It felt like something was pressing me down wherever I was as I tried to open my eyes. The blurry white ceiling greeted me, along with the banging headache which didn’t fail to welcome me also.

My hand weakly found its way down my abdomen, but I didn’t feel any pain there.

“Summer… You are awake? Are you ok?” Came a familiar voice which I remembered hearing before I passed out earlier, and as I slowly tilted my head in the direction where the voice came from, a figure was towering over me with a worried expression on his face which was still blurry. “Where am I?” My voice came out weakly and in. W

“You are in the hospital. I will go get the doctor,” He turned to leave, but I held his hand and slowly shook my head.

“You are still weak. You need rest. Wait here while I go get the doctor,” He patted my shoulder gently before he left, and shortly after, he walked inside again, but this time, he wasn’t alone. My vision had cleared up a bit, and I could see the young man wearing a white coat, standing beside him. It was

obvious that he was the doctor.

“What’s wrong with me, doc?” I managed to ask as the doctor examined my body, and after he was done, he looked at me and gave me something that looked like an assuring smile.

“You were suffering from infection which caused your abdominal pain, coupled with you’ve not had good rest for a while. You’ve been given injections.

You’ll be fine by the time the IV drip finishes,” It was then my attention was drawn to the IV that was infused in my hand. I barely noticed it since I woke

up.

“Thank you,”

“You should get some rest…” The doctor paused, then turned to Hunter and patted his shoulder.

“Call me if you two need anything, and make sure she gets enough of rest,”

“Thank you, doc,” After the doc left, Hunter sat on the chair beside the bed, and held my hand worriedly.

“How are you feeling? Are you hungry? Do you want me to get you something to eat?” He placed his hand on my forehead briefly.

“Hmm. I’m fine,” I managed to nod my head.

Silence crept into the atmosphere afterwards.

“What’s the time?”

“12:40am,” A gasp tore through my throat.

“I already called Chloe and informed her about what happened. She’ll come over with the kids tomorrow, so you don’t have to worry about them. You should get some rest,” Slowly, I nodded my head and rested on the bed even though I wanted to disappear from this space. I hated to be admitted in the hospital.

“Dad… Did you tell him about what happened?” I looked at him, praying silently that he didn’t.

“No, I didn’t. There was no need to do that,” breathed out in relief.

“Thank you,” As much as I was curious to know how he found me there, a part of me told me that it didn’t matter. What will I do about it if I knew how he

“You must be hungry. The hospital’s canteen operates twenty-four hours everyday. Do you want me to get you something from there?”

I was going to say no, but my grumbling stomach got the best of

the night, and the only thing/had was the ice cream I was lickie, reminding me that I only had breakfast all day before I stepped out at that time of

“I’ll be back shortly,” He stood up to leave, but I quickly spoke up before I could

stop myself.

“Can I borrow your phone, please?” He stopped and stared at me suspiciously for a few seconds before he took it out of his pocket and handed it to me.

“Thank you,” I muttered before he left.

It’s crazy how I desperately wanted to contact Xander even though Hunter was here with me, doing his best to make sure that I’m fine. It won’t be fair on

his end.

“Forget it,” I was about to put the phone away when it beeped and a text from Instagram popped on the screen. I swear I would not have clicked on the message if it didn’t come from Xander.

‘I’ve been trying to reach Summer but could not. Have you been able to reach her? You don’t have to give me crazy attitude. I’m not asking you because I

want. I have no one else to contact. I’m worried about her. Is she fine? She’s not taking my calls’ the text, and a smile formed on my lips for no

reason.

‘It’s me, Summer. I fell ill and currently at the hospital now. I left my phone at home’ My fingers could not resist sending him a reply, so I did.

‘What! Which hospital are you at? I’ll be there right away’ His message came in again. I was about to reply to it when I heard footsteps from outside, sol quickly deleted my conversation with Xander and dropped the phone on the bed. “Come on. You don’t have to. I’m glad 1 could help,” He smiled at me, and I briefly nodded.

“Do you need anything else? Maybe juice or—”

“No, I’m fine,” I cut him off, and he nodded.

“You should get some rest. Wait for a few minutes before you lay on the bed so you won’t suffer indigestion later,” He advised, and I nodded.

“Do you want to watch movies? I feel you’ll be bored just sitting there and doing nothing,” He offered to switch on the television, but I quickly declined. My eyes were too heavy, and even if they were not I was not in the mood for that. Watching a movie was the last thing on my mind.

Hunter’s phone started to ring and I wondered who would be calling him at this time of the night. My heart s k i p p e d at the thought of the caller being Xander, but I managed to sneak a peek at the phone, and thankfully, it wasn’t him.

“I guess I’m going to spend eternity here,” I exhaled deeply. I was about to lay on the bed regardless of the risk, when the door burst open, and my jaw dropped to the ground when I looked in the direction and was welcomed by the frightened sight of Xander.

“Summer… Are you ok?” He hurried over to me, but I was too shocked to say anything. How did he find me?
