Then, he turned around and teased, “When did you get yourself a secretary? Not just one, but two at once?” 

Kendrick ignored Damien’s mocking remark. He looked toward Linda, who was standing at the back. 

“Is it serious? Do you want to go to the doctor’s?” he asked. 

Although he didn’t really believe that Linda would be bullied, it still wasn’t good news that his mentor’s daughter had gotten hurt while she was in his company. 

Kendrick frowned. 

Secretary? What happened between her and Samantha? 

From the other side of the room, Samantha heard them saying that she was involved in whatever happened. 

She looked up at Linda and gave her a smile. 

Oh, women. They always liked resorting to trickeries like these. 

Samantha didn’t even care to explain herself. When she noticed Kendrick looking over at her, she gave him a purposeful smile. 

“I’m fine,” Linda replied. When she heard Kendrick showing concern for her, she was delighted.

Kendrick was trying to figure out the reason behind Samantha’s facial expression. 

Though, when he heard Linda’s response, he simply nodded and said, “Good that you’re fine. Get your injury treated. 

“If you need to, you can take a few days off to rest before coming back to work.” 

Kendrick sounded as if he was very concerned for Linda. Even so, his reply conveyed his stance with much clarity. It didn’t seem as if he was planning to pursue the matter further. 

Damien was rather surprised by his response. 

Even if Kendrick wasn’t someone who covered up unquestioningly for others, he shouldn’t be so nonchalant about his mentor’s daughter.

Damien couldn’t help but turn his gaze toward Samantha again. 

She was still smiling as if she had nothing to do with it. 

The look in her eyes was sparkly. It gave him a huge sense of familiarity. 

Who was she? 

Damien turned back and coincidentally noticed the project proposal for Ares Corporation that was on Kendrick’s desk. 

That’s right, the look in her eyes was extremely similar to Mrs. Ford’s. 

Could it be that he was still fixated on Samantha? That’s why he was so lenient toward her and even hired her as his secretary. 

Damien tried to size Kendrick up. Linda was also doing the same. 

Linda figured that Kendrick didn’t have much more to say. She gave Samantha, who was smiling by the side, a quick glance. Then, she stormed off. 

Since Linda had left, Samantha certainly couldn’t continue on with a one–woman show. So, she also looked away and worked on her own tasks. 

“Linda has left. So, does that mean that I can be dismissed today?” 

Even though Damien was always accompanying Linda on Kendrick’s behalf, he wasn’t that chummy with her. 

Hence, he had no intention to stand up for her. 

Kendrick nodded. “Yup. About Mr. Briggs, I didn’t attend to him. Please find time to settle the matter with him,” he ordered. 

“Why are you dumping everything on me? If so, I should get a raise. Where’s Jude?” 

“He has his own work to tend to.” 

Seeing as he wasn’t able to convince Kendrick otherwise, Damien shrugged him off. He got up and approached Samantha. 

“Hi there. You are Mr. Ford’s new secretary. I’m Damien Scott. Nice to meet you.” 

Samantha had seen Damien a few times. 

She knew that he was a good friend of Kendrick’s. But back then, she never had a chance to come in contact with him.

Samantha paused for a moment. She couldn’t understand why he was suddenly interested in her.

Right when she was about to answer him, she was interrupted. 

“Get out,” Kendrick ordered in a voice as cold as the winter snow. Samantha and Damien turned to him and saw that he had a dark expression on his face. 

Damien shuddered. He ended up sneaking another look at Samantha before leaving the office unwillingly. 

Simultaneously, he was able to confirm that Samantha wasn’t just any secretary to Kendrick. 

He decided to find time to speak to Jude in order to find out about the origins of Kendrick’s new secretary. 

Samantha was amused. However, she wasn’t too interested in getting to know the people around Kendrick. 

She pretended that nothing had happened and continued working. 

“What happened between you and her?”
