“Mommy, are you going out?” Jake, who was sitting on the bed pouted his lips as he looked up at me.

“Hmm… Why’d you ask?” I looked at him briefly from the mirror, and he frowned his face.

“I’m just going out to take a walk, darling. I won’t be long. I promise,” I walked over to him and patted his hair gently.

“Can I come with you? I heard it’s dangerous out there. I should come with you so I can protect you,” His words brought a smile to my face as I squatted in front of him and pinched his cheek.

“Mommy, are we going out tomorrow? I was wondering if we could invite uncle Xander over so we can all hang out together,” He blinked his eyes cutely

at me.

“Not tomorrow, sweetheart. Maybe some other time,” I slowly stroked his hair and smiled at him..

“He is a busy man, so you know we can’t call him out to the blue moon like that. This needs proper planning, and when that is done, we can all hang out together. What do you think?”

“Yes, Mom. That’s fine. But will we go out tomorrow?”

“Of course, darling. If I can’t make it, you can always go with Chloe, you know?”/

He shook his head and frowned his face.

“No, Mommy. I want you to come with us. You’ve been working all days of the week, so you need to take a break,”

“Thank you, darling. I will think about that. Why don’t you go to your room, hmm? Mommy is about to leave. I will be back before you know it,” I ruffled his hair before I stood up, and he did too.

“See you around, Mom. Be careful out there. Don’t forget to call me if anyone tries to bully you, okay? I will come over immediately and put them in their shoes,” His little defensive words made me smile warmly and filled my heart with the pride every Mom would feel at this moment of their life.

“Of course, sweetheart, I will do that,”

“I love you, Mommy. Bye,” He finally exited my room after I told him that I love him too.

‘I think he really loves you. Why don’t you two give this a chance again?’ I snickered briefly in excitement and covered my mouth with my hand as Chloe’s words replayed in my head. No matter how many times I thought about it, I always felt this excitement whenever it crossed my mind.

My smile slowly faded and my excitement disappeared upon realising that there was still a high chance of me getting engaged with Hunter.

“Don’t let anything get you upset now. Leave every other thing and think about what makes you happy,” I forced the thought away and smiled at my reflection as I filled my heart with thought that made me happy. Of course, it was Xander’s.

I took out some cash from my cabinet before leaying the house. I was just going to take a walk around the neighborhood, buy ice cream and lick it while getting fresh air, and after that, return home.

Minutes later, I was walking down the road with my hands tucked inside the pockets of my hoodie. The air outside was conducive and soothing, and I

was thankful that I came outside.

“Whoa! This is good,” I could not hide my excitement as I licked the cone ice cream. I realized how much I really needed this fresh air now that I was

outside.

“What is the time?” I muttered as.] dipped my hand inside my pocket in a bid to take out my phone, but the realization dawned on me that I left it at

home.

“F**k!” I cursed silently as a thick and frustrating sigh forced its way off my throat. I guess I would have to return home earlier than planned since I didn’t

have my phone with me.

About three more minutes into the walk, and my legs started to get stiffened probably by the cold or was because of the sudden slight pain I was feeling

“What’s that pain? It’s not that time of the month,” I gently rubbed my abdomen as I dragged my feet to the miraculous bench sitting at the side of the road like it had been placed there purposely for me. I really needed it at this moment.

“It’s 9th today, so why the pain?” I winced again as the pain grew even worse. I could barely feel my legs anymore, and my lower back hurt also, so I could not get up. The road was quite deserted for some reasons I could not decipher.

I sat there in pain, regretting coming out in the first place as I waited for a cab to miraculously show up so I could go home. I didn’t have my phone with me, so no way I could contact anyone.

The cold air which was soothing to my body earlier suddenly became unbearable that my teeth started to gnash and my body started to feel numb.

My body started to get weaker with every seconds that ticked until it could barely take it anymore. I was at the verge of collapsing when I heard thick footsteps approaching, so I snapped my eyes open. I could not afford to pass out in the middle of nowhere where my safety was not guaranteed. What if those bad guys rob or raped me? With that fear in my heart, I tried to keep my eyes open, but my body failed me.

“Summer… Are you ok?” Came a faint familiar voice as my eyes slowly went close and I was greeted with thick darkness…
