Lacuna:

chapter 4

The mysterious man had returned, he kept his promise and came back. Gali made sure she brought him something, anything to show she was happy.

He couldn't do it, stay away from her until she was of age. It was hard with how much bond had grown from the little time he would spend looking out for her. He gave in and return, and now there he was, sitting beside her under the oak tree. Everything was perfect.

"I brought you something." Gali said excitedly. From her pocket, she pulled out a doll. Her mother had made the doll for her and gave it to her on her 4th birthday. She had thought if she gave him something that was special to her, he would know how grateful she was and it would mean something special to him as well. "Momma made it specially for me and I'm giving it to you, to show you how special you are. Here take it, it's all yours now."

It warmed his heart, he was special to her. If only she knew how much she actually meant to him; he would die just for her. "Why thank you Gali, I appreciate it." He gently took it from her hands and kissed it before placing it on his lap. "I also have something for you." Her curiosity peaked and she scooted closer to him, sat on her knees and clapped her gloved hands. Her reached into his pocket and pulled out a necklace with a snowflake pendant hanging from it. She couldn't help the gasp that left her lips, her eyes grew as wide as saucers and her heart melted. It was pretty.

"I want you to promise me to never take it off, alright?" He moved her hair away and clasped it into place around her neck. She nodded her head vigorously with a grin plastered on her face. Her heart skept a beat at the man's nice gesture and she couldn't help but throw her arms around him. "Thank you so much, I promise, I promise to never take it off." She whispered to him. He wrapped his arms around her and buried his head in the crook of her neck. "I'm Larkin by the way."

"Larkin? I love it."

She fiddled with the necklace around her neck as she looked out her window at the stars. She had stayed a bit longer with the man and just simply stared. Beautiful couldn't describe him enough; his curly white hair, pearly-white eyes with a tinge gold in them, everything of his was just so perfect. He had said nothing as she sat back down and stared at him and for that she's grateful because at that moment, words didn't need to be spoken.

In the dream, she was young, and the man had knelt before her and made a promise she remembers to have been kept before.

The man had cupped her cheek and softly said her name. She had felt so special, even with her young mind, it couldn't be missed how much the man adored her.

If only she had more dreams apart from that one, maybe she wouldn't be here right now- digging up the past, but sometimes all answers of the future lay in the past.

She softly sighed, got under the blankets and turned off the lamp on her bedside table. "it'll all be okay tomorrow." She whispered to herself before darkness engulfed her.
