Chapter 26 ~ We’re Done Playing

Evander’s POV ~

Avery is growing like a weed. In the past two months he’s gained three pounds. Adrianna is healed completely and has taken over warrior training with Blake.

Erik and I are in my office with Dad and Adrian. We’re mapping out the raids on the offshore labs. We don’t know how much security we will be facing. Our dragons can fly under cover of darkness..so stealth isn’t an issue.

Adrianna wants to come with us, but I want her to stay with the baby. It’s a point of contention, so I am trying to negotiate with her. Dad asked “Is Anna still planning on going with us?” At my nod.. he continued “It’s difficult for her, son. She’s invested. After five years of going through it, she wants them all safe.”

Erik said “I can understand that. I do.. She doesn’t like the thought of anyone suffering what she went through. She watched too many die.. a feeling of helplessness drives her.”

I thought about that.. Looking at it through her eyes, then I understand. I mind linked her to come to the office.. When she walked in, I held my hand out and she came immediately to me.. sitting in my lap.

I told her our plans.. and said “We leave in two hours.. We are taking the plane to Galveston.. then fly dragon from there, once it’s dark.”

Dad said “It’s too risky to go dragon all the way.. especially in daylight. That sniper was a CIA covert operative.. so it’s safe to assume Silas Matthews or someone higher up ordered the hit.”

Adrian said “I am looking into Councilman Hicks. I want to know everything about that man. He’s in it up to his eyeballs. He’s a traitor to all of us!”

Adrianna left to pump milk.. making sure the baby had enough to last, until we returned. Mom would keep him with her, because we simply don’t trust anyone else. Abram is sitting this one out.. he had an influx of humans seeking sanctuary he’s dealing with.

We geared up and gathered our troops. Erik isn’t happy about staying home again.. but should anything happen to Dad and me, he will be King. He has to stay back.

We’re flying the cargo plane this time. Making sure we have enough room for survivors. And Doc can triage any who are in bad shape. We secured our equipment and gear.. and were ready to take off, when the High Priestess of Ultima coven appeared..

“King Draco, my coven was attacked last night. Three of my witches were taken. They caught us sleeping. We fought back.. but there was too many. We killed several but being outnumbered, it was too much.”

Dad said “Bring your coven to Draconium.. we will protect you. The Queen will provide what you need.. and Ursula? Spread the word. All supernaturals will need to be aware. This is escalating, and we all need to band together.”

We arrived in Galveston, just before dark. I walked over to speak to the leader of the clowder of cougar shifters. Manuel said they had been observing helicopters flying out to the abandoned drilling rig the last several days.

Adrianna asked if they had suffered any losses. He shook his head “Not for two years. We were attacked and lost two. One died and one was taken. I’m hoping she is on that rig.” Adrianna took his hand “If she is, we’ll bring her home.”

I smiled.. my mate.. never a second’s doubt we would prevail. I love her positivity. Now we’re looking for three witches and a werecougar! Going to be a busy night.

The sun had set.. and we were preparing to take off. I shifted into Argon.. Adrianna climbed onto my back and a warrior handed her our weapons duffle.. Manuel climbed on Donnaugh.. holding their weapons cache. We leaped up and were airborne in seconds.

Dad and his horde flew southwest.. while we went east. I spotted the rig.. and went low.. observing four men above deck. Landing in the water, we shifted.. pulling on shorts.

Climbing up all four corners, we landed on the deck in sequence. Adrianna walked to the center of the landing pad.. and whistled loudly. The guards spun on her. One demanding “How did you get out?” She grinned and said “By killing everyone. Now, it’s your time to die.”

She roundhouse kicked him and he flew off the deck into the water. The other three charged her. She ripped ones head off.. the other two she snapped their necks.

While she did that, we had been disabling the cameras. Adrianna pulled a keycard from one of the guards, and we entered the facility. None of us spoke. We were there to do a job, and wanted to waste no time. Warren.. our munitions expert, was placing bombs, as we went.. Adrianna would detonate them once we were away.

We didn’t ask questions of anyone we met.. we killed them. They were engaged in the murder of our kind, there was no reprieve. By the time we reached the cells, all the survivors were aware we had arrived. There was seven.. only one witch.. but she was in good shape, and managed to help us get the other six ready for transport. Topside, the survivors secured on our backs, we took off.
