Samantha clenched her teeth in anger. The man could have caught her before she fell, but he chose to ignore her!
Although Samantha wanted to grab his attention, she never intended to resort to such a terrible method. It was easy to guess that the man beside her had something to do with her tripping.
Silently, she swore at the man.

Just then, a hand reached forward. A kind voice asked, “Are you alright, miss?” Samantha lifted her head, only to be greeted by a beautiful face.
He wasn’t flawless but all his features fit him like a glove. For an inexplicable reason, his features reminded Samantha of Kendrick. Upon closer inspection, that completely changed. Especially his burning eyes.
Samantha had seen his photo before. Yet, she was still stunned upon seeing him in person for the first time.
The man crouched down and patiently waited for Samantha’s reply.
“It’s fine. I’m alright.” Although flabbergasted, Samantha quickly came back to her senses.
She lifted the hem of her dress and stood up. The man was taken aback by her refusal. He quietly followed her back into the banquet hall.
As soon as she walked in, Kendrick’s stare cut through the crowd and landed on her. His worry finally eased when he saw her unharmed.
Samantha waved her hand to signal that she was fine. She was reluctant to mingle with the others again, so she chose to hide in a secluded corner. She nibbled on desserts and enjoyed the drinks.
“Are you alone, miss? Why don’t you be my partner?”
The person she had been waiting for approached her.
She looked up to see the man comfortably positioning himself next to her without permission. She lowered the dessert in her hands and pointed at Kendrick, who was surrounded by people.

“I came with him.” Samantha smiled gently. A ferocious glint appeared in the man’s eyes.
“I’m sure someone like you can easily find a companion,” Samantha added.
“Beautiful things are worth the wait. You were the only one who caught my eye.” The man lifted the glass Samantha had been drinking from earlier and took a sip. Wordlessly, Samantha fetched herself a new drink. She pondered on how to optimize things to be in her favor.
The longer she remained silent, the more intrigued the man became.
“Alright, then. We can still get to know each other, right? My name is Conrad Hayes.” The man broke the silence first.
Samantha turned around and met his questioning grin. With a small smile, she replied, “Sophia Meadows.”
“The famous designer? What an honor. Still, it must be hard working for Kendrick. Why don’t you work for me? Nothing is off the table for you.”
Whenever Conrad mentioned Kendrick, his face would scrunch into a scowl. It was as though he was putting his hatred for Kendrick on display.
Just as the rumors had it, Conrad loathed Kendrick. It wasn’t surprising since they were archrivals.
A calculative gleam appeared in Samantha’s eyes as she sized Conrad up. “You seem to enjoy poaching other people’s employees.”
“No, just his. There are some things he doesn’t deserve, even if he’s considered a god in Sentius City.” Conrad didn’t bother lying, but his boastful tone was slightly irritating.
This wasn’t the first time Samantha had heard someone refer to Kendrick like that. But no one had ever said it with such hatred. She was delighted.
Conrad was on par with Kendrick in terms of his family background and business capabilities. She wondered what led him to believe that he could win against. Kendrick.
“Aren’t you worried that I’ll tell him?” Samantha tested. This was her goal all along. Still, she was cautious.
Conrad burst out laughing. “Why would I go against him if I was afraid of him? Besides, wouldn’t it be more interesting for him to know who he lost against?”
Samantha thought him a strange man.

She suddenly realized that Kendrick had caught wind of what was happening and was heading toward them. She wondered how Conrad was going to react.
Samantha turned and saw Conrad lazily sprawled across the sofa. He shot Kendrick a taunting look. It was evident that Conrad never took his eye off Kendrick either.
Catching Samantha’s curious gaze, Conrad offered a name card cl*pped between his fingers.
“I have a sense that you’re going to stand beside me one day. What do you think?”
Samantha didn’t understand what he meant. She was reaching for the card when someone yanked her back forcefully. She found herself hidden behind a large figure.
