I stood in front of the entrance door, contemplating on whether or not I should go inside. Not that I had a choice, anyway. I mean, I was already here, so there was no point not going inside.

held the doorknob, twisted it slightly and pushed it open, but I paused when I walked inside the living room and found Hunter seated on the couch across from Dad. At that point, I need not be told why Dad summoned me. “Summer… You are here,” Hunter rose to his feet with a welcoming smile on his face like he was excited to see me. He must really be.

“Hmm, Why are you here?” Though I knew Dad invited him over, I still asked.

“I asked him to come over. It has been a while, Summer, How have you been?” Dad stood up and pulled me into his arms warmly.

“I’ve missed you so much,”

Of course, I missed him so much too, but happy to be here? Nah, I’m not.

“I missed you too, Daddy,” I forced a smile after he pulled away from me.

“You are not looking bad for someone who has been busy lately with series of surgeries,” He ran his eyes over my body briefly and commented.

“Thank y you, Dad. You don’t look bad yourself. How have you been?” I walked over to sit beside him on the couch

“I’ve been good, but the outcome of our discussion today will determine whether I’ll still be good,” He shrugged, and of course, I knew what he meant by

that. This was about Hunter and I.

“Have you eaten yet, Dad? Do you want me to make something for you?”

“That’s not why I invited you over. I know you must be busy with work, so let’s keep this brief and short,” He adjusted on the couch and looked at Hunter.

*So, have you chosen a date yet?” I was forced to looked at Hunter when Dad asked him that. Is there something I’m missing out on? Date of what?

“Uhm… Not yet, Sir, I was thinking we should discuss it with Summer first before-

“I told you I was going to handle things on Summer’s end. So, have you chosen a date yet?” Dad insisted, and Hunter looked at me with the ‘it’s not my fault expression.

“Uhm… Not yet, Sir. We can do that today.”

I was left in the dark. Even though I kind of knew what they were talking about, I tried to convince myself that it couldn’t be that, Dad won’t possibly have someone else choose a wedding date for me, right? A wedding that I’ve not given my consent to at that.

“What date are you two talking about, Dad? I’m left in the dark,”

“Oh, that… I wanted Hunter to choose the date for your engagement. I mean, it’s high time you two get engaged and maybe get married right away, right? It’s been years since you two knew each,other,” Dad shrugged casually as if those were no big deal.

“Since you two are not ready to choose the date, I will gladly do it for you. The company’s end of the year party is in three weeks. You should get ready to be engaged in two weeks,” He dropped the bombshell, and my jaw dropped to the ground as I looked at him. I desperately wanted to tell him that I wasn’t interested in that, I wanted to tell him that I had no feelings for Hunter and therefore will not get married to him, but realising that I had no place here since he only helped me, I just kept mute

“Is that fine by you?” He looked at me and I slowly nodded even though I didn’t want this. This man only helped me and brought me to where I am today. sol should do this for him, right?

“Yes, Dad,” I forced myself to reply to him, and he nodded.

“See? It’s sorted out. So, tell me, Hunter… Do you have anything to say about this?” He looked at Hunter and asked.

“No, Sit. I’m fine with all the arrangements,” The look on Hunter’s face was evident that he was excited about this. To him, maybe nothing else mattered to him other than getting married to me even though I felt nothing for him

“Then we have an engagement party to plan,”

“Yes, Sir,” Hunter nodded, while I just stared into space, the imagination of my whole life going into ruins kept popping up in my head.

then. Come over to the house some time later in the week and let’s have lunch or dinner together as a big family…” Dad paused then turned to me and smiled, “You should bring the kids too. I haven’t seen them in a while,”

“Yes, Dad. I will bring them,”

“Alright, kids. See you around,”
