I fluttered my eyes open, only to find myself lying on my air mattress bed, still in my superhero costume, except for my purple cape. It was just lying on the floor.

How the hell did I get back here?

I slowly rose to my feet and looked into the small mirror hanging up on my wall. In it, I saw that all of my cuts on my face were completely healed.

What? How long was I out for?

I tapped the screen on my phone (that was sitting on the stool that I’m currently using as a nightstand) to check the time

It read 8:00am.

What?!?!? I was out for seventeen hours?!? sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ Find ɴøᴠel.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

(If you’re wondering how I did the math, I usually get home from school around 3pm).

Knowing that my math class is going to start in twenty minutes, I quickly threw on a ‘FRIENDS’ sweater and a pair of ripped jeans, before I grabbed my school bag and ran into the kitchen to make my lunch and breakfast.

As my white English muffin was toasting in the toaster, I quickly made a ham sandwich with mayo and put it into my lunch pal, before chucking in an apple, some Oreos, a cheese string and a small container of goldfish crackers.

Then my English muffin popped up and I spread some butter on the bread, before I packed up my bag and speed walked to school, inhaling my breakfast.

I was a couple of minutes late getting to my math class (not on purpose) and this completely ruffled my math teacher’s feathers.

For the entire first period, he put on a rude attitude only towards me. When I went up to his desk to show him my practice worksheet, he ripped it out of my hands, glanced at the paper and then gave me another sheet to do it again.

This put me in a bad mood as I walked back to my seat. Rolling my eyes, I just sat in my seat scrolling through TikTok for the remainder of the period.

After the bell rang to indicate that the first period was over, that’s when things went downhill.

On my way to my science class, my friends Caleigh and Rachel caught up to me in the crowded hallway.

“Hey Vanessa, we didn’t see you this morning; Did you get here late?” asked Rachel, walking on the right side of me.

“Yes, isn’t it obvious?” I replied, with a frustrated attitude.

“Chill V, I was just wondering”.

I stopped at the doorway into Mr. Cashol’s science classroom and turned to face her.

“Ugh!! You are always sticking your nose into other people’s business where you shouldn’t! You don’t need to know everything, Rachel”.

“Fine. Maybe I don’t sometimes; But at least I care about what’s going on in my friend’s lives” snapped back Rachel.

“Oh really? If you really did care about your friend’s lives, both of you would have gone to my uncle’s funeral and helped me study, so I wouldn’t have failed my third math quiz in a row!“.

Both Caleigh and Rachel’s eyes went wide after I had said that, realizing the stress I am under (which I only mentioned half of) and that I really needed them to be there for me.

I quickly turned on my heels and walked into Mr. Cashol’s classroom, sitting down in my usual seat (which is thankfully far away from the door).

For the rest of the school day, I avoided my friends so I could cool down from the argument and so I could try to focus on my classes.

I finished my two-page booklet on The Civil Rights Movement in American history and successfully executed the basic jazz movements, like the Cat leap and the kick ball change.

After my dance class was done, I was relieved to get home and just chill on my bed, scrolling through TikTok.

My superhero self has been trending on social media. People have been posting videos of me fighting or saving others or even a video of themselves with me in the background saving the city.

I scrolled up to the most recent video that someone posted.

It was a video of me fighting those self-driving cars and trucks. I pressed ‘play’ on the screen and watched as I tried to stop the vehicles from demolishing the city.

However, one truck hit me hard and I fell onto the middle of the road. I could see myself trying to get up, but failed and became very still, laying there on the pavement unmoving as another vehicle came zooming towards my unconscious self.

It looked like for sure I was going to die but at the last second my body flew to the side of the road and flew in the direction of my uncle’s house.

Did that really happen to me or did someone just edit the video?I thought, raising an eyebrow.

I rewind the video back a few seconds to the part where I was just about to get run over and watched it again.

It almost looks as if someone levitated me over to the sidewalk or if someone turned invisible and carried me to safety. But what if-.

“DINNER’S READY!!” called my aunt Wendy from the kitchen, interrupting my thoughts.

“Coming!” I called back, before I went into the bathroom to wash my hands.

After eating one of my aunt’s delicious homemade hamburgers and a decent slice of coconut cream pie. I got to tag along with my cousin’s and my uncle Kevin to one of my nephew’s hockey tournaments.

We drove to New Jersey to watch him play at the Invista Center, against the New Jersey Jaguars. My uncle, cousins and I sat in the front row seats in the hockey arena and cheered him on throughout the game.

And when the buzzer went off in the third period, the entire crowd (including us) who were cheering for the Watertown Dogs rose to their feet and went crazy, cheering even louder since his team just won the hockey tournament.

Once it died down, me and my extended foster family waited in the lobby for my nephew. When he came out with my brother-in-law, we congratulated him on his big win and my uncle treated him (and the rest of us) to some beavertails that my aunt made beforehand.

We all ate our cinnamon covered beavertails as we walked towards our parked vehicles, with everyone feeling cheerful and full of joy again, with the rush of excitement in our veins.
