Chapter 19 

Melody mischievously typed “One night stand” in replacement of “Darling” She smiled in satisfaction after she did so. 

Just then, her phone rang, and it was from the name she had just changed. 

Melody was about to hang up, but her fumbling made her accept the phone call instead. 

She reprimanded herself as her hands did not sync with her brain before Maverick’s voice rang out. “Darling. I noticed that you’re not behaving yourself today.” 

Melody did just do something wrong,” so she felt a tad diffident. But Melody thought that Maverick was not there anyway. so he should not know what she had set his name as on her phone. 

With that, she cleared her throat and answered confidently, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” 

“Ole” The man chuckled, and his laugh could be heard over the phone as it shook her eardrums. 

“Turn your face to an angle of 45 degrees and look up.” 

Melody followed his instructions and noticed the surveillance camera above the said location. There was a blinking red light, indicating that it was working. 

Melody was, once again, speechless. 

“Is that his hobby? Stalking? Why did he set up a surveillance camera in his own room?” she thought. 

However, Melody thought that he would not be able to see the contents of her phone since the camera was so far away. With that, she heaved a sigh of relief. 

It was as if Maverick knew what she was thinking about as he ruthlessly burst her bubble before she even got a chance to remain happy. 

“There are a few hundred surveillance cameras in Cloud Mansion, and each of them could produce an image of high definition. I can see everything nice and clear with these surveillance cameras.” 

Melody was speechless at that. 

She had then confirmed that the man must have some weird hobbies. 

“Why would a mansion need hundreds of surveillance cameras? If not for stalking, then what are they for?” she wondered. 

A few minutes ago, Maverick had gone to the headquarters of Avalon located up north. lan told him that they finally found the one who had plotted against him. 

After that, he came out of the room and boarded the car to his destination. 

Avalon had tight security, and no outsiders could leave the place once they entered. 

At Tartarus, which was inside of Avalon, a man was seen sprawling after being tortured. 

lan was still interrogating, but the man had a tight lip. He would not spill anything as he endured all of lan’s tortures.

lan stepped on the man’s face. It was difficult to distinguish the man’s face as it was covered in blood.

“Oh? What a disobedient little thing we have here,” he mused. 

After that, Maverick clicked on his contact list and called the saved number in his address book. 

That was how the calling scene earlier came to be. 

At that moment, the phone call was still ongoing. 

Chapter 19 

Maverick’s teasing voice sounded again. “So, I think you should change it to ‘nightly‘ instead of just one night since we’re going to be living together from now on.” 

“So what if the surveillance cameras were high definition? I’ll make sure to take them all out one day!” she thought, frustrated 

What Melody did not know was that her wish would come true in the end, but that would be a later story to tell. Melody was angered by what he had just said. She could not even retort back, and Maverick did not say a word as well. All of a sudden, she heard the painful howl through his phone, and her heart trembled a little. 

“W–What was that sound?” 

Upon hearing that, Maverick glanced toward the man who was being electrocuted with an unhappy expression. 

Jan understood what his glance meant and immediately took a cloth, shoving it into the man’s mouth. 

The voice finally stopped, and his eyes could only widen whenever he was electrocuted. 

After confirming that the voice had vanished, only did Maverick say to Melody through the phone, “It’s nothing. Stanley’s just watching a horror movie.” 

Stanley, who was helping with the interrogation not far away, staggered a bit when he heard that. He accidentally moved his hand a little too much, and the man, who was tied to the electric bed, fainted after being electrocuted. 

Stanley was speechless, thinking why the blame was directed at him suddenly. 

Melody did not really trust what Maverick had just said since the howl sounded too real to be from a movie. 

She then thought of the scene from before when Maverick kidnapped her. There were so many men in black under him, and each of them had a gun as well. She could only shudder at the thought of that. 

“Oh… W–Well, I shall not be taking up any more of your time. I’ll take a nap.” 

Maverick noticed that something was off with her from her tone. Maybe his lies were not able to fool her this time.

“All right. Go sleep, and wait for me to come back.” 

Melody did not reply to that as she thought, “Who would wait for you?! This is your house, to begin with, so it’s up to you if 

you want to return or not.” 

She did not even say goodbye before hanging up on him. 

Maverick, who had just been hung up on, was then looking at his phone in a great mood as he smiled. 

He was always the one to hang up on others first, so that was his first time being hung up on. The feelings that he felt right then were really peculiar. 

Ian was looking at Maverick, who then had a smile plastered on his face ever since the phone call. The former was curious as to who Maverick was talking to. 

After that, lan took a pail of cold water and splashed it onto the man’s face. 

While he was waiting for the man to regain consciousness, he sneakily looked at Stanley, hoping to get some information 

from him. 

Ian just used his elbow and nudged Stanley, asking his question when Stanley looked over. “Stanny, what’s going on with Mr. Rick? Why is he smiling at his phone like that?” 

Stanley looked at the prestigious man, who was sitting at the main table when he heard the question. When he saw Maverick. keep his phone, he immediately said to lan, “Don’t ask too much. You’ll know when the time comes.” 

It seemed that lan could not get any information from Stanley. At the same time, the man who had passed out just then slowly regained consciousness as his eyes gradually opened.
