Chapter 42
Ana brushed past Damien and walked into the club. Damien watched her ass and flashed her a smile when she turned around and caught him ogling.
James and Wynne met them inside the club. The business connections were already present, Nathan, one of Damien’s friends extended his hand and shook Ana’s. Then, he leaned down to kiss her palm. Nathan’s eyes darted between Ana and
Damien.
Damien was standing right behind her, probably closer than he should have been, but at the moment he didn’t care what people thought. He ghosted his hand to the small of her back as she slid into the seat. Then, Damien took the seat beside
her.
After dinner, their group sat back and enjoyed their drinks. The music thumped and there was a decent–sized crowd on the dance floor. Ana had to hold the back of Damien’s shirt as they waded their way through the crowd and back to the washroom.
“What is up between Anastasia and you?” Nathan asked him, taking a sip of his drink.
“What do you mean?” Damien countered.
“I haven’t seen you around for a few years, but recently rumor has it that you two have a kid together.”
Damien arched a brow. “So?”
“I don’t know. I was simply curious. So many rumors spread around the business circle and it is hard to know what is true. and what is not.”
Damien sighed. “Just spit it out. What do you want to know?”
“Are you and Anastasia together?”

“It depends on why you are asking. If you are asking simply because you are curious, I am not inclined to tell you anything. But if you are asking because you are romantically interested in Ana, then I am going to dare you to try.”
Nathan held his hands up. “Message received. No need to be so aggressive.”
Damien shook his head. He needed some air. He walked out of the back exit to get some cool air. He was there for a few minutes before he heard the clicking of heels against the pavement. Damien looked up and saw a woman headed straight in his direction.
“Hi,” she smiled.
Damien ignored her.
“I’m available, handsome, the woman purred.
“And I am going back inside to my girl,” Damien replied.
He went to the door but the woman stopped him. “Come on, big guy. You look like you need to relieve some stress.”
“No thank you,” Damien countered and shrugged her off. He swatted away her hands and tried to pull away, but the woman didn’t budge. “Look, I am not interested.”
A bright light flashed and Damien looked in that direction and saw a police officer looking suspiciously at the exchange.
“I am being punked, aren’t I?” Damien asked as he was patted down. He was pushed against the brick wall and then a cold metal snapped around his wrist.
-You are under arrest. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.”

“What are you arresting me for?” Damien asked calmly. “I would like to call my attorney.”
Sure. Solicitation.”
Damien groaned. “I need to make a call. I have people in the bar. I need to tell them what is going on.”
“You’ll get your phone call once we get to the station,” the officer growled. Damien looked at the man carefully and realized that he couldn’t even wriggle out of the situation with his name alone. He hadn’t even looked at the woman!
The only thing Damien could think about was what would happen if Ana found out. He felt a knot in his stomach when he thought Ana would take Alan away from him because of this false charge.
The officer opened the door and pulled Damien out. He led Damien by the elbow into the station. A few of the officers. looked at him curiously as they entered, but Damien ignored them. The officer sat down in a chair and handed Damien the phone.
“One call. You don’t even have an ID on you. Who is it going to be?”
Damien ran through the list of numbers he actually remembered. Not even his lawyer. He only remembered his parents” numbers. He could call Dianna but she would probably scold him, so he settled on Carl..
When the call went through, it went straight to voicemail.
“Hey, dad. It’s me, Damien. I need you to come down to the police station and contact my lawyer. I was arrested.” Damien looked up at the officer, who looked like he was having too much fun having a power trip.
“Come on,” he said, grabbing Damien’s hand. Damien didn’t want to be the guy who told people who he was. So he kept silent. He was placed in a cell alone. He could smell the alcohol on the other people locked up in the cells next to him and he sighed. This was a new experience.
Damien couldn’t really sleep, so he dozed over the next couple of hours. The drunk guy in the cell next to him kept puking. A little while later, Damien heard a distinctly feminine voice coming from the front of the station.
‘Shit, Damien cursed.

She was grumbling and her voice was getting closer and closer.
“I can’t believe this.”
Damien hung his head in shame. He was just about to answer when he realized Ana wasn’t facing him. She was facing the
officer.
“Officer, you cannot arrest someone without proof.” Ana fought on his behalf. “I have already called the lawyer and you will be hearing from them soon. Let Mr. Wright out right now.”
After some more words were said, he was finally let out.
“Damien, I am so sorry…
Damien frowned. What was Ana apologizing for?
“Come on,” Ana said, stretching her hand out for him to take. Damien looked at it in confusion. Ana didn’t waste time grabbing his hand. “Officer, you will hear from me later,” she warned as she took all of Damien’s belongings.
Damien looked at the clock. It was early in the morning.
“Where is Alan?”
“Mr. Wright called me about an hour ago and told me that you had been arrested. I checked out the premises and came to pick you up. Alan is sleeping.”

“Do you know why I was arrested?” Damien asked nervously as he climbed into her car.
