Chapter 24

Frank stared at Maria coldly and emotionlessly, replying in a plain tone, “Relax. I’ll go with you. They’re also Nina’s parents.”

Frank’s words were like needles stabbing into Maria’s heart. She thought, ‘Yeah. I’m visiting the Greenwood family my biological father and Nina’s mother. Great. I don’t want my mom to know that I’m married now. She would be mad if she knew I married Frank.

After leaving his message, Frank strode over to the door and disappeared.

Maria stood still without knowing where Frank was going or where she should go.

Without Basil, Maria felt even more insecure here than at the Johnston Court.

She could stay in a storeroom at Johnston Court, but no place was for her in this mansion.

Thus, Maria sat stiffly in the living room, quietly waiting for Basil to wake up from his nap.

A while later, a figure walked in. Maria turned around and found an old lady with gray hair.

Maria remembered the lady. It was Chloe Dunn, a maid at this mansion.

Chloe gently said, “Mrs. Johnston, how about I take you to rest now? I’m afraid Mr. Johnston will sleep till lunch.”

Maria felt flattered by the way Chloe addressed her. She panicked and corrected, “Chloe, you can just call me Miss Greenwood.” She reflected, ‘Frank would be furious if he heard someone calling me Mrs. Johnston.”

“Mrs. Johnston, I need to follow the rules. Come with me,” Chloe said, her face showing no expression, and led the way for

Maria.

Maria followed Chloe without saying more.

The mansion comprised many bungalows, spanning a much larger area than Johnston Court. Without Chloe’s guidance, Maria would not have found a place to rest.

They walked down a peaceful path for about two minutes until they reached the end. From there, they passed through ay arched door and entered a small courtyard.

“Mrs. Johnston, please take a rest inside. I’ll come get you when lunch is ready or when Mr. Johnston wakes up.”

“Sounds good. Thank you.” Maria politely thanked Chloe and watched her leave. Then, she turned her head to survey the situation and strolled inside.

Maria had recently recovered from an illness. Before visiting Basil, she took the time to clean the storeroom, leaving her feeling exhausted. Thus, she headed to the bedroom and wanted a good nap. She did not change her clothes after she finished the cleaning. After some consideration, she took off her clothes and folded them neatly to avoid dirtying the bed.

After that, she lay in the bed and covered herself with a blanket. She closed her eyes and tried to get some sleep.

“Click.” The sound of someone opening the door suddenly arose in the quiet bedroom.

Maria instantly opened her eyes and swiftly turned her head toward the door. Her body tensed as she spotted the tall figure entering the room. She cried inside, ‘Frank! Why is he walking in?‘

Maria’s mind raced, and she quickly realized that Chloe had led her to Frank’s bedroom. She exclaimed inwardly, I’m lying on Frank’s bed!‘

Discovering she might be on Frank’s bed and recalling his dislike for her touching his things, Maria jumped out of bed in at hurry, panicking as she exclaimed, “I… I didn’t know this was your room. I’ll leave now.”  Sᴇaʀ*ᴄh the FɪndNovᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

As Maria lifted the blanket and prepared to leave the bed, she suddenly noticed she was only in her underwear. Her face immediately flushed with embarrassment.

Maria panicked and cried, “Ahh!” She hurriedly covered herself with the blanket again.

She pondered, ‘Staying in bed or getting out of it both seem like unfavorable options now!
