I pulled away from him and looked him in the eye. I know that there is no point in hiding that I already know about the letter, so I took a deep breath. 

“Zach, I…um….the other day when I was at your house.” I started, and Zach’s eyes frowned in confusion. 

“The night I caught you sneaking out from my house through the main door?” he asked me, but there was an air of mocking sarcasm in it which made my lips slightly lift in the corner, and a light blush formed on my cheek. 

“Yes, actually, I came to see what was in that letter that you found,” I said and waited till he yells at me or starts lecturing how it is a bad habit to invade someone’s privacy, but instead, the corner of his lips slowly lifted into a smirk and the arms around my waist tightened, this behavior greatly confused

Do you think I would have been that careless to keep that letter on the bookshelf for everyone to easily find?” he asked me in a whisper, his hot breath momentarily made my eyes close, but I fought against the dizzy spell that I was involuntarily being pushed into. 

“So, you kept it there for me to find?” I asked him, and he nodded his head. 

“I saw you in the forest when I was investing that murder, and I know that you must have seen the letter too.” 

“But, how do you know that I would come to find that letter?” I asked him. 

“I have been keeping an eye on you from the first time you stepped into my pack, and I have perceived you to be curious and ready to help anyone,” he said. “I wanted you to read that letter and make sure to not get yourself into trouble, but you did the complete opposite,” he said, his plum lips inched closer to mine, and placed a gentle kiss on my cheek before he moved towards the corner of my lips. When our lips finally met, it was like I was taken into a parallel universe. Nothing was in my mind except for the feel of his lush plum lips that were urging me to do sinful acts. 

Zach’s hand slowly went under my top and started to rub gentle circles on my lower spine while I was getting increasingly aroused by his simple actions. We were both getting breathless, and Zach soon broke the kiss and slowly traveled his way down, placing random kisses, but when he

placed a kiss where my shoulder meets my neck, that is when a memory rushed into my brain. This was the same way he kissed me the other night, and one thing led to another, and the next thing I know was waking up in his bed naked. But that was not what I was bothered about, instead, the words that he spoke to me the other day were still fresh in my mind while my brain was warning me to stop this right now because I will only get hurt in the end. 

“Zach, please,” I mumbled and pushed him away from me and quickly got up from his lap. 

“What happened, Sarah?” he asked me with a look of shock on his face while I was having an internal battle with my mind and heart. 

“I…I don’t want to get hurt again, Zach. I know that you do not have any feelings toward me, and I don’t want to end up being your booty call whenever you feel like it.” I choked out the words while I was slowly walking back to the door. 

“Sarah, if it was about the other day, then…” 

“Zach, I don’t know what made you change overnight. You have been acting weird since this morning, and I am not ready to face more insults. Let’s just maintain our relationship as friends, but I don’t think I still acknowledge you as my mate after everything that you have done.” I said, and he got up from the sofa and walked towards me but stopped a few feet away from me. We just stared into each other’s eyes without saying a word. The pain was evident in his eyes, but even if I give him a chance, I don’t think I will be able to accept him wholeheartedly. I will always have this fear lingering in the back, afraid that he might just leave me one day, just like someone else I loved.

I turned around and left the room to my cabin, and after idly sitting on my chair for some time, I resumed my work. I will never be able to emotionally separate myself from Zachary, but I know that I will not be able to completely trust Zachary again till he proves himself to me.
