Chapter 27
Out of the corner of his eyes, Damien saw Anastasia’s lip twitch before she shoved some pasta into her mouth. Damien’s. mouth opened wide as he wondered how he should respond to Alan. Luckily, Wynne came to his rescue.
“Of course, you are not little,” Wynne winked at Alan. The boy went back to eating, shoveling it into his small mouth and letting the oil stam his lips and roll down his chin. Damien chuckled softly.
“This pasta is da-”
*Mr. Wright,” Wynne gasped.
Again, Damien looked at Ana and she was suppressing a grin against her glass of water She hadn’t even looked at Damien. Alan wasn’t paying attention to him or anyone else for that matter, but Damien’s heart still ached with rejection.
“Sorry.” Damien grumbled. “I meant to say that the food here is amazing.” For the rest of lunch. Damien kept his mouth. shut. After everyone had finished, James got up and placed a soft kiss on Wynne’s forehead before he went to pay with the corporate card. Wynne looked up and smiled at him.
It was just a simple gesture that said so much about their relationship.
Damien decided he wanted to help James out and stood up, following him out of the room.
“You’re doing great, Mr. Wright,” he said as the man at the billing counter fumbled to make their bill.
“I don’t think so… Anastasia won’t even look at me.”
James nodded. “She doesn’t want to upset you. She is here because it is her job but I think she is worried that she will set you
off in front of Alan.”
“What is that supposed to mean?” Damien questioned. Did everyone think he was going to fight Anastasia in front of Alan?
James raised a brow at him. He didn’t have to say anything. Damien got the picture perfectly.
“Anastasia is trying to let you do this at your own pace.”
“Oh, is that what she is doing?” Damien snapped.
James looked at him before handing the corporate card over. Without even opening his mouth, James made his point. It was annoying.
“That is what she is trying to do. Despite what is going on between the two of you right now, Anastasia is a kind and responsible person, Mr. Wright.”
Damien had never doubted that Anastasia was a kind or responsible person underneath it all. Yes, he had questioned her motives, but she had always been sweet and innocent, well at least, until he got his way with her.
Could she have changed so much as a person? For the last few weeks he had wanted nothing more than to hate her. He was confused because there was still a part of him that wanted to hug her and say how sorry he was. And although it was buried under layers of conflicting emotions, he wanted to go back in time and set things right with her.
Damien wanted to make all the hurt he had caused Anastasia to go away and show her what her first time should have really been like.
“I am trying to come to terms with this. I really am.”
“I know you are, boss. And Anastasia understands that. Both of you need to be patient with each other and figure it out.”

Damien grabbed the corporate card from James and placed his personal card on the counter. He then went back into the private room and sat down in front of Alan. When Ana placed a plate in front of everyone, Alan’s face lit up.
Chapter 27
“This is phenomenal Wynne moaned after she took a bite of the dessert
Damien whipped his head up and looked at her
“You made this?
Anastasia just nodded without lifting her head. Damien took a forkful of the desert and his eyes rolled back at how good it tasted For the next few minutes, the room was filled with compliments. It was Ana who startled him out of his desert coma. She stood up and cleaned the plate in front of Alan.
“I will go clean Alan up before we leave. Why don’t you all finish the rest?” She looked at everyone before addressing Alan. “Come on, baby, we need to go to the bathroom.”
“I can do it myself!” Alan chimed before hopping down from the chair. He ran ahead of her as if he was in a race. Damien watched them as they left.
Damen continued to sit at the table after everyone had left. He was finishing his drink and trying not to think about everything that was happening. He must have been in his own world because he didn’t realize he had company. A tiny little hand rested on his forearm. Damien jumped and saw Alan looking at him curiously.
“What are you doing?” he asked.
“I don’t know…” Damien answered honestly. “Thinking.”
Damien looked around to see why Alan was there by himself and saw Anastasia standing at the doorway. She was watching the father and son, but there was no apparent emotion on her face.
“Do you want to see what I can do?” Alan asked, bringing Damien’s attention back to him.
“What can you do?” Damien smiled softly.
It was strange seeing and speaking to his son. Damien didn’t know what to do around kids. He had never thought much about them other than the fact he didn’t want them. And here he was, Damien’s very own flesh and blood, asking him questions and looking at him like there was something wrong with him.
Alan bit his lip and furrowed his brow. Damien almost choked on his laughter. As much as the kid looked like him, his expressions were just like Anastasia’s.
“You hafta come with me, boss,” he said, grabbing Damien’s hand and trying to pull him into a standing position. Damien hesitated for a second before he stood up and followed the child. Alan didn’t let his hand go, and Damien could feel his tiny palm wrapping around his second and third fingers.
“Where are we going?”
“To the no–no.”
“The piano?” Damien said immediately. He had called the instrument the same thing as a child. He had particularly liked banging on the keys whenever he found a piano to sit in front of.
They walked past Anastasia. She kept her head down, her arms folded across her chest. Her teeth were biting down on her bottom lip.
“Are you coming, Momma?”
