It feels as though we have been hiking all day. My feet are starting to ache a bit and I’m on the verge of speaking up when Baraqiel suggests stopping and eating some lunch. “Stars above! Thank you,” I say as I find a dry fallen log to sit on. “What amazing food did you bring for us ‘B’?” I ask as I begin to rummage through my bag.

He shakes his head. “Sadly, nothing as well prepared as the dinner I made last night. You should find some dried fruits, nuts, berries, power bars and bottles of water. That should tide us over until we return to the base, and I’ll be able to whip up more delightful food then.” I scrunch my nose in disappointment, but I understand why we’re not having a three-course meal, lighter the load to carry as we trek across God’s earth.

We sit amicably silent as we ear the food and once done, we clean up our mess and begin our journey onward. S~ᴇaʀᴄh the (ꜰind)ɴʘvel.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Glancing at the watch on my wrist I see that we have walked another five hours since having had lunch. My calf muscles feel like they are bunching together, hitting against every nerve in my body and the energy I had a few hours ago is quickly depleting. Thankfully Turiel suggest we call it a day and draw up a portal so that we can head back to home base. Even better than Turiel suggesting this is the fact that Baraqiel agrees with him and moments later a purple-blue shimmering watery looking circle appears, and we step through it.

Heaving my bag into a corner of the kitchen as the portal closes behind us, I look around the room to see if I see any signs of the others having returned yet. With no sign of the others having returned I decide to go up to my room and take a shower. Once cleaned off, I step from out of the tub, grabbing a large body towel wrapping it around me, tucking it in one corner so that it won’t fall off my body. Picking up a smaller towel, I bind it around my head to soak up the water in my hair. Padding into the bedroom area, I sort through my clothing until I find an oversized pink hoodie and pull it over my head after removing the towel. Slipping into a pair of black panties, I pick up the grey sweatpants I had pulled out to wear too and climb into them. Just as I drape the towels I had used over the back of a chair a knock can be heard at my door.

“Cassiel, you in there?” I hear Dan ask from the other side. His voice causes a smile to form on my lips and I bound over to the door, swinging it open, my eyes locking with his.

“Hey, did you guys just get back?” He nods and I step aside so that he can enter the room. Together we walk over to the bed. As I sit on one section, letting my left leg dangle over the edge, Daniel sits for a second before letting himself fall back on the mattress with a sigh. “I take it you lot didn’t fare much better than we did, meaning not at all...” Dan turns his head to look in my direction before shaking his head no.

“And I’m exhausted. Trekking through the wilderness in hopes of finding an element that may or may not exist isn’t my idea of a fun time.”

“Agreed,” I say before moving closer to him. “So... what IS your idea of fun, hmm?” I grin at him widely before leaning over him and kissing him firmly on the lips. Maneuvering myself so that I have a leg on either side of his waist as he is still lying on my bed, I feel him running a hand up my back before his fingers tangle into my damp hair. Just as he flips us over there’s a knock at my door.

“Yo, Cass, you in there?” The door flies open before I have a chance to respond, and I hear Ananiel squeal an ‘eww’. “I’m hungry, get yourself presentable and let’s go into the town and pick up some food!”

“Isn’t Baraqiel working on making dinner for us now?” I ask confused because he had mentioned something about it before we had come through the portal.

Ana shakes her head no. “Zad and ‘B’ are in a room with the door closed in a heated discussion. And because of the volume in which they are arguing with one another, I’m going to say it’s safe to assume that there won’t be food ready to eat anytime soon.” As she talks Dan has moved and is sitting on the edge of the bed and I am sitting upright so that I’m able to see her.

“Have you asked Turiel if he wants to tag along too?” I question her and then turn my gaze to Dan. “Are you coming with us?” Nodding his head yes, he stands up and says he’s dashing off to his room to change into some fresh clothes and that he will meet us downstairs. Ana and I leave my room and walk towards Turiel’s to see if he wants to join us. Getting confirmation from him that he will go with us, Ananiel and I go down into the kitchen to wait for the boys.

We leave the house a few minutes later and hop into the rental vehicle our legion had procured for us. Grey cushioned seats welcome us as we plop and flop onto them. Since Turiel is the only one who has had experience in driving human vehicles, he claims the driver’s seat and then after we have all buckled ourselves in, he backs out of the driveway and heads toward the village of Queenston. As we come into the village we collectively see and agree on a place called The Farmhouse Café. Piling out of the van, we quickly make our way inside and find a pleasantly calm atmosphere about the place.

After being seated we all peruse the menu. The waitress comes over to see if we are ready to order and we let her know what we want to eat. Since we’ll have to wait for the food to arrive, I decide to make a quick run to the restroom.
