Chapter 73 

“I am not ready for this.” 

“Come on. Yes, you are.” 

“No, I’m not, Damien. I can’t do this. I thought I could, but I can’t.” She was on the verge of tears. 

“You’ll be fine. I promise.” 

Ana shook her head. 

“You did so much in preparation for this and you’re just going to back out?” 

“Yes, I’m backing out.” 

Damien shook his head incredulously. “Ana, you’re being ridiculous.” 

“I’m not! I just… don’t want to.” 

“Are you serious? Because we can’t wait any longer. You either let me help you and we do this, or I have to go.” 

And he was right. Ana couldn’t put it off any longer. It was time to get it over with no matter how anxious she was. She opened the door and let Damien 

1. in. 

“Thank you,” Damien sighed. “Where is Alan?” 

“He’s probably trying to stuff his favorite police car into his bag again. I’ve already taken it out twice this morning” 

“Alan! Come on!” Damien shouted before turning to her. “This is good for him, I swear. And good for you.” 

“He’s going to school Damien,” she cried. “My baby is too young to be going to school.” 

“He’s not too young. He’s ready for this. It’s only seven hours four days a week. You’ll be at work anyway. Both of us will be.” 

“Today, it’s only until lunch.” 

“Is it?” 

“They want him to acclimate slowly.” 

“Okay, do you need me to pick you up once he is done? You’re staying today, right?” 

Ana shook her head. “No need. My mom will meet us at the school at noon and bring Alan home. Then I am going back to work.” 

“Let’s go, then.” He smiled and took her hand. “Alan, it’s time to go to school!” 

Alan came running in, dragging his bag behind him, a sure sign that there were unnecessary things inside it. 

“Put him in the car and I will search through his bag.” 

And sure enough, there were a plethora of toys stuffed inside. Ana emptied it out and followed the boys out of the door. An hour later, Ana was sobbing as her son walked into his classroom with the rest of the kids. 

Damien put his arm around Ana and led her back to the car. “Are you sure you don’t want me to drop you off and pick you up again?” 

“It’s fine. I don’t have to be there for the next few hours, so.” 

The morning passes slowly. Ana kept checking the phone to make sure everything was alright. She was sitting in a nearby cafe, wondering if Alan would cry and the teacher would call. Of course, she didn’t receive a call. Alan had done well. 

He jumped into her arms when she picked him up and asked when he could go back to school again. 

“Mrs. Reid, he did really well,” Alan’s teacher smiled. She was young. 

“I’m not married, Ana corrected. “Just call me Ana, though.” 

“Oh, I thought Alan’s dad…” 

“My boyfriend. We’re working on getting Alan’s last name changed but it will take a few months.” 

“Boyfriend?‘ she asked herself. That was exactly what he was. 

“Oh,” the teacher said, blushing as though she was embarrassed. Ana had no doubt she was having some thoughts about Damien. 

Her phone rang and Ana saw it was him. “Hey,” 

“Hello,” he purred. “Everything going okay?” 

“Of course, it did. Mom is strapping him into the car right now and I am heading to work.” 

“And are you going to work late today?” 

“I think so. So, don’t rush to pick me up.” 

Chapter 73 

I won’t. 171 see you in a few hours though, right?” 

“You will.” 

And hung up the phone and bid goodbye to Alan. When she went back to work, she had a lot to take care of When Ana finished work unexpectedly early, she wanted to surprise Damien She appeared in front of his office building and called him, he pretty much left everything and came down. 

Damien climbed into the passenger seat. Before she could put her seat belt on, Damien pulled her in and graced her with an incredibly passionate kiss, 

“Oh,” she breathed “What was that for?” 

“Ana?” Damien whispered, closing his eyes 

“What’s the matter?” She could see something in his expression, but she couldn’t decipher it. He looked almost desperate 

His breath rushed out in a gust. “Nothing

The entire way home, they talked about their day and what Ana knew about Alan’s time at school. They picked up a pizza on the way to the house, and the three of them rolled around on the sofa, eating and playing board games. It was amazing how easy those moments had become for them. 

During lunch on Thursday, Ana made a quick call to see how Alan was doing before she made her way back to the office. Liam, her partner for the project was on his laptop with a sandwich. 

“Anastasia, can you come to take a look at these numbers for me? Something is off and I can’t figure it out.” 

“You’ve been staring at it for hours now, maybe that is why,” she teased. 

Ana leaned over and started going over the numbers on the laptop. About five minutes into the comparison, she caught Liam looking at her. He quickly. averted his eyes and she realized her top was hanging a little low. 

“Sorry,” he mumbled. 

Ana adjusted the top and heard something clearing their throat. She looked up and saw her colleague, Carmen, staring daggers at her. 

“What the hell are you doing?” she screamed. 

“Working.” Ana said, completely taken off guard by Carmen’s sudden outburst. 

“No, you are not. You are trying to seduce my boyfriend.” 

Ana’s mouth dropped open. She was absolutely not trying to seduce anyone. 

“Knock it off, Carmen,” Liam scolded almost like she was a child. 

Carmen completely ignored him. “You little skank, you’ve been coming into him for months now.”
