Heroes Without A Plan
Chapter Four: To Become a Hero

The heroes woke up late in the morning to a loud bang, followed by a somewhat tantalizing smell coming from the small kitchen. Eliot was the first to fully awaken. He watched the two beside him slowly come to their senses.

Agatha was on her way to the three. Following her as she walked were four floating plates of food.

“Good mornin’, I made breakfast!” she cheered and set the plates down on the table with a flick of her wrist. The heroes got up and walked over to the table.

On each plate, next to a large piece of bread covered in a green paste, were a few pieces of what looked like turnips.

“What’s that?” Eliot asked as he picked up the bread.

“Turnips and homemade bread!” Agatha said with pride. She added that the green paste was a mix of avocados and basil, which she grew.

Around noon, Agatha led the three outside and showed them where she was going to teach them.

“Hang on, you didn’t even tell us why we are becoming heroes! What are we fightin’ for anyway?” Alyssa had no love for the idea, in fact, she still believed this witch was crazy.

“Oh, right. Maybe I forgot a few things!” Agatha laughed awkwardly, “This world is in ruins! Monsters are wreaking havoc all over the land!”

“That would have been nice to know a little earlier!” Alyssa scoffed.

“This is scary!” Eliot cried.

“What kind of monsters?” Mike continued the interrogation that Alyssa had started.

“Dear, you are all very eager. It’s making me tired.” Agatha went on with a sigh. “The beasts came from another planet, called Kabouterbos. And they domesticated giant, wild bees and rode them here!”

“Bees, huh?” Mike asked as confusion reared its ugly head.

“The monsters, they’re smart. They have bazookas to shoot everyone they see!”

“How do you even fight that?” Alyssa remarked.

Agatha went on to tell them about the monsters they trained to fight, called goblins. They had bees that they rode around on and they shot at the citizens with their bazookas. Recently, the goblins had switched to shooting corn from their bazookas because they ran out of ammunition. And now the heroic trio...would try their best to defeat...that.

A mixture of thrill and horror washed over them as the witch gave them their unique roles. There was no question that this trio of rogue, sorcerer, and warrior would soon be on the world’s battlefield.

At first, the heroes were assigned to do some trivial exercises on their own. Alyssa fiddled with her bow, Mike practiced his sword swing, and Eliot talked to Agatha about the dangerous wonders of magic. sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ (ꜰind)ɴʘvel.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Mike was a fast learner and Alyssa already understood the basics, but Agatha knew it would be some time before they were fully adept. Yet for the sake of the home she cared so deeply for, she was willing to wait.
