Chapter 4: Power Trip

Later that night, after playing and watching tv with Victoria, jay helped her clean up and get ready for bed since Andrea did it the previous night. He brushed his teeth and sang pop songs with her, helped her change into her jammies, pick out a stuffed doll, and finally he read her an entire chapter from the book "candy creatures"; which talks about an island of candy people who face everyday problems and solve them with a happy ending. Before finishing the chapter, he looked over and saw that Victoria was fast asleep so he closed the book, gave her a kiss, and gently closed her door.

Jay slipped down the hall into their bedroom and said "Victoria's asleep now" before sitting in a recliner chair and opening a book while Andrea was in the bathroom. When she came out, jay immediately dropped his book... even after 7 years and the birth of a child, her body still had the beauty that drove him to near madness. Jay immediately tackled her as they fooled around quietly so they wouldn't wake Victoria up, before reading and chatting afterward and falling asleep in each other's arms. The next morning, carried on as usual, with Andrea getting Victoria up to school, waiting with her till the bus arrived then returning home to see jay off as he left for work, and then going into her office and starting on her own work.

Meanwhile, Victoria shuddered as the bus drove closer and closer to school where she had to be near Carlos...part of her was scared while the other half couldn't wait to see him...if he still remembered her name. As the bus pulled up to the loading dock and everyone exited and walked into the building towards the cafeteria, Victoria felt a sigh of relief. After grabbing her breakfast and sitting down, she got worried as Carlos was walking toward her table and he took a seat next to her. He smiled before frowning at the sight of a nervous Victoria and said "am I bothering you because if so I can leave" and Victoria said, "no no, sit it's just weird things have been happening and it has me on edge". Carlos said "the same has been happening to me too every since I hit you with that ball" and Victoria smiled and said "things like what?". Carlos sighed and said, "we can't talk about it here, people will think we're weird, meet me during recess...but come alone if you can".

Victoria smiled and said of course, before they changed the subject and began just asking each other random questions about each other's favorite cartoons, books, and even their fears until the bell rang signaling dismissal to class. The school day went by as usual with Victoria finishing her work rather quickly in each class and then gossiping with her friends Katy, Meredith, harper, and Lila about cute boys and embarrassing things that other students did, and just random things from home as well. Before Victoria knew it, recess came around and lucky for her, Lila went home sick after one of the cooks screwed up the preparation of the lunch food. As the other kids walked outside to the playground, Victoria and Carlos fell back and waited for everyone to exit before walking out themselves. Victoria and Carlos walked over to a tree that no one ever hung by and seat beneath it before Victoria broke the silence and flat-out said "I have these strange powers that only come out when I'm near you or thinking about you". Carlos sat in silence before he finally spoke up and said "The same thing happened to me yesterday and last night".

Victoria smiled and said "that's why I looked fearful because I thought they would trigger again but they haven't...I feel them surging through me right now since you're near but suddenly I can control them a little bit better". Carlos smiled and said what do you have? and she said " can shoot lasers from my eyes, hear other people's thoughts and I -". Before Victoria could say anything she began to levitate but Carlos pulled her back down before anyone noticed". Victoria said" what can you do?" and Carlos smiled and said" I have super strength and speed, and I can shoot bursts of purple energy out of my hands" and believe it or not I can teleport". Victoria smiled and said "take us to Paris real quick" and Carlos smiled, snapped his fingers and boom they were standing right on top of the Eiffel tower and smelling French baguettes and pastries in the background". Carlos snapped his fingers again as they reappeared behind the tree as the teachers began calling the kids to line up and head inside.

After revealing their powers, their friendship took off, and evolved during the last 2 weeks as more powers popped up and strangely seemed to stay under control as long as they were near each other. They also began working together in class, eating together at lunch and hanging together once a week during recess as friends whilst rumors spread about them dating and the guys and girls playfully teased them both. For Carlos, he felt more and Victoria was beginning to feel the same, but the timing of their puppy love was about to create a whole world of adventure, chaos, and confusion for the entire Mendoza family.
