Lacuna:

chapter 6

The wolf had stayed a little longer, laid its head on her lap and basked in the tingles that sent jolts to its heart from how she gently ran her fingers through its fur. He knew she knew who he was, even in his wolf form, it wasn't hard to miss the pearly-white orbs she had stared into for most of her childhood. She was happy he had kept his promise and came back, even though he would spend little time with her, at least she got to see him one last time.

They sat under the oak tree, listening to one another's heartbeats, snow falling gracefully around them. The night was calm, Zephyr sang a soft song to them, no words needed to be spoken. Just a girl and her wolf and a wolf and his Beloved.

She woke up heaving, lungs denying oxygen and body shaking from lack of it. It was another bad dream, one she couldn't remember, but fear from it consumed her whole heart.

She looked around confused, seeming to have no memory of where she was and why she was there. She was in a car passenger seat, the air conditioner blasting warm air and the sound of rain padding against the window. "You're awake already, look I'm not kidnapping you or anything, but I know about your fear of cars, so I gave you some wolfsbane. Your head might hurt, I got you some coffee to reduce the pain." She looked at the owner of the voice and realized it was the nameless man she was to travel with to get answers and she calmed down a bit.

He knew she was confused; these were some of the side effects, but he was happy she willingly took the cup and drank the coffee. He didn't know any other way to get her into the car without her getting a panic attack and that was the only thing he had on him then, he took his chances.

When her mind finally registered to the man's words, she fell back into the perplexed state she was In. How did he come to know about her fear? Had he always been around that much to even know about it? She looked at him through her peripheral sight, he doesn't look a day older than 20. "What's your name?"

"It's only now you realize you don't even know my name. Larkin, Larkin Morph."

Bells rang in her head, a picture of a girl and a man under a tree appeared, the man called out the same name as Larkin had and before she could get a glimpse of his face, a bright light blinded her. "Gali, are you okay?" She looked around frantically, her mind entering a panicky state as the memory faded into oblivion and she gained her sight back. Larkin had pulled over on the side of the road from worry clasping his body. His name must've triggered a memory.

He watched as she tried to open the door but quickly pulled her into his arms and tightened his arms around her. It was raining outside, and he didn't want to risk her catching a cold.

Warmth engulfed her, she got a sense of Deja-vu from it. She had been in this position before and she had loved it. Her heart slowed to its normal pace, her shaking stopped and all stilled. He had been there for her, always. That's why he was special to her. "Don't worry, I'm here. Always."

"Ego semper utcumque es."
