Chapter 40 

Ragnar had the sudden realization that all the necklaces Diana bought for Josephine would look extremely gorgeous on Josephine’s neck. 

Josephine stood there nervously. The way Ragnar was staring at her made her feel incredibly uncomfortable. 

She lowered her head and twisted the sides of her pajamas with both of her hands while her toes gripped the slippers she was wearing anxiously. 

“What should I do?” she asked herself in her mind. 

“Should I walk over and ask him to make room for me? Or should I sleep beside the bed? Maybe I should just crawl into bed as if nothing is out of the 

ordinary.” 

No matter what idea she came up with, she couldn’t make herself follow through with them. 

After taking a few deep breaths, Josephine finally raised her head and looked at Ragnar. “Mr. Levine, don’t you have mysophobia? In order to not disturb your sleep, it’s best if I sleep on the couch instead.” 

Ragnar’s face darkened. He looked at Josephine and said, “I’ve told you to stop calling me Mr. Levine.” 

“Okay, Ragnar,” said Josephine demurely. She looked at him and continued, “Aside from your mysophobia, we have to consider your reputation too. We only have a three–year contract. After that, you’ll marry someone else again. It’ll be easier for you to explain to your new wife if we don’t sleep in the 

same bed now…” 

Before Josephine could finish her words, Ragnar’s face darkened even more. “Fine, have it your way!” he said in a deep voice. 

Then he turned off the light without skipping a beat. 

Josephine fell speechless. She was unaccustomed to the sudden darkness in the room. It took some time for her eyes to adjust to the darkness before she finally walked toward the couch in the room. 

She laid down and curled up on the small sofa that just about fit her lanky frame. Then she closed her eyes and listened to hers and Ragnar’s breathing in 

the darkness. 

Josephine was so tired that it didn’t take her long to fall asleep. Ragnar, however, remained wide awake. 

“There’s a woman in my room! I can clearly hear her breathing!” thought Ragnar as his thoughts became even more chaotic. 

Josephine’s breathing gradually became normal and even to the extent that she started to snore. 

“Well, I’m glad at least one of us is sleeping well,” thought Ragnar sarcastically. He tossed and turned on the big bed. He couldn’t fall asleep no matter what, so he got up from the bed and walked over to where Josephine was sleeping with the lights still turned off. He didn’t turn on the light and walked 

over to her. 

It was a rainy night; no moon or stars could be seen. The dark sky made the room even darker. Nevertheless, Ragnar could see the curled–up Josephine on the couch clearly. 

He wondered if she was feeling cold from the way she was hugging herself tightly. The couch was not that big, and she had to curl up to fit inside. She could easily fall off the couch should she so much as make a little turn. 

“Am I really that scary? That you would rather sleep on the couch than with me. Are you afraid that I’m going to eat you up?” whispered Ragnar to the sleeping sosephine. 

He remained standing before her. Suddenly, he reached out his hand toward Josephine’s head and was about to stroke her hair before stopping himself. Instead, he abruptly turned around to get Josephine a blanket. 

Again, he stopped himself from doing that after giving it some thought. He turned back to face Josephine, bent down to pick her up, and carried her to the big bed. 

Three years is a long time. He couldn’t be so heartless to let her sleep on the couch for three years. She should get used to sleeping next to him. 

It was just that… 

Ragnar picked Josephine up from the couch. The softness of the body was so different from that of a man’s! It was like she was a whole other species. 

Moreover, the fragrance from her body washes immediately infiltrated his nose. To his surprise, he found the smell very pleasant instead of annoying. 

In the 28 years he had been alive, Ragnar had never been so close to any woman except for Josephine. He had never hugged, kissed, or done anything 

else with a woman. 

Josephine was the one who broke the dry spell. She had kissed him more than once, arousing his desire and causing him to have wet dreams at night. Heck, he even thought of kissing her. 

It was to his surprise that he would carry her to bed. Her body was very light, and her waist was particularly slender. 

Ragnar looked down at Josephine’s collarbone, and his eyes immediately lit up. She certainly had what it takes to make a man feel hot. 

Ragnar’s swallowed down his desire and turned his gaze to Josephine’s delicate face, admiring her beautiful brows and cute button nose. 

Finally, his eyes fell on her red lips. 

Ragnar’s eyes instantly flashed with a burning passion. He stared at Josephine’s lips and thought, “Dammit! I want to kiss her! Wait a minute, what’s wrong with me? Ragnar frowned when the realization dawned on him. He quickly put Josephine on the bed as if she was a hot potato. 

Then, just when Ragnar was about to lie down, he saw that Josephine, who he had put on one side of the bed, had flipped over and was lying in the middle of the bed. 

The bed was more than six and a half inches wide. 

And yet, Josephine was not keeping to her side of the bed. Instead, she had taken more than half of the bed space by spreading her lanky limbs all over the place. 

Ragnar had always been strict with himself. He was the type that would sleep like a mummy in a coffin, so he couldn’t help but frown when he saw how Josephine was sleeping. 

“Man, she’s quite a handful. Why can’t she just sleep properly?” thought Ragnar, suddenly regretting carrying Josephine to bed. 

Anyhow, Ragnar had already carried her over. Besides, he had to get used to sleeping next to her sooner or later, so he simply pushed Josephine’s limbs aside and straightened her up. 

Finally, he laid down on the big bed and covered the two of them with the blanket before closing his eyes in satisfaction. 

However, Ragnar remained awake because Josephine, originally sleeping on her back, suddenly moved again! In her sleep, she snuggled against Ragnar with her head resting in the crook of his arm. 

Then, she put one arm over Ragnar’s chest before wrapping one of her legs over his waist.. 

Ragnar was speechless and his body immediately tensed up. He glanced at Josephine, who was almost on top of him, and impatiently pushed her aside again. 

But it wasn’t long before Josephine snuggled against him once more as her arm and leg tightly wrapped around him as if he was a pillow. 

This time, Josephine’s head was slightly raised against the crook of his underarm, and her hair fell across his body, tickling him. Her warm breath was like a tiny electric current, numbing him. 

Ragnar turned around and was immediately met with Josephine’s pouting lips. Her face was so close to him, and he wished so much to kiss that rosy face of hers. 

Ragnar’s mind went blank, and before he knew it, he was kissing her lips! Her lips were so soft, making him want to tease them open with his tongue, but 

before he could do that… 

Josephine started making a sound, and her eyebrows scrunched together. It seemed like she was about to wake up! 

Ragnar suddenly came to his senses! He immediately pulled his lips away from hers. “What the hell was I doing just now?” he thought with annoyance.
