Chapter 74 

“Are you serious right now?” Ana scoffed, “I have a few issues with dating a colleague, unlike you. And I am in a relationship.” 

Anastasia was furious that this woman could accuse her of anything. She was the one who had indulged in an office romance and now she was suspecting everyone else. 

“Does that matter? What happened, Anastasia? Didn’t you date someone from your last company? I hear he is the father of your child. What? He got tired of you and now you are trying to get even?” 

“Carmen” Liam shouted. “That’s enough. Go home. I will ask the Boss for leave for you.” 

“Like hell I am, I am not about to leave you with the little slut alone.” 

Liam jumped up and grabbed her arm. “Carmen, we broke up. You were the one who ruined our relationship. Secondly, you have no right to talk about a respectable colleague after what you have done. Go home and cool off. When you come back, do so with a better attitude because HR can fire you for 

the act you just pulled.” 

“Oh,” Carmen laughed darkly. “I would like to see them try, baby.” She forced a kiss on him before he could turn away. She walked out right after. Liam ran his hand over his face and Ana could hear how distressed he was. 

“I’m so sorry about that Anastasia,” he said. 

“What the hell is her problem?” Ana asked, completely floored by what had just happened. 

Liam shook his head, looking exhausted and miserable. “I fucked up big time.” 

“What’s going on here?” 

“Carmen has been working at the company for seven months now. When she started, she seemed like a sweet girl whom I could teach how to work in the office. She was a hard worker and wanted to prove herself. We went out for drinks one night and I ended up going home with her. I never intended on it, but it just happened.” 

Ana sighed because she was not surprised. She had sensed something amiss between those two for a while. 

“It wasn’t bad, at first… She would spend half the nights with me. I knew it could be a problem because I was her mentor when she joined the company. I could get into trouble but I figured that once I was assigned to a different project, we would stop working together and it would no longer 

matter” 

“But obviously things aren’t okay.” Ana prompted. 

“No, she started slacking at work and coming in late. I need to bring this up to HR, but I feel so guilty. I thought she would get a hint when I spoke to her, but instead, I found a box in her closet at work.” 

Ana wasn’t sure if she wanted to know what was in the box. Carmen seemed like a psycho. 

“It was photos of men in her bed. And those men were drugged or something. They had dates and rankings on the picture. I was so sick. I even found a few pictures of her with them.”

“Obviously, I confronted her. There were a few at the same time as I was in a relationship with her. She had the audacity to tell me that we never made it exclusive. I ended the relationship but when I tried telling her to stay away, she threatened me with a lawsuit and smear campaign.” 

“My god, what are you going to do?” Ana asked. 

“I don’t know WHAT I can do. I can’t report to HR. Once the project is done, I can move away. But that is a good three or four months away.” 

“What kind of crazy person takes pictures of men they’ve slept with while they are asleep?” Ana asked, completely disgusted. 

“I asked her that, too. She said something about insurance policies.” 

“What is what supposed to mean?” 

Liam shook his head. “I don’t really want to know. In any case, she is a complete nightmare and I am trying to ignore her. But it hasn’t been easy.”

“I really didn’t want to pull you into this mess, Anastasia. But… I am so sorry. You can tell HR immediately.” 

“Trust me, I have been at the receiving end of many harsh words in the past. Plus, she was just trying to vent her anger by insulting me. She doesn’t know me or my situation. Moreover, she doesn’t know who Alan’s father is, either.” 

Liam sighed in relief. “Thank you so much, Ana. And sorry. I didn’t mean to stare earlier. I just caught off guard.” 

“Look. We are adults. I like working with you. If there is a next time, you better look away. Not only do I not appreciate rowing eyes, but my boyfriend is the jealous type. I can see him walking in on that. I don’t think you will like how that ends. It would be far worse than anything Carmen can come up with,” she warned. 

It was a subtle way of telling him to stay away without embarrassing him. 

Chapter 74 

As much as Ana was trying not to let Carmen’s words get to her, they still put her in a bad mood. When she sat outside Alan’s school, she allowed the music to wash over her and calm herself. She waited for a while before Damien showed up too. 

Just in time, Alan came out with a bunch of kids. 

“Hi, Mommy. Hi Daddy!” he chirped. 

“How was school today?” 

“Good.” 

“What did you do?” 

“Ate lunch.” 

“Oh, yeah?” Damien asked, laughing. “What else?” 

After a flurry of words, Damien turned to look at Ana. “Please tell me he is actually learning something at school.” 

“I don’t know,” she answered flatly.. 

Damien frowned. “What’s the matter?” 

“Bad day,” she replied promptly. 

“What happened? Anything I can help you with?” 

Ana shook her head. “I don’t want to talk about it right now.” She knew she was being unreasonably bitchy and that it wasn’t Damien’s fault, so she reached over and grabbed his hands. She squeezed it as she spoke. “I’m sorry, I just want to forget about today.” 

Damien just nodded but kept a hold of her hand the entire way to his house.
