Lacuna:

chapter 5

It was getting warmer, and winter was nearing its end. By now she would've been wearing a long face, but Larkin made sure that didn't happen. Once again, they laid under the oak tree, telling one another stories and jokes and just being them. Today was his last day with her and he wanted it to be special, knowing how much she hated it whenever he goes.

"I'm going to take you somewhere someday when you're of age." He looked deeply into her eyes as he said that, and as expected; her eyes sparkled with curiosity, "where?"

"A place where I'll make you my queen and every day you wake up, I'll always be around. You won't have to worry about me going anywhere seeing that you hate it whenever I have to go. It's a place where all things unimaginable exist and live together- a place of peace."

"Of course, I don't, I hate it. Will it be forever? Do you promise?" She sat up straight and helped up her pinkie. He smiled and hooked her with her little one, "I promise, however, I have bad news Gali." Her smile dropped and a frown took over. Her heart slowed down and fists curled in anticipation.

"I have to leave; you won't be seeing me for a long time, but I promise to visit." He stood up and watched as tears pooled in her eyes. Sadness took her in its hold, and she let the tears fall freely.

"But why do you not like me anymore?"

"Galinarael, never doubt my love for you, it's Endless. I made another promise that I will return and that promise will be kept as well." He took her hands in his and placed a soft kiss on both, cupped her cheeks and kissed both and then a kiss on her forehead.

"I promise Gali." And with that he disappeared into thin air.

"Larkin... "

It was getting colder; winter was nearing and like always that brought a smile to her face. The smile wasn't at all full seeing that all she could think about now was what was to happen once she got all the answers, will she finally be happy, or will she remain miserable? Questions spun around in her mind, and all were negative, dimming out her once joyous mood. Doubt clouded her mind, pulling her into the dark abyss she tries to avoid at all costs- overthinking.

"Hey! Stop overthinking, it's all going to be okay. Here is your coffee." Iso assured her, setting down a cup of coffee in front of her before sitting down beside her. She had called Iso the previous day to tell her of her plans of going with the man to get answers- at least if something happens, someone will have a clue of what happened.

"I know I know, but it's hard not to. I don't even know this man but I'm so desperate for answers."

She tried to argue. It sounded crazy even saying it out loud. She took a sip of her coffee. "Well stop it because he's already here. Get it together girl and remember, kick his junk if he tries anything funny." The words brought a smile to her face. What would she possibly do without her?

The bell at the door rang, indicating that someone opened the door and there he was. The same clothes from yesterday adorned his burly body, his curly hair curlier and skin still the same beautiful porcelain color it was. Is he Ever ugly?

He looked around for her and when he finally caught sight of her, he was mesmerized. Her golden hair up in a bun and her eyes still as bright as he remembered them. Her mood was down though, he could feel it and hopefully he could help in uplifting it.

He walked to where she was seated and gave a small smile before taking a seat on the chair in front of her. Awkward silence surrounded them for what seemed like forever until he broke it. "I'm taking you back to your hometown, I know that's the last place you want to be, but that's how you'll get your answers. You might want to get a bigger jacket than that."

Before she could say anything, Iso threw a puffy jacket around her shoulders and handed her a cup. She gave Larkin a wink and walked away. He was glad she hadn't told her anything yet. He assigned Isobella to watch over Gali whenever he couldn't, and it was nice to see her get along so well with his Beta.

"Come with me." He stood up and took her hand, led her outside the shop to his car. "This might hurt." He whispered to her, and all went dark.
