Chapter Twenty-seven: Playing Doctor.

Nala POV

I woke up alone, in a strange bed, this wasn't mine nor the twins nor Christian. So where did I fall asleep this time, looking around I think I slept in Stefan room after last night but he's not here. I must have fallen asleep on our way home. Trying not to feel hurt I get up and go to my room to get ready.

An outfit is already waiting for me on the bed, Kyle doing for sure. I was also dressed in one of Stefan shirt with shorts of mine. I really should work on not falling asleep like that again.

I take a shower change and then I head to Kyle's room so he can do my hair, yeah I'm being spoiled when it comes to my hair, I love having it brushed and nobody did that for me since I was eight. "Kyle where's Stefan?” I ask trying to act nonchalant.

"He got a call this morning and had to go” Kyle answer me.

"Ohh okay," I say trying to hide that I'm hurt but after yesterday I thought Stefan would be there for me in the morning when I woke up. But I guess being a doctor and all that he’s busy, I'm not hurt... Walking to the kitchen I sit and a bowl of oat is set in front of me. Yeah, not going to happen. I'm moving the mush on my plate pretending to eat.

"Eat Nala" Jace tell me noticing that I hardly touched my food.

"Not hungry” I reply

"Try and eat a little" Jace tries again

"When Stefan coming back?" I ask trying to avoid eating.

"Stefan at work baby girl" Christian informs me.

I can't help it and I pout and move my plate away giving up on pretending.

"I don't feel well I'm going to lie down" I inform the guys and leave the kitchen.

Stefan POV

It's been a busy morning one of the pack members went in to labor and I had to go and help. Being a pack doctor means I'll help everyone regardless of their need or emergencies.

I hear my phone ringing, duty calls.

"Hello"

"Stefan, what's wrong with Nala?" Christian asks going straight to the point.

"What do u mean what's wrong?" I ask not understanding.

"She's not eating, she's asking about you all morning" Christian says frustrated.

"We talked last night, we had fun and I got her home I don't know what you mean alpha”

"Ughh Stefan I know you're a busy man but do you think you can spare a few hours to spend with the baby? Christian is full of pleading with me.

"I don't want to say no, but I'm really busy today with the free clinic"

"Hey don't you use some help from the pack sometimes” Christian ask

"Yeah true”

"How about the help you today, I'll send someone from the pack to keep an eye on her." Christian offer.

"Yeah okay send her over"

I was really busy I didn't want to have time to keep an eye on Nala too, she can be a curious puppy who'll demand my whole attention. But if the alpha is calling that means she's giving them hell at home.

An hour later I had Nala and lily one of the pack mate over to help me.

It's not the first time lily help, so she knows what she's doing at least that's a relief. She can task Nala with smaller things while keeping an eye on her plus she’s a nice girl I'm sure those two will become fast friends.

I charge the girls with taking information and vital signs of the patient before sending them in, easy straight to the point and I'm sure Lily appreciates the help.

Nala POV

When Christian said I get to help Stefan in the clinic and spend the day with him I was thrilled, I was missing him all day and if I get to help then that's a plus.

I and another girl named Lily who turned out to be super nice, she's even going to nursing school and love to help people. We spent our morning taking info and vital signs she taught me how to take fever and BP correctly, and what's normal for a wolf and what's not since wolf have a faster heartbeat and higher temperature.

"So what do you want to be when you're older," Lily asks me.

"I don't know I never thought about it" I answer.

"Really? You never dreamt about being a doctor or an astronaut when you were little?" she says in a taunting tone.

I wasn't super comfortable with this topic so I just shrugged of course I dreamt about what I wanted to be, but my dreams were crushed.

"Come on pleaasssseeee Nala....you can tell me what did u want to be? Something embarrassing?" she pleads.

Again I just shrugged

"Okay I'll start I wanted to be a pilot then I changed my mind and wanted to become a model I'd even steal my mum heels and do catwalks around the house, until one day I fell on the stairs while wearing those damned heels, I broke my arm and Dr. Stefan took care of me that day so I decided I want to be just like him so here I am a nursing student,” Lily told me her version. "Wow, that's a story...l..I wanted to be a designer...I always loved colors" I confess

"Yeah that's cool, you still want that?" Lily says genuinely.

I remembered my old room, my sketches scattered all over, how much I loved dressing up. And I remembered when they tear them all off, how they ripped my designs and dreams.

"Hey all, you still with us? You seemed to be a thousand miles away" Lily ask nudging my shoulder. "Yeah yeah I'm here and no I don't want that anymore, I don't want anything”

Before lily could reply Stefan called me in, he just finished with his final patient.

"Thank you for your help today baby girl," Stefan says giving me a quick hug.

"You're welcome I never knew you helped this much people”

"Princess, why were you made this morning?" Stefan asks, damn it how did he know.

I don't say anything just stand there quietly waiting for him to forget about it.

"Baby you can tell me anything. You got mad cause I had work?" He asks concluding.

I just node.

"Ohh babyyy...I can try and spend less time in the clinic, make more time for you. I promise I want to spend time with you" Stefan says quickly trying to assure me we'll have time together.

"I don't want you to spend less time here, you are helping people and I'm so proud of you for that" Stefan's eyes are full of tears now, saying "oh baby you don't know how much these words mean for me"

"Stefan, what happened to your mate the one before me?" I ask in a hushed voice, the way he's trying to promise me more time, the fact that he’s willing to spend less time helping people while that's all he ever wanted to do it made me curious about what happened before.

"Nala my first mate....she...she cheated on me cause I didn't give her enough time.

She was happy that I was a doctor since she could show off that her mate is someone important. But the fact that I had to help people and help the poor she didn't appreciate that. I came home one night early, I wanted to surprise her with flower and an evening of just the two of us, I came home and found her with another guy in our bed.

I couldn't kill her or him, it's my job to save people not kill them so I just kicked them both out" "Ohh daddy I'm so sorry, I don't want you to spend less time here, I want to come and help you if you don't mind"

"Really baby that what you want?"

I nod and am rewarded with the biggest smile ever, I don't think I ever saw Stefan as happy as now.
