17. Confessions Part 2

"Okay so i'm originally from Miami, I think you already knew that since word travels fast at school. " I began.

"Yeah, Jake told me " Mason replied nodding for me to go on.

"Okay so there was this guy from Chemistry who was sorta my friend. I trusted him and I was at a vulnerable moment and I accidentally told him my secret. He didn't seem to believe me, well there was a 50% chance that he did because what happened next proved it. " I paused to go get some water for myself and a Coke for Mason before continuing.

He sat there looking at me expectantly so I continued.

"So this guy who I told, his name is Jason by the way. Jason happened to be the son of a Geneticist at John Hopkins. Jason told him about me, well he didn't say my name but he asked his dad if it were possible for someone to read people's mind and somehow his dad found out it was me. He sent someone to kidnapp me and...." I took a deep breath.

"...it happened on my front porch. I was on my way to school and the next thing I know, this guy comes from no where with a rag covered in some thing because I passed out. The next thing I know, i'm in a room with plain white walls strapped to a bed. It sorta looked like an asylum. I screamed out but I didn't see anyone come in the room. It took a couple more minutes of me freaking out before three nerdy looking men came in wearing white coats. They did all sorts of tests on me. Hooked me up to this machine that showed my brain activity, they took lots of blood, poked around in my eyes......it was horrible Mason." I explained. I didn't know that I had begun crying when Mason wiped something from my cheek and I noticed the liquid on is fingers.

"I'm really sorry you had to go through that El." He whispered, a pained expression across his face.

I drank some water before continuing.

"One night, Jason came in the room alone and told me that he was going to help escape. Honestly. I did not want to be a lab rat anymore so even though I didn't trust him 100% I followed him after he unstrapped me from the bed. I escaped and the first place I went to, were my Gran's house. She immediately packed by bag and told Kalina and I to leave state. We left but had to stop at a hospital in Georgia because I had gotten sick. I mean I expected it because of all the things they did to me at the medical center. That's what they call it anyway. I call it hellhole. Shortly after we went on a plane and came straight to Manhattan." I concluded.

"So what's been freaking you out lately?" He questioned caringly.

"Well, I got a call from Shira, my best friend. She told me that there had been girls missing there in each high school and they all looked like me." I paused.

"The reason behind that is that they hired this agency filled with undercover spies and sent them to each high school in every state, looking for me." I looked down taking deep breaths trying to compose myself before continuing.

"I think one of them goes to our school but I can't seem to figure out who it is. It could be anyone." I said grabbing his hand.

"Is that why you tried hitting me with the bat last night? You thought I was the spy?" He asked clearly amused.

"Its not funny Mason. I had every right to think that. It was hard enough for me as it is. " I exclaimed.

"But El, it wouldnt be anyone you know. You said that they hired someone from their agency to go undercover. So it can't be someone who has been here before you came along. Its someone who came after. Someone new at the school." He reasoned with me.

Well that makes sense. Now I feel stupid.

"Okay so I just need to find out who it is and keep my guard up because I am not leaving here." I sighed.

"Elena, don't say 'I' .You're not in this alone. I'm with you. We'll find out who it is and we'll keep our guard up." He said holding my hands in his.

I felt my heart melt at his words. He's really here for me and I couldn't be any more happier.

"My name isn't Elena. Its Xayla. I changed my name when I came here." I confessed.

I wrapped my arms around his torso and stayed there. My insides feeling warm and tingly.

Later i'll figure out my emotions towards him.
