Chapter 22: Galactic and Sergey Want a Baby
Galactic and Sergey have been together for two years. Their love has deepened but they feel lonely because their percentage of the population is less than .005%. The scientists at the foundation haven’t reached their financial goals so the superhuman robot program has been put on hold. They estimate it will take a few years before they reach that goal.
Galactic and Sergey are at home watching photos from Galactic’s travels in space when Galactic decides to discuss something that’s been on her mind.
Galactic: Sergey, I want to ask you something. Are you happy?
Sergey: “Of course. Why would you ask me that?”
Galactic: “Don’t you feel lonely more than when you were totally human?”
Sergey: “Yes, because I’m isolated.”
Galactic: “Do you think a baby would help?”
Sergey: “What?”
Galactic: “Do you think a baby would lessen our loneliness?”
Sergey: “That’s what I thought you said. How can we have a baby?”
Galactic: “Use that amazing brain of yours. There are many ways.”
Sergey: “Now that I think about it, it does sounds plausible.”
Galactic: “Wouldn’t that be wonderful?”
Sergey: “It would, and we’d be too busy to be lonely.”
Galactic: “You’re right. Let’s discuss the possibilities.”
Sergey: Okay, you start.”
Galactic: “We would have to decide if we want a human or a superhuman baby. I think we should discuss that with my creator. He’ll be able to help us, but first let’s mull it over.”
Sergey: “I think a superhuman baby is the way to go. I don’t have the patience to raise a human baby.”
Galactic: “I feel the same way, but how can the scientists create one? Where will they get the brain? I suppose they can take part of our brains from the computer without our memories and place it in the robotic body. Do you think that can be done?”
Sergey: “I think it can. Let’s make an appointment with your creator. He’ll answer all our questions.”
Galactic makes the appointment. She can’t wait to hear what her creator will say.”
