I am seated on the carpet beating my head over a business plan, I have been on this for the past two hours and nothing seems to be making sense. After my lengthy conversation with VK I decided to get myself busy with drawing up something, not because I am impatient but I just don’t want him to be giving me allowances for a long time. Already his children think I am with him for the money so I better prove myself.

I pour the last of the wine in my glass before throwing a strawberry in my mouth, honestly berries are overrated – I haven’t tasted one that tastes as good as they look and each time I keep getting disappointed if anything I will stick to the common fruits I know.

‘Lunch is ready.’ The help says

‘Alright thank you.’ I respond sighing hard

VK went on a business trip yesterday, I drove him to the airport and when I came to drop his car off I decided to stay over. There was nothing I was rushing for at home and besides this place makes me feel closer to him.

I walk to the kitchen and dish out for myself, the help has been doing everything for me as per the rules VK gave her but I insisted I can dish my own food and some other things that I can do. She has prepared vegetable fried rice, chicken wings and kachumbari.

‘I wanted to find out what I should prepare for dinner.’ She says before I can walk out of the kitchen

‘Leave that to me, when I get hungry I will cook.’

‘But Mr. Kaluba.’

‘I know what Mr. Kaluba said, but it’s just me so don’t worry.’ I respond with a smile

She doesn’t look pleased even though I have given her one of my best smiles, she rarely talks to me or even sit around in places where I am in when around and I can only guess that she is either afraid of me or VK gave her the rules.

I go back to the living room and sit back in the floor, I haven’t been watching much movies so I decide to catch up on chopped on food network as I eat.

I am way too deep in the show when a notification pops up, it’s from Nelson.

‘Hey, I was hoping to get dinner this evening.’

I look at the message for a split second before putting the phone down.

‘I know you have seen my message because I don’t know anyone that spends much time on their phone as much as they do.’ Another one reads, coming a few minutes after the first one.

I sigh deeply and again put my phone down, Nelson is a bowl of rubbish. I honestly don’t understand why he keeps coming back to me when he has Vaughn in his life.

Instead I decide to call Moudy.

‘Hey you.’ I say immediately she picks up

‘You sound excited, are you drunk?’

I laugh, that is funny.

‘Of course I am not drunk, who gets drunk this time of the day.’

‘Well if I was unemployed like you I would be somewhere in a bar right now doing shots and shisha.’

I laugh again, I don’t know why I never saw this side of her earlier. Or maybe it’s because everyone that was connected to the Kalubas was not my favourite before VK.

‘What are you doing right now? Let me take you out.’ I tell her

‘Nice, what should I wear.’

To be honest I don’t even have a place in mind where I want to take her but then it sounds like a good idea stepping out.

‘Dress up, I am coming.’ I say dropping the line

I go to the bedroom and take a quick shower then settle into a white body hugging dress that is just above my knees, clear slippers on my feet and let my hair fall. I feel really pretty and I know I actually look the part.

Instead of driving my car I get one of VK’s cars, I love that he too loves big cars and I always enjoy driving them.

I don’t drive into their house, I call her when I get to the gate and she meets me minutes later.

‘I thought you were joking when you said you are coming.’ She says giving me a hug immediately she gets into the car

‘You smell amazing.’

‘I will hook you up with perfume guy.’

‘Perfume guy really?’

‘You need a guy for everything.’

I laugh before starting the car, I am shocked we are talking like this when it’s the first time we are hanging out like this.

‘You have a good sense of fashion by the way, somehow everything you wear looks good on you.’ She tells me

‘Thank you, my dad says I got it from my late mum.’

‘She must have been diva.’ She teases

‘She was, I don’t remember any time I saw her not dressed to perfection. Sometimes I wondered if she ever got tired.’

‘Of dressing up?’

I nod my head as I turn and park in front of roan and sable.

‘I don’t think I would get tired of dressing up.’

‘For me it just rubbed off I guess, maybe that is how she felt because honestly it just comes off as natural. When I was dating Nelson, he would complain about how he felt I was a fake.’

I chuckle after saying that

‘I never liked that one, he has always been a douche bag.’

‘What do you mean?’

‘The time he was dating Vaughn, they would come home together and pretend like everything was fine.’

‘Come home together?’ Sᴇaʀ*ᴄh the FindNøvᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

‘Yes.’

‘How many times did they come home together?’

‘A couple of times, they were together close to eight months before he finally proposed.’

I have heard what she has said but I don’t know if I believe her.

‘Eight months?’

‘You should know this because you guys were no longer together not so?’

I don’t respond

‘Don’t tell me he was cheating on you with her.’

We find a spot and sit.

‘You seriously didn’t know he was cheating on you? Because I thought you were no longer together. I think Vaughn thought so too, or she didn’t. I don’t know.’

‘Then how come VK didn’t know about me and him?’

‘Not even Samara knows, they should have hidden that from them.’

‘But it doesn’t make sense, why would Nelson hide a relationship for eight months? Why didn’t he break up with me before that?’

‘I have always felt he was with her for the money, but now more than ever I suspect those two are meant for each other.’

I didn’t even plan on drinking but then I decide to order a dry wine and some beef kebabs, she orders a mojito and some wings. This whole conversation has just made me sick to my stomach, what else don’t I know about Nelson because this is just bad.

‘But his father seems like a cool person.’

I raise an eyebrow, Nelson’s father is dead.

‘Father?’

‘Yes, he came home once on Samara’s birthday.’

I take my glass and drink from it rapidly downing all the wine.

‘Take it easy on the wine.’

‘Moudy you are telling me that Nelson has a father?’

‘From what I know yes, but he couldn’t make it for the wedding because he was out of the country.’

I feel like we are talking about two different people because the Nelson I know doesn’t have a father, neither could he have dated someone else behind my back for eight months.

‘I always wondered if what he said was true though, you wanting to kill him after telling you that the man that raised you wasn’t your biological father.’

I look at her at a loss of words, how does Nelson know about my parentage.

I get my phone out of my pocket and text him.

‘Who are you?’

‘I guess it’s high time we had an honest conversation, I am sending you a location. Come over.’
