Chapter 11 

James wasn’t pleased upon hearing such words. He, the president of the esteemed Howe Group, standing at six feet one inch. tall, considered himself to be a talented individual. Yet, they were saying he was either disabled or an ugly monster. He was determined to clear his name by entering the ward. 

However, before James could do so, a doctor in a white coat walked into the room ahead of him. 

As soon as the doctor entered, his eyes were filled with affectionate longing as he stared at James’s newlywed wife. This doctor’s gaze never left her after entering the room as if his eyes were permanently fixed on her. 

Nadia and James had just obtained their marriage license, even though it was only in name. Seeing the man look at Nadia with such a look full of desire in his eyes, James couldn’t help but feel an inexplicable sense of unease. James wanted to see what Nadia was up to behind his back. 

Although James had promised Daisy to marry Nadia, they had agreed beforehand that he would assess her character after marriage. Only if she passed his scrutiny would they truly become husband and wife and spend their lives together. 

If James discovered that Nadia was a deceitful woman who behaved obediently in front of him but was cunning behind his back, he wouldn’t hesitate to teach her a lesson. No one who plotted against him would get away with it. 

Nadia didn’t pay much attention to all this. Her mind was solely focused on Iris’s condition 

Seeing Kadin, Nadia hurriedly stepped forward and inquired about Iris’s illness. She anxiously asked, “Dr. White, when will my grandmother have the surgery?” 

Kadin looked at Nadia’s worried expression and quickly reassured her. “Nadia, don’t worry. Mrs. Lewis’s cancer is still within a controllable range. The test results are out. Her body is weak right now. Considering her age, it’s not the best time for surgery. She needs some time to recover. But rest assured. With me here, I will do everything in my power to treat her.” 

After speaking, he gently patted Nadia’s shoulder. 

In James’s eyes, this scene was quite unpleasant. “Why is this doctor so familiar with her?” he asked inwardly. “Why would this man call her name in such an affectionate way? It sounded even more affectionate than how I, her husband, call her.” 

Although James didn’t have any feelings for the woman before him, what this doctor had done just now really got on James’s 

nerves. 

He was James Howe, and he didn’t want to be cuckolded right after getting married. 

James straightened his suit and walked quickly toward the ward. He went directly behind Nadia, placing his hand on her waist and gazing at her with tender eyes. In a gentle and deep voice, he asked, “Honey, how is Mrs. Lewis’s condition?” 

Nadia was startled by James’s actions. “Wasn’t he just saying he was going back?” she wondered. “Why is he hete now?” For some reason, James’s gaze and tone made her feel uneasy. 

What was James up to? 

Meanwhile, Kadin, standing nearby, was shocked and opened his mouth wide. In an incredulous tone, he asked, “Nadia, are you married?” 

Elena, who was standing beside them, lost her composure as well upon seeing her brother–in–law. 

This man had sharp features, handsome eyebrows, eyes like obsidian, a straight nose, thin lips, and a few strands of bangs falling on his forehead, shimmering amber under the light. When he walked in from outside, he exuded an air of elegance. 

Elena never expected her sister to find such a handsome husband. She remembered that she had just been talking about him being disabled and an ugly monster, and now she knew she was terribly wrong. 

Elena quickly pulled Nadia’s sleeve. Nadia turned her head to look at Elena. 

“Who is this?” Elena asked in a voice only she and Nadia could hear. 

Although Elena had just heard the man calling Nadia “Honey,” she still couldn’t believe it and wanted Nadia to tell her the truth personally 

Nadia looked up at James. He had just called her “Honey,” so there was no need to hide anything from her family anymore. She took James’s hand and walked to Iris’s bedside, solemnly introducing James to her grandmother. 

“Grandma, this is my husband. I told you about him earlier.” 

Iris looked at her grandson–in–law, who looked handsome and talented. She thought of Nadia’s previous mention of Jim finding a job. She was so happy that her lips curled into a bright smile. She pointed to the chair beside her, beckoning, “Don’t stand there. Have a seat.” 

James replied, “Sure. Thank you, Mrs. Lewis.” 

Iris was overjoyed. It was worth it for her granddaughter to have put in so many years of effort to find such a talented husband. He seemed to treat Nadia well. 

Chapter 11 

Nadia turned her head and looked at Elena. Nadia didn’t want to introduce James to her family so soon. After all, both she and James had their own motives. But it couldn’t be helped now. 

“Elena, he is my husband, Nadia said. 

Elena felt even more worried after receiving confirmation. 

After all, Nadia and this man had only known each other for a short time, and Nadia had just broken up with Jim. It was 100 soon for her to get a marriage license, and there were too many uncertainties. 

However, in front of so many people. Elena couldn’t say anything. 

Nadia pulled Elena and introduced James, saying, “This is my sister, Elena.” 

James greeted Elena and then glanced at Kadin, who was standing nearby. James saw the disappointment on Kadin’s face as Kadin looked at Nadia unwillingly. 

The previous, Kadin had heard from Elena that Nadia only had a boyfriend, so how did this man become her husband in just one day? 

Kadin felt like an outsider in the ward, so he turned around with the medical record book and prepared to return to his 

office. 

Just as Kadin reached the door, unwillingly, he turned back to look at Nadia and said in a low voice, “Nadia, come to my office for a moment. I’ll talk to you about Mrs. Lewis’s condition.” 

Nadia looked up at Kadin and replied, “Okay, Dr. White. I’ll come in a moment.” 

As their eyes met, Nadia seemed to have seen a sea, a peaceful world, and a clear reflection of herself through Kadin’s eyes. 

The first time Nadia came to the hospital because of Iris’s illness, she met Kadin, her grandmother’s attending physician, and they exchanged contact information. 

Kadin was tall, probably more than 6 feet, with a pair of gold–rimmed glasses and a white coat. He looked clean and tidy, like a big brother next door. He even added Nadia on WhatsApp. He once tried to ask her out to have dinner together. 

Nadia thought that Kadin was just her grandmother’s attending physician, so there was no need to have a meal together. But this night, she felt that Kadin was acting strangely. 

Before Nadia could speak, James preemptively agreed, “Sure, we’ll go together later.” 

James had noticed the strange look Kadin gave Nadia. He wouldn’t let Kadin and Nadia be alone together at such a late hour. 

Upon hearing the response, Kadin paused for a second, nodded, and walked toward the door. 

Elena, hearing that it was about Iris’s condition, tidied up the box on the bedside table and handed it to Nadia, saying, “Didn’t you two just get married today? Technically, tonight is your wedding night. I’ll go to Dr. White’s. You two should hurry back. Leave this to me.” 

Nadia frowned, not expecting Elena to say that. She had already heard the phrase “wedding night” many times that night. It was just too embarrassing. 

“Elena, I’ll stay here with Grandma. Ray is still young. Do you really think Nathan will take good care of him?” 

Elena pushed the two of them toward the exit of the ward. Iris couldn’t stop smiling. Finally, her granddaughter got married, and Iris was already thinking about holding her great–grandchild. 

“My dear grandson–in–law, do your best. I’m waiting for you to bring me a great–grandchild,”
