She never thought she would see the vase here. Amidst her surprise, she felt nervous. Back then in this town, she had “adopted” Nathan. To ensure the authenticity of the situation, she had deliberately visited this place and staged a 

little drama. 

She couldn’t help but tighten her grip. She had left the newborn Nathan at the doorstep of the orphanage. A few days later, she returned with Francis to adopt 

Nathan. 

Samantha felt heartbroken at the memory of Nathan incessantly crying in the cradle. 

The night breeze was cold. Samantha was in thick clothing as she pushed the door 

open. 

The empty courtyard was bathed in silvery moonlight. The door nearby was opened. 

“Not afraid of thieves, huh?” Samantha muttered. 

She pulled on her clothes and decided to look for the only late–night restaurant on 

the road. 

There were not many people, and the desolate street lamps made her feel somewhat 

nostalgic. The few days she had spent here in the past felt like years. 

The only barbecue shop was sparsely filled with several couples. Samantha ordered 

some skewers with her favorite toppings and bought a bottle of carbonated drink to 

relax. 

“You’re not from around here, right? Wanna try our special flower cake?” 

The enthusiastic female owner teased while serving dishes. 

“Sure. But please don’t serve me too much as I’m afraid I won’t be able to finish.” 

Samantha nodded and smiled. 

The female boss smiled happily. It took her a while before she brought the food over. 

Unlike the cakes packaged out there, the ones here looked more delicious. After

taking a bite, Samantha fell in love with the taste. 

“Can you get me more? 

“Alright!” 

The female owner grinned from ear to ear when she heard that. 

Putting down the flower cake, Samantha decided to tackle the barbeque in front of her. As she watched the couple next to her eating affectionately, Samantha remained indifferent. Back then, there was no chance for her to have a meal out. with Kendrick. Eating alone was something she had become accustomed to. 

Suddenly, a shadow caught Samantha’s attention. Kendrick sat on a somewhat shabby chair, looking out of place in his attire. 

“Mr. Ford?” 

Samantha swallowed the food in her mouth, looking surprised. 

Kendrick, with his serious case of germophobia, would never come to a place like this. His face didn’t look too good. He wiped the table in front of him with a tissue. His expression eased only slightly afterward. 

“Regarding the contract and the dinner appointment 

Samantha wiped the oil stains from the corner of her mouth and said, “I’m hungry, 

so I came out to grab something to eat.” 

It was obvious that Kendrick couldn’t find her in her room, hence he was out there 

looking for her. 

“What’s that?” 

Kendrick never put his hands on the table. His gaze shifted to the cake that was 

placed there. 

“Flower cake,” answered Samantha. 

In a sense, Kendrick’s enjoyment of life was quite limited. 

After getting her response, Kendrick remained silent. He quietly watched as 

Samantha finished the remaining food.

Samantha picked up the remaining cakes and took a bite of the one she had just

Kendrick breathed a sigh of relief and stood up. He seemed eager to check if the 

chair was clean. 

Samantha took a bite of the cake. She found Kendrick’s actions quite amusing. Kendrick, on the other hand, pulled Samantha’s shoulder and leaned in. He took a 

bite of the cake in her hand. 

Samantha widened her eyes at his actions. His face almost touched hers. 

He could smell the faint scent of her shampoo. Kendrick’s eyes remained focused on 

her. He was attentive, and his face held a trace of a smile. 

As a germaphobe, he surprisingly straightened up and licked the corner of his l*ps. 

Samantha’s heart skipped a beat as she blushed and staggered backward. 

“Mr. Ford!” 

“Don’t you know that your smile is charming?” 

Kendrick’s hand touched the corner of her l*ps again, wiping away the cream. 

He then looked at her with satisfaction. He observed her slightly reddened earlobes. 

and her collarbone. 

“Mr. Ford, I hope you don’t do that again,” Samantha said while touching her ears. 

She tried to convince herself that this was just his way of attracting women’s 

attention, and he was not doing this solely to her. However, her heart rate was still 

increasing. 

Kendrick chuckled as he watched Samantha quicken her pace. 

Samantha hurriedly returned to the courtyard, meeting Jude on the way. 

“Ms. Meadows, where have you been?”

Samantha swiftly took the schedule from Jude’s hands and rushed into her room in 

a panic. 

Meanwhile, Kendrick returned calmly with a proud look on his face.
