I don’t know how I do it but I manage to put myself together until I drop Moudy home, before going to the location that Nelson sent I decide to call VK and hear what his opinion is but his number goes unanswered a couple of times until I finally give up.

I have a few other options, I could call dad and tell him what is happening but then that would mean me opening up about my findings about not being his biological daughter or I could call aunt Ivy but then our last conversation didn’t go very well. When I have thoroughly gone through the two options and convinced myself that none of them are a better choice I call uncle Mphatso, he always knows what to at the end of the day.

‘If it isn’t my favorite girl.’ He says and I smile to myself.

‘Are you okay?’ He asks after much silence

‘I think I am.’ I respond shrugging my shoulders as if he is seeing me

‘Talk to me.’

‘I don’t know where to start.’

‘Anywhere you are comfortable with, you know I have all the time in the world.’

‘Okay.’ I say sighing hard

He is quietly waiting for me to speak up.

‘I don’t think Nelson is who I thought he was.’

‘Go on.’

‘It’s a whole mess uncle and I don’t know what to believe anymore.’

‘Where are you right?’

‘Roan and Sable, I was having lunch with someone.’

‘VK?’

I chuckle

‘No not him.’

‘How is he by the way?’

‘He is fine, he has been out of the country this whole week.’

‘I see and is he treating you well?’

I smile, of course VK is treating me well.

‘I can feel the smile up to here.’

‘Come on uncle, but honestly we need to link up because this issue with Nelson is draining me and I just need someone I can talk to and have a nonjudgmental conversation.’

‘When do you want to meet? We could do lunch.’

‘I will call you tomorrow, let me just see him.’

‘Alright take care of yourself.’

‘You too.’ I say before the line drops dead

I finally drive away from Moudy’s place, all the wine I drunk has worn out of my system. Today was supposed to go in a whole different direction but then it’s just been a whole mess. After driving around in circles for close to an hour I decide to call Nelson, the location he has given me keeps taking me in circles. His line is out of coverage, why in God’s name would he give me a location and ask me to meet him when he is a chicken after all.

I still have questions but tonight has been long so I decide to go back to VK’s place.

I have just put some pills in my mouth, the way he is staring at me is scaring me – he has always scared me.

‘So what was your genius plan? You thought you could just ask her to come here and everything would play out in your favor?’

‘She was already on her way here, we would have done this now and hit Chisoni where it hurts the most.’

He shakes his head

‘You don’t learn don’t you?’

‘This is my life we are talking about here.’ I say angrily

‘I understand you have scores to settle but then it is from a selfish point of view, you have no idea the amount pain I have had to endure all these years. All you have is a glimpse of it all but if there is someone that should be hungry for revenge it is I!’

‘And you think you would have been where you are right now if it wasn’t for me? You think you would have survived had I not intervened? You have always been a bastard Nelson! I gave you a life and you owe me everything you are today.’

I swallow hard.

I scratch my head until it starts to hurt, I remember everything from my childhood. I was still very young when a lady almost took me away from the orphanage, I never used to talk much but somehow I connected with her. I was adopted and things started to look bright until I learnt about my parentage. I have been bitter my whole life and with each breath I have taken I have just wanted to take revenge and ruin the man who made my life a living hell.
