Chapter 13 

Irene’s POV 

Instead of replying, she settled into the seat before me and placed her tray down. 

“Are you new in the empire?” She asked, her voice barely above a whisper, and I nodded. 

“I guessed.” 

“You are too pretty to be unknown and too clueless to have lived here all your life,” she dug into her food, taking one huge mouthful that I hadn’t expected to fit. 

“Noah is royalty. And that applies to him being here, too.” 

“Our empire is ruled by his brother, Alek, who everyone considers untouchable because you can’t plan anything around him.” 

My brows arched, and I leaned forward, incredibly curious about her words. “Why’s that?” 

She looked around and then looked back at me. 

“I can’t tell you because if someday you meet him, my cover would be blown.” 

While this made me even more curious, I nodded and didn’t say anything more. 

I looked down and took a bite of my vegetable salad, and I was surprised by how good it tasted. 

“Like I was saying she started, but I interrupted. 

“You might want to tell me your name first, yeah?” 

What was the whole point of saving her and conversing if I didn’t even know who I was talking to? 

“Oh, me.” 

“My name is Luciana. 

“Luciana,” I repeated. It was a beautiful name. One that I had never heard before 

But that was understandable; I barely knew anyone beyond the Bloodhound pack. 

My heart ached at the thought of Lyra, and I silently prayed to the moon goddess to keep her safe. 

As long as she was somewhere a little better than here, that was fine. 

“Well, back to what I was saying, King Alek is unreachable, and no one would dare to be with Prince. Elton unless they had some spare life,” she said with a grimace. 

No surprise there.

He scared the shit out of me too, and I wanted nothing more than to stay away from him. 

But that was impossible. 

Not when I belonged to him. 

“So, that leaves Noah as the only option of marrying into the Royal Family.” 

With this, I finally understand what Luciana is trying to say. 

Noah was the most wanted man in their academy. It made a lot of sense, considering his warm personality and charming looks. 

Not to mention, he was royalty 

But a tiny part of me felt I would have picked Alek if asked to choose between the three. 

It was definitely the human part of me as Liv had decided that Noah was who she wanted. 

Something about Alek drew me in despite how he made me feel like I needed to be on my best behaviour. 

It was as though something about the man that lurked inside of him was made for me.

“So, now that he has declared you his woman, the news is already spreading, and soon, people will know who you are. 

There’s a mix of worry and warning in her words that made me tense, and my spine straightened. 

“Is that going to be a problem?” In the end, there was no changing what was between Noah and me; he was my fated mate. 

A union that the moon goddess had decided by herself.

“You should know that there’s Kyla. She’s considered the golden student, and everyone knows that she is the woman that would most likely be Noah’s woman, considering how they have been over

My fists clenched at her words, and there was an unexpected feeling of anger and irritation there. 

He had a girlfriend? 

Was that why he didn’t want us to be together in school? So that his little girlfriend wouldn’t know that he had a mate?

My mind returned to the scene this morning, and I scoffed, suddenly finding the whole thing laughable. 

Just what did these pair of brothers take me for? 

He clearly has someone that he cares about and wants to be with. Yet, he had acted out this morning as though the bond mattered to him. 

Like I mattered. 

And then, the scene from this morning made me believe him even more. That there was something there. 

I was so stupid. 

“As long as he’s ready to protect you, I don’t think you have anything to worry about.” 

“Otherwise, you might have to watch your back.” 

“Tyla is a b*tch,” she adds, and the fear in her eyes has my plastic fork tightening in my hands. 

I took a deep breath. 

I could handle this. As long as I told her that Noah was blabbing, he had only said that to save Luciana, I could have her off my back. 

Or better still, Noah could tell her I was some distant cousin he just wanted to save. 

Any story would work as long as she kept her Prince, and I got my peace. 

After lunch, I realised Luciana was also in her first year, but her timetable and mine were completely different for today. We had more classes together on some other days. 

Before, I had found the classes unbearable, but now, the thought that there could be some trouble coming my way, I found myself constantly thinking about Tyla and Noah’s acting. 

By the time I was done for the day, I was more exhausted than every other student and even more confused about how I would get back. 

I had come with Noah this morning, but with what happened and the whispers I had heard during the last period, the last thing I wanted was to leave with him. 

However, as soon as I stepped outside, I saw Sam, the man who had picked me up from The Medallion. 

The one with the key to my power bind bracelet. 

“Miss Irene, His Majesty asked me to pick you up from school,” Sam informed me with a tight.
