Her father borrowed money from loan sharks, and he was too poor to get treatment at the hospital. All this happened because she fell in love with the man standing in front of her. 

But that man never cared about her, not even for an instant. 

“You’re drunk…” 

Kendrick’s breaths turned heavier. He looked at Samantha, who was incoherent from drinking. His expression was extremely dark. 

“Kendrick, you’re such a heartless man. Samantha treated you very well. Even if you disliked her, why would you hurt her like that?” 

Recalling that night four years ago, Samantha could do nothing but shiver. 

She could never forget the sensation of the cool blade slashing across her face. She had also endured even greater pain during the surgery to remove those eight 

scars. 

She couldn’t fathom Kendrick’s cruelty. She had merely scribbled on his face, but he hired someone to slash her face eight times! 

Samantha was filled with genuine hatred. She hated Kendrick, but she hated herself even more. She hated herself for scribbling on his face as a prank. She thought she should’ve stabbed him to death instead! 

“I think you need to sober up.” 

With a piercing look, Kendrick grabbed Samantha’s arm. Samantha struggled with all her might, but she couldn’t win against Kendrick’s strength. 

“Let go of me. Let go…” 

Samantha shouted as she struggled, drawing attention from the crowd. The others had already heard noises coming from the two, but they didn’t dare come 

over. 

Kendrick decisively picked Samantha up. He then strode out of the banquet hall. 

The people who remained in the banquet hall exchanged looks. They kept guessing about the relationship between Kendrick and Samantha. 

There wasn’t another soul in the spacious bathroom. Kendrick held Samantha down with one hand while he turned on the tap with another.

Cold water splashed on Samantha’s face. It choked her so much that she started. coughing. 

With a foreboding look on his face, Kendrick pinned Samantha to the basin. Scooping up large handfuls of water, he splashed it on Samantha’s face. He was washing her face forcefully. 

The water brought Samantha’s wandering mind to a focus. Kendrick stopped a long while later, finally freeing her from the torture. 

“There are some things you shouldn’t say.” 

Kendrick released Samantha. He stared at her with an icy gaze. 

Samantha leaned on the basin, gulping air like a fish out of water. Loose strands. of hair got wet and stuck awkwardly on her face. She looked a little pitiful. 

Kendrick didn’t feel the urge to protect her at all. 

“Don’t ever mention Samantha in my presence again,” Kendrick said coldly. 

He strode out, leaving Samantha alone in the bathroom. She watched as Kendrick. left, feeling only irony in her heart. 

She thought that he must be feeling guilty. 

He had pretended to be head over heels in love. In the end, he was simply upset that she escaped his control. Four years ago, he wanted her to die in that rundown house. 

Samantha thought that perhaps Kendrick wished for the Duncan family to go bankrupt. Then, everyone would hear the news of the chairman being in paralysis. They would also catch wind that the eldest young lady was disfigured. 

A smile crept onto Samantha’s l*ps. Supporting herself against the basin, she tried her best to straighten up. She was already used to smiling in the last four years. There were too many things in her life that made her tearful. So, she persistently put on a smile as she faced them head–on. 

At the entrance of Ford Corporation, Kendrick got into the car. He had a frigid look on his face, and he stayed silent. 

To Ford Residence.” 

Observing Kendrick, Jude spoke to the driver in a low voice. Jude saw everything that happened at the banquet hall just now. He knew that Kendrick was presently in a foul mood.
