2. Humiliation

BETH

I heard voices around me. I just wanted the ground to open up and swallow me. My husband walked out on me on the day of the wedding because another woman had told him that she was pregnant for him.

For how long has he been with Cara? His words kept ringing in my head, ‘I only wanted to marry you for a reason.’

‘Weak pathetic wolf!’

‘Instead of you accepting you are refusing.’

I mentally screamed as the words rang in my head.

“It must be a shame. Imagine your husband walking out on you with another who is pregnant for him.” I heard someone say.

“I expected this from the Alpha sooner or later. I mean she’s a nobody. No one knows her background. He picked her up and helped her and she chose to marry him? Pathetic. Thank goodness he saved us the shame of having an omega as our Luna.” Another remarked.

“This is amazing! What an amazing evening!” Laura, Darren’s younger sister came in front of me.

She had a proud smirk on her face. “I told you, didn’t I? My brother would never marry you. He doesn’t love you. He was only having his fun with you and you’d see that soon.”

“Thank goodness this ended as soon as it began. I thought I was going to watch him get married to you. Thank goodness. To think you thought he chose you over Cara. This has gotten to be the most humiliating moment ever and he did it better than any of us could have done it.” Darren’s mother mocked.

“You are a slave and that’s where you belong.” She added before walking away.

It hurts so much. I was lost in my thoughts and confused about what had happened. I wanted to deny what I heard because I knew he loved me but the fact Cara was pregnant and he was excited about it proved that he had always been with her.

It has always been her. Cara and Darren go way back. Everyone loved them together and looked forward to them getting married. I didn’t expect him to accept me as his mate when we found out we were each other’s mates but he did.

He chose me and left Cara. He convinced me and me and showered me with love but today I realised that it was all a lie.

I watched in a blur as people left the garden, it was already dark. I was still on the ground in pain and tears, images of what happened earlier resurfacing and haunting me.

I felt someone kick me from the beginning and I groaned in pain. A loud laugh accompanied by it. It was Laura. She has always hated me. It wasn’t new.

“Pathetic being. That’s what you get for wanting to have someone that’s not for you,” she remarked before walking away.

I didn’t know for how long I was on the ground but when I attempted to stand up, I felt pain in my ankle. The day was a disaster. It wasn’t how I imagined it to be.

How was it possible that a day that was supposed to be filled with so much joy, could end this way?

I had been kicked out of my marriage on my wedding day. I began to walk out and about into nowhere in particular.

I had said yes to a future that had broken my ankle and made me a form of ridicule in a place I didn’t realize would be my greatest nightmare.

I didn’t know where I was going but I knew that the more I walked further away from the garden, the more my heart burned with pain.

Suddenly, I heard a twig snap in the distance and I stopped moving, the pain in my legs becoming numb but heavy.

I gasped in horror as I realized that I had walked into a place that looked unfamiliar in the pack.

I searched the woods with my eyes and something caught my attention and my blood ran cold. I didn’t wait as I began to limp faster,

I knew that my heart was broken and that I was in a great deal of pain but the adrenaline flowing through me was made for me to survive and right now that was all that mattered.

It didn’t take long before their pungent smell started to fill my nostrils. How did I not notice all this while I was being followed?

That I was no longer in the Redmoom pack?

I managed to get to a clearing where the highway seemed close but the more I limped towards it, the more I could tell that the four pairs of eyes I had seen in the woods, looking at me were right behind me.

Suddenly, the road came into view but something else took hold of me.

A scent.

A scent so powerful, that I felt drawn.

No, pulled towards it.

It flooded my senses and my body wanted more.

I moved towards it as my wolf went hysterical with excitement. It didn’t make any sense.

I have heard stories of people finding scents only when their mate was close by but Darren had just jilted me, it wasn’t possible to find my mate.

I moved towards the scent and just when my wolf knew exactly where he was, I felt the pungent smell come closer to me than ever before.

I tried to escape with my twisted ankle but I ended up resisting it and hands wrapped around me as I felt something heavy hit me from behind.

Darkness welcomed me immediately but before I completely succumbed to darkness, I saw the shadow figure of someone.

ETHAN POV

“Mate”

My wolf was restless and the more restless he became, the more anxious I was.

The scent was powerful, invading my senses. My eyes scanned my surroundings and my nose led me to the side of the road.

A woman was running towards the highway from the forest. From where I was, I could feel the rate at which her heart beat for survival.

“Mate.” My wolf called again and I immediately recognized her.

Just then I saw three men behind her, chasing her. I got out of my car and made my way to rescue her. Just then the man reached her and captured her.

I felt rage inside of me. From their pungent odor, I could tell they had no pack and they were the lowest rank.

‘How dare they?’ — my wolf spoke hoarsely and I felt my claws come out and my legs began to move towards the commotion that had already begun.

“Get your filthy hands off of her! Right now!” I ordered, my hands rolling up my sleeves and exposing my veiny arms that immediately flexed.

One of the men whom I felt was the leader of their wretched group, looked me up and down with something that resembled irritation, and without thinking, I let my claws develop and I held a finger towards him in particular.

I heard the others gasp but the leader stood up challengingly and disgust made bile rise to my throat and anger simmer in my belly.

“And if we don’t?” He asked and I snarled.

“She’s such a pretty thing, I wouldn’t mind teaching her a lesson or two? ” he said and the others thought it was funny.

My wolf snapped and snarled and my legs changed to hind legs and with speed, I stretched my claws and walked past him, his throat which had been arched suddenly spilled red.

Time seemed to slow down and everyone’s laughter had suddenly died down when their leader held his throat as he gurgled blood and started to choke.

He slumped with a thud and the others gasped, moving back a little, giving me space to see that my mate was now unconscious.

My blood boiled something more.

“You laid your filthy hands on what was mine. I will be taking those fingers and I will be shoving them in your arseholes,” I slowly said, blood destroying the designer long sleeve I had been wearing.

One of them scoffed while another one tried to sneak attack me from behind.

He raised his hands high but I held him by the throat, stopping him in mid-air as I grabbed his hand, his legs kicking against the wind as I deprived him of oxygen.

I let him fall but held his hand, twisting it till his shoulder snapped.

His scream echoed through the surrounding forest and the rest shifted back.

They looked afraid when I turned and my eyes flashed red and as though realization hit them, they all simultaneously bowed their heads and got on their knees.

“Alpha king!” They chorused.

I stood tall and firm, my hands clenched and dripping with blood from their fallen comrade.

“We didn’t realize, sire!” One of them said, his voice shaking and I walked towards them.

They began to tremble.

“We didn’t realize that we stood in the presence of the legendary Alpha. The king of the west, the beast of the Dragon fire pack, the fire himself!” they said.

But I had no forgiveness in my eyes.

“You will learn and you will learn the hard way.” I snarled.

“You will learn never to touch what is mine,” I said again and they trembled as I changed into a complete wolf, attacking them, ripping their flesh from their bones.

I changed into my normal self when I heard her groan with pain, eyes still shut.

There was only one man left when I was done and his eyes were wide with horror, his mouth lacked words and sound.

My mate was in pain, I didn’t have time to deal with any more fools, he had learned a lesson today, one that he would tell his great-grandchildren to come.

I walked towards her and as gently as I could, picked her up from the floor, her gown sweeping the ground and blood flowing from somewhere.
