Chapter 9

The next few days are the busiest for me, I have been mighty busy that I haven’t even realized how many days have gone by. Just when I thought that this would be one of those vacations where I would be resting, here I am laying in my bed after days of hard work with a sore body.

I smile when I see dad’s text, he says he misses me and he can’t wait for me to get back home as he has a surprise for me. I know he is genuinely worried about me and how I am dealing with this whole Nelson fiasco but then a part of him is happy that I am away from everything that would be reminding me of him.

I have done my work diligently here, sent reports to VK every other day even though I haven’t seen him after the first night we got here. At first I was guilty that maybe it’s because of the way I had behaved that he had started avoiding me but then remembered that he is my boss after all and he is just doing his job.

Tonight being my last night here, I have decided to go out and have my dinner from the restaurant. Eating from the room is quite lonely but then has been working in my favor because I have been working and having meals.

After bathing, I settle for a red satin dress, it has an opening at the back until where my bum starts exposing my infinity tattoo. In the sides it is all lace to the bottom, it makes a V shape in front exposing my cleavage. When I bought this dress, I had made plans of wearing it for Nelson on one of our dinner dates but since it is just me I might as well enjoy the night alone. I go all out and wear my makeup professionally, comb my hair into a neat bun a finish off the look with silver stilettos and a matching clutch.

I look at myself in the mirror when done and I smile at myself, God I look so good I take a few selfies. Just before I can walk out the gentleman that has been assigned to my room comes to ask if I will be having dinner from my room, from the way he looks at me I can tell that he his out of words with how I look so I ask him to take photos of me before I can step out. I face the balcony and tell him to capture only my back, after a few tries and errors he finally gets it right and I post on my whatsapp statues before going offline. It is actually the first time I am posting anything since the day I found out about Nelson, I know he will see this but that is the least of my worries. I am in a happy place tonight and I won’t let anyone or anything ruin that.

I walk out of the room to the restaurant, it is packed so I walk to the pool area. The way people are looking at me makes me walk even more confidently, tonight will be just about me.

‘Good evening ma’am.’ A waiter says coming to my table immediately I take a seat

‘Good evening.’ I respond with a smile

When he walks away I take the time to admire the place, the Kariba looks really beautiful in the night. It looks peaceful and so calm, I have been so busy with work that I haven’t taken time to really admire it I almost get teary.

‘Can I join you?’ VK asks

I am shocked to see him, he is dressed in a fitting black tuxedo and a crispy white shirt. VK really looks good for his age.

‘Sure.’ I manage to say

I don’t even know at what point he ordered his whisky because when the waiter shows up he has my wine and his drink.

‘Thank you.’ I say after he pulls a glass for me and walks away

‘You look really beautiful Kasweka.’

‘You don’t look so bad yourself VK.’

‘Can I ask for a favor?’

‘Shoot.’ Though I am not sure about what will come out of his mouth

‘Just for this evening, can we pretend like we are strangers? Like we just met for the first time nd trying to know each other? Not work mates?’

‘Boss and employee you mean.’

‘Yes that.’

‘I can try.’ I respond

‘Awesome.’

I am not sure this is a good idea but then again tonight I didn’t want anything to do with work, I just want to enjoy my last night here and pretend like it will last forever.’

‘What is your greatest fantasy?’ he asks out of the blues

‘A tour of the world with the love of my life, get enough massages and photos for memories, drink enough wine and have a lot of sex.’ I say not once leaving his face

‘And yours?’

‘To have someone to call mine, spoil her, love her and share everything with her. I am all grown up and don’t have a lot of energy so that is as much as I can give.’

‘Do you ever think of settling down?’

He takes a sip of his whisky before responding.

‘I do, except there is much at stake and it isn’t something that makes my blood run anymore. At my age I can’t be having women drama, Vaughn and Samara give me enough of those.’

‘I see.’

‘Yeah, so what are your plans now? I know this is a sensitive topic but now that Nelson is out of your life, what will you do.’

I am about to respond when Meddy’s My Vow plays and my eyes just become teary, this was supposed to be my wedding song with Nelson and as if noticing my reaction, VK holds out his hand and we both stand and dance to the song. His hand on my back and God knows I shouldn’t be feeling this but everything in me yearns of his touch and as he innocently rubs my back I lay my head on his neck and enjoy the moment.
