Chapter 45 

The next morning. Ana went to the Wright Group for some groundwork. An hour into work, Ana felt the need for some coffee and went into the pantry. With so many people working in the company, there always seemed to be a fresh pot of coffee brewing. Someone or the other needed the coffee to wake up. 

Ana poured herself a cup, spent ten minutes drinking it, and then put the mug in the dishwasher. 

“Back to work.” Ana sighed to herself. 

As she headed out of the pantry, she turned the corner and ran into something hard. Instinctively, her hands flew up in front of her. She started to fall backward, but an arm flew around her waist, yanking her forward once again. 

“Oh shit, Damien said hoarsely. 

Ana’s eyes were glued to his chest, where her hands were resting. The first button was undone and Ana could see tiny droplets of water rolling down. She hadn’t looked up yet, so she couldn’t be sure if he had just washed his face or not. 

She followed one of the drips as it slowly made its way down his collar before disappearing into the shirt. 

“Oh,” she choked, unable to speak. 

“Ana?” Damien said, grabbing her attention from the wet spot on his shirt. 

She looked up at him, a little shocked. He smirked at her like he had caught her ogling him. Which he definitely had. 

He hadn’t let go of her and her hands were still on his chest. She felt something against her palm and looked down to see the silhouette of a bar that was definitely piercing his nipple. She instinctively flicked it and Damien grunted. 

Ana felt her heartbeat increase at the sound. She returned her attention to his face, only to find that his eyes were closed and his teeth gritting. He looked so sexy that she couldn’t take her eyes off him. She was overcome by a wave of pure lust. She flicked her thumb again and this time, watched as he sucked in a shaky breath. 

“Ana, please… don’t do that.” 

“I’m sorry.” 

He opened his eyes and Ana gasped. His pupils were dilated and he looked downright ravenous. “Don’t be sorry. It just has. an effect on me. 

“Oh… okay.” 

He didn’t let her go immediately, but his grip loosened enough for her to take a step back. Ana dropped her hand from his chest, her eyes lingering on the spot where the piercing was longer than it should have been. 

She knew he didn’t have it the last time she had seen him shirtless. 

He cleared his throat and Ana looked away. She felt her cheeks heat with embarrassment. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Damien adjust the length in his pant. 

All from the flick of a thumb. Ana suddenly had no interest in going back to work. 

“Is Alan doing well this morning?” Damien asked, his voice still ragged. 

Ana snapped out of her haze to answer his question. “Oh, he skipped his way to playschool. While I came to work so that we could pay rent.” 

Damien bit his lip. “You know… you don’t have to.” 

“I like working.” Ana cut him off, knowing what he was going to say. Damien nodded and walked over to the pantry to get himself a snack. Ana watched with rapt fascination as he bit into his food and how his adam’s apple bobbed with each

swallow. They made small conversation, but Ana could barely make a coherent thought just looking at him. 

“Anastasia?” someone called. “Oh, I didn’t mean to interrupt! I didn’t know you were speaking to Damien,” the employee 

said. 

Damien pushed off the counter as the employee scurried away. “Sorry.” 

“Me too.” Ana whispered. 

“What are you apologizing for?” 

“I don’t know…” 

Damien chuckled. “He slipped up there…. calling me Damien. Maybe I should scold him for it.” 

“Maybe you should.” She kept quiet. 

“Can I ask you something?” Damien asked. When she motioned him to speak, he complied. “When are we going to tell 

him? 

Ana furrowed her brow, not understanding. 

“Tell Alan that I am his dad?” 

“Are you ready for that?” Ana questioned. The thought had crossed her mind, that she would tell Alan who his father was… But she wanted to wait until Damien was comfortable. 

“Yes.” 

Ana smiled. “If you are ready, we can tell him whenever you would like. You… you’re planning on staying?” She held her breath, waiting for his answer. She had no idea what would happen if she told Alan and then Damien decided to leave. 

“I am still undecided about business expansion for now, but I want to be in Alan’s life. He is going to play a huge part in my 

future… I want that.” 

Ana was comforted by those words. Still, she had no idea what Damien expected of Alan. He was still a child and the whole ordeal could confuse him. 

“He doesn’t understand what a dad is. The closest thing he had to a male role model was Mar- 

“I am his father. No one else,” Damien said bluntly.

Ana closed her eye and shook her head. “I know that. Marcus knows that. Don’t think that I tried to get Marcus to be Alan’s father. What I am saying is… Alan might be confused about what a dad is like… You are going to have to show him.”

“You are,” she comforted, brushing a hand over his forearm. “It is just time to add the title to it.” 

“Today?” Damien asked expectantly. 

“You’re that anxious?” Ana teased. 

“Yes,” Damien grinned. 

Ana nodded in understanding. “Today, then. But after I am done with work. Is that okay?” 

“Of course. As long as it is today. I don’t mind if it is in the middle of the night,” he said firmly. 

“We can’t be doing that, daddy. Alan needs his beauty sleep so that he doesn’t wake up cranky tomorrow.”
