Chapter 12

Jake

The mission isn’t even a mission we’re simply going to pick up a shipment of holy water something Mich could have easily done on his own. But he just wants to be an ass and if it wasn’t for Alice being between us I would have murdered him by now. Maybe that’s why she squeeze herself between us. Maybe she could sense my animosity and that’s why she opted to sit here. Either way, she’s the only thing keeping me from ripping Micah’s throat out.

“So Jake I see you’ve been very clingy to that thing lately.” Angelique sighs.

“She has a name and I’ve always been close to her. I know her since we were children. We grew up together until Libra took her away.”

“Mmmhh.” She hums turning away from me looking bored.

I roll my eyes just ready for this trip to be over. I glance out the window I’m sitting by, but nothing can take my mind off Enjeru. She’s suffering so much and I just wish I could help her escape it all. I have to get her out of here even if it means forfeiting my own freedom instead. The car lurches forward causing all of us to slam into our seatbelts.

“What the hell why did you stop like that Colin?!?!?!” Micah yells.

He doesn’t answer and I can smell something familiar.

“Get out of the car now.”

“Why Jake because….”

“LISTEN AND GET OUT OF THE FUCKING CAR NOW!!!!”

Everybody hops out no arguments and just as we turn around the car is crushed. Floating above the mess is Jezebeth. She sits patiently as if waiting for all attention to be on her.

“Why are you here Jezebeth?” I growl.

“Watch yourself, Jakob, I would hate to have to leave a mark on that handsome face of yours. Besides someone ranked as high as myself has no reason to answer to the likes of you.”

“Jake what the fuck are you doing?!?!?! What we’re just having conversations with every demon we see?”

“Shut up Micah you don’t know what you’re dealing with.”

“Shut up SHUT UP!!! WHO ARE YOU TALKING TO JAKE!!!”

I turn looking from Micah to Jezebeth and it all clicks. Micah’s increase in cruelty and anger. It’s her it’s all her.

“You’re the one causing all this aren’t you?”

“Well who else would, Jake it is my job after all. Take the anger of humans and make it spread like wildfire. It just so happens one of your little friends had quite the large build-up. So it wasn’t hard controlling him. Jealousy can lead the human heart to do so many nasty things.”

“You fucking BITCH!!!!”

“Now you’ve gone too far Jake.” She laughs.

“Valequal!” She growls and I fall to my knees.

everyone looks at me confused, but I can’t move she’s forcing me into submission right now and I can’t fight it.

“Get up Jake what the hell are you doing?!?!?!?!”

“He can’t speak right now because he has no right to.”

“What the fuck are you talking about lady?!?!” Micah screams.

“Oh, how little they really teach you Libra scum. Well if you must know I’m ranked higher than Jakob here in Hell, therefore, I can use my authority to control him. He can’t move a cm without me allowing it right now.”

“Bullshit.”

“Mmmhh Jakob why don’t we do a little demonstration. I’m going to tell you to kill everyone but you’re loud mouth friend for now okay!” She cheers.

“Ops almost forgot you may answer.”

“Yes my lord.”

“Good boy now run along and do as you’re told.”

I want to fight this so badly, but it’s out of my hands at this point. I squeeze my eyes shut focusing on Enjeru trying to will her here, but even if she gets here it will already be too late.

Enejru

I haven’t moved since I was dragged into the hallway. I’m scared that if I do they’ll come back. I just wanted to be left alone, but that fucker Micah is just so entertained by my suffering. He enjoys seeing me like this. And poor Jake he just wants to help, but he’s making everything worse.

I’m thankful for him trying, but we can’t be friends at least not while we’re both here. I sigh knowing he’ll be back later tonight to comfort me. That’s what he does every night now. He visits my room when everyone else is asleep. We talk mostly but sometimes we just lay on the floor together eyes closed and breathing. And it reminds me of those days we spent as children running through open fields, causing trouble, and just living life. It was a simpler time then much simpler.

“Enjeru please help.”

My head snaps around looking for a body that the voice could belong to but the hallway is empty.

“Enjeru I’m going to do something really bad. I need you to stop me.”

“Jake? Jake is that you?” I whisper.

“Enjeru please before I kill them. Please I don’t want to do this…stop me…….”

“Jake where are you?!?!?!” I shout not knowing how else to react.

Silence fills the hallway again, but I there’s nothing. I feel compelled to go to Jake. I can’t let him go through what I’m going through. He’s to good of a person to live through this hell I’m in. I push myself up deciding I’m going to go save Jake from himself.
