The walk was long, or at least it felt long. All I want to do is find out what's bothering him so I can fix it, so I can stop his worrying.

We didn't talk but as soon as we entered the pack house I turned to him with hopeful eyes. "Sebastian, please just let me know what it is."

He grabs my hand and leads me upstairs. When we enter our bedroom he sits down on the edge of the bed so I sit beside him. "It happened a while ago, back when Henry and I were kids."

He falls back onto the bed and I curl up against him, my head resting on his chest. I stay quiet and let him speak.

"My mother was pregnant with her third child."

He has another sibling?

"She was a month away from her due date but something went wrong, I don't want to get too far into it, but we rushed her to the doctor. I remember her bleeding while our father was speeding through traffic. We were supposed to stay at home but Henry refused to stay with me because I would mess with him. We were in the middle of an argument and he didn't want to be left alone with me."

I listen closely as Sebastian begins to play with my hair, twirling a thin strand around his finger.

"Anyways, they didn't have time to argue with us so my dad just shoved Henry and I in the backseat. My mother was crying, sobbing about the blood, her baby, and the pain. It caused Henry to start crying too, but we made it to the doctor and my father rushed her inside. Henry and I came in after and was told to wait in the waiting area so we did. I can't remember how long we waited there, but it felt like forever. Eventually my father came out and went straight through the doors in a fit of rage. A nurse came up to us asking where he went, but we didn't know."

My heart begins to race as I feel something bad is going to come up.

"The nurse told us they had to take the baby out now if it had any chance to survival and my mother agreed to let them. She lost too much blood... And, she died."

My heart stops and I look up at him, but he's staring at the ceiling.

"My father was begging her to let the baby go, the doctor said there was a high chance she wasn't going to make it. But she refused and my father lost it. He hated the baby, telling us that it killed our mother, but the baby didn't make it either. It died after a week in the hospital."

Tears begin to build in my eyes and I sit up to look at him. "That's not going to happen to me."

"You don't know that." He refuses to look at me and tears begin to fall from my eyes one by one. "When you told me you were pregnant it was all I could think about. History repeating itself."

"Sebastian-"

"If anything happens to you, I-I don't know what I would do."

"I'm fine and I'm going to be fine. That's a long ways away and you have nothing to worry about."

He shakes his head, "anything can happen."

"I don't even know if I'm pregnant for sure, well it's highly likely, but I still need to make an appointment and stuff. We'll go together and you'll see that everything is fine for now."

He sits up and lifts me onto his lap only to hold me tighter. "I love you Evangeline, you're my entire world."

"I know." I lightly laugh while wiping my tears from my cheeks. "I love you too Sebastian."

"Then we just talked it out."

"Wow, so he's fine with everything?"

"I hope so." I say and shrug my shoulders. "I don't know, I just need to help him get over this fear."

"Are you sure you can't tell me what he's scared of?" Fiona wines and I laugh.

"It's not my secret to tell."

"Okay, okay I get it." She waved it off. "So my sister will be here in two days and I have almost all the decorations for the welcoming party."

"Do you have a list of people you want to invite?" I ask and she nods. "I can't wait to meet her, if she's half as amazing as you are I'm sure we'll be great friends."

"I hope so, she could use a fresh start."

"So what caused her to move here anyways?" I ask and Fiona sets down her coffee.

"Her mate rejected her and she never wants to see him again, so logically she's running away from it all." Fiona sighs. "I just wish I knew why he rejected her but she won't tell me. I don't even know if she knows."

"That's horrible, how can you reject your mate?"

"I don't know but she absolutely heartbroken, and when she calls me she just ends up crying."

That must be miserable. I don't know what I would do if Sebastian rejected me.

"I can't even imagine how she's feeling." Fiona says and I try to lighten the conversation.

"Well we can make her new life awesome right? Who knows, she might just get over him?"

"I hope so." She sadly smiles. "So have you talked to your dad yet?"

"No, I don't know if I ever will." I exaggerate.

"I'm sure he wants to see you Evan."

When I start to think about him I feel bad, he lost his mate and now I'm ignoring him. But I can't get over what he did to mom, I don't know if I can ever forgive him.

"I'm sure he does."

I sit on the bed until Sebastian comes out of the bathroom. When he does I decide to bring up my grandmother.

"I'm worried, my grandmother wasn't there when I got to her house. Everything was gone."

"Well maybe she had to run from the same people that got you." He got in bed after turning off the lights, filling the room with darkness.

"Why wouldn't she leave a note hoping I would get it? Why would she just get up and go and never come back?" I ramble. "What if she's dead?"

"Hey, she's probably fine. Don't worry." He rubs my back soothingly. "Maybe she will come back."

I nod and lay back. "I hope so."

There's a short silence before he speaks, "Marina made an appointment for tomorrow."

"Good, I'll have something to look forward to then."

I curl up beside him and he wraps his arm around me. Suddenly a wave of sadness runs through me and before I know it tears are slipping from my eyes and rolling down my cheek. Sᴇaʀch Thᴇ Find ɴøᴠel.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Why am I crying?

More tears fall and I let out a small sob.

"Evangeline? Are you alright?"

I sit up and wipe the tears from my face. Sebastian gets up and turns on the light. "Why are you crying?" He rushes to me concerned and I shrug.

"I don't know."

Confusion covers his face. "Am I supposed to know?"

"I'm not being sarcastic, I really don't know why I'm crying. I just feel really emotional right now." More tears fall and I decided on letting it all out so I can get to sleep.

"Okay well come here." He motions for me and I scoot over to him.

I rest my head on his chest and continue on. "You won't reject me right?"

"Where is this coming from?"

"Fiona's sister was rejected by her mate."

He strokes my hair, "don't think that, it's ridiculous. I could never do that."

"Good," I laugh through my tears, "because I would kill you."
