Chapter 351

Evadne hadn’t expected Thaddeus to carry her back to the room where she had lived alone for three years.

“What!”

Thaddeus had intended to set her gently on the bed, but the petite woman in his arms was as restless as a feisty kitten. She squirmed, his grip slipped, and she landed face–first on the bed.

Fortunately, Evadne’s face was still in one piece, otherwise her nose would’ve been a goner.

“It’s your own fault for wriggling. I didn’t intend to drop you.” Thaddeus looked down at her, a smirk threatening to break through at her current predicament. “Men are always finding excuses for themselves!”

Evadne muttered angrily, attempting to get up from the bed. However, Thaddeus was quick to grab her ankle, leaning over her and trapping her beneath him. “Let go of my foot! Are you some kind of pervert?” Evadne curled her legs, nearly flashing her undergarments. It was beyond mortifying!

Despite her struggles, Evadne’s efforts were futile against Thaddeus. It was like trying to beat an Olympic athlete with playground games.

His grip tightened on her ankle as his gaze traveled from her flushed face, down to her cherry lips, her slender neck, and finally her alluring collarbone.

His breath hitched, his blood heated, and his heart pounded erratically.

Suddenly, a sharp pang of pain shot through Thaddeus‘ head. He clenched his eyes shut, pressing his palms against his temples to ward off the sudden wave of discomfort. “Thaddeus, it hurts. It hurts so much. Thaddeus.” 

“Be patient, the pain will slowly subside.”

“I’ll be as gentle as I can with you, I promise.”

Fragments of memories he had never seen before filled his mind, accompanied by sensual moans that made his face flush.

It was as if he had shared an intimate night with a woman in this very room.

But that was impossible. He had never been with any woman before.

Seeing Thaddeus distracted, Evadne took the opportunity to kick him in the stomach.

“Get off me!”

Although she didn’t use much force, Thaddeus stumbled backwards, barely catching himself against the wall.

Evadne’s eyes widened as she noticed his face turn pale and a thin layer of sweat forming on his forehead.

“Why isn’t it the time?” 

Evadne raised her captivating lips, her slender waist straight, and her long legs crossed. She sat there, exuding an air of royalty and charm that was almost untouchable, like a queen. “Oh, is it because Mr. Barry, Mrs. Fairhaven, and Edith are here, and you’re afraid I’ll ruin your little party?”

Thaddeus frowned, “What party?”

“The one where you’re courting, discussing marriage, and preparing for the wedding.” Evadne’s eyes were filled with mischief.

“Evadne! Shut up!” Thaddeus felt a pang in his chest, his eyes bloodshot with anger.

“Congratulations, Mr. Thaddeus, on your upcoming marriage.”

Evadne completely ignored his anger, instead, her smile grew wider as if she was genuinely congratulating him, “This time, Miss Edith is young and beautiful, comes from a much more prestigious family than Acacia, and she is Jareth’s sister. It’s like a two–for–one deal. Mr. Frederic will surely be pleased with this daughter–in–law, and it will also boost your position in the company.”

“Do you think I care about that?” Thaddeus felt as if he was about to explode.

“I don’t care if you do or don’t. Just stay out of my business, and I’ll stay out of yours. I’m leaving.”

Evadne had come tonight to settle scores with Elspeth, not to be bothered by this man. She just wanted to get out of this room as quickly as possible.

Thaddeus felt an intense pain, releasing his grip on her hand. Anger surged through his veins, stirring within his chest.

He had initially wanted to explain himself.

But he suddenly realized that what Evadne wanted was not an excuse or an explanation. She didn’t care if he was truly innocent.

What she wanted was for him to disappear from her life, completely and forever.

The evidence Jareth presented, although not direct, was still quite powerful.

The whole thing had become increasingly complicated.

Fortunately, only the Abernathy and Fairhaven families were present that night. If this was happening in front of outsiders or the media, Edith would be completely ruined.

As her brother, Jareth couldn’t do that to her.

“Elspeth, shall we have a chat?” Evadne coldly looked at Elspeth.

“I have plenty of time and I’m not in a rush. We can talk about whatever you want,” Evadne said, lifting an eyebrow in amusement and moving to stand in front of everyone. “We have all night to discuss our grievances.”

“I’m old and can’t keep up with you. Please, leave!” Elspeth’s tone hardened.

Thaddeus and Jareth both clenched their fists in unison.

There was no question about it, they were both protective of Evadne. They could handle anything else, but they couldn’t stand by and watch her being bullied!

“Originally, I wanted to have a private conversation with you, considering it’s not good to air dirty laundry in public. However, since you’re not cooperating, don’t blame me for not saving face for you.”

Evadne’s smile turned icy, her voice frosty, “At her last birthday banquet, Myra was attacked by a villain. You, Elspeth, had a part in it, didn’t you?”

Everyone was stunned, all eyes turning to Elspeth!

The Fairhaven family, who were about to leave, stopped in their tracks, their ears perking up at Evadne’s words!

“Ms. Evadne, we were once related by marriage. I know you dislike me, but I didn’t expect you to falsely accuse me like this,” Elspeth stammered, trying to keep her calm even as her heart pounded and her palms sweated..

“Alright. Then let me rephrase it,” Evadne said, her smile turning–sly, “The villain who attacked Myra, leaving Thaddeus severely injured, was an old acquaintance of yours, wasn’t he, Elspeth?”
