5. Azael

I am intrigued as I look over the file of the youngest Mashhit connected to the quest of the element Astatine. The archdemon and commander in charge, Asmodeus has informed me that while he, Belial, Caim, Lix Tetrax, and Ornias were “out in the field” so to speak, even though I would be a part of the unit, I was given the task to lure one of the angels to our side. Glancing at the two images within the file I held in my hand, I look at the two names; Ananiel and Cassiel. Reading the details about the both of them, their likes, dislikes, and things they do to entertain themselves, I feel that I would have an easier time swaying the one named Cassiel. She is freshly 18, young and impressionable. This was in case the angels located the Astatine first; I would easily be able to convince her to bring it to the Fallen Angels.

Asmodeus was told where the angels would be setting up their home base to work out of while they were searching for the rare element. So, he in turn acquired a small house for me to work out of across the street from their house. Essentially, I am doing a stakeout so when I see four of them pile into a van, I rush out to my rental car at once and follow suit. Not wanting to get too close behind them as I don’t want to be noticed, I try to stay about two car lengths away from them as we drive. Right around the 15-minute mark, they pulled into a parking spot and then put their vehicle into park. After the van is immobile, I watch them all hop out and go into some café. Having been told to blend in and look like a human, I make sure my white cotton tee shirt is smoothed out and tucked into the waist band of my shredded jeans. After I make sure I’m presentable, I glance in the rear-view mirror to make sure the contacts I had been given were set in my eyes properly. Without them my eyes would be a dead giveaway to the angels that I am a Fallen. The golden hue seems to sparkle as the streetlamp shines into the car. I wait a few minutes and then walk in myself. Spotting them sitting in a booth, I make my way over to the bar/counter and take a seat. With my back to them it’s a bit hard to observe their movements and whatnot so I turn in my seat pretending something on the television near their booth has caught my attention so that I can more easily keep them in my line of sight. Currently I’ve only a few dollars in my pocket so when the waitress came up to me, I just asked for a cup of coffee. When the waitress sits the hot mug in front of me, I lift my spoon to stir in some sugar. It’s pure coincidence that I accidentally dropped the silverware causing it to fall to the floor just as Cassiel happens by. Sliding off the stool with the intention to pick the spoon up, I misstep and bump into her. “My apologies,” I say as I place a hand against her arm as I say I’m sorry. My eyes drift towards her face before connecting with her beautiful ocean-blue eyes. I’ve never immediately felt anything with another soul before like I just did when gazing at her. There is something uniquely divine about her soul. Tilting my head in curiosity I can’t help but continue to stare at her.

“Oh, are you okay?” She gasped, her face flushing red in embarrassment because she thought she had caused my stumble. I grin. She is quite adorable and then I wonder what in the world is wrong with me. I don’t swoon over beings, immortal or otherwise. They become smitten with me and the allure I have wafting around me.

Remembering that she had asked me a question I shake my head trying to reel in my thoughts. “What? Yeah, no. I’m fine. It was my fault completely. I lost my footing when I,” bending over I pick up my spoon; “when I went to pick this up.” I grin again as I wave the utensil in front of her. Knowing my grin can be quite infectious, I let the smile into my eyes, causing them to twinkle a little as I once more turn my eyes to hers. Cassiel of course can’t help but return the smile but once she realizes she is staring instead of just gazing at me, she shifts her eyes sideways looking over my right shoulder.

“Well, if you’re all right then, I’m going to continue on my way to the restroom,” she says as she tips her head forward to indicate where she was headed. Cassiel starts to walk before stopping suddenly turning back to me she says, “My name’s Cassiel, but my friends call me Cass. Maybe I’ll see you around.” She then turns away from me and continues walking down the hallway before stopping and walking through a door leading into the restroom. As it stands now, it will be wicked easy for me to seduce her because I’ve got one thing going for me and that is that she’s already showing interest in getting to know me.

Turning my attention back to the mounted television, I “focus” on the news program that’s running all the while listening to the angels in the booth talk about their failed attempt to fine the Astatine. I’m listening so keenly that I’m taken by surprise when suddenly someone is tapping my shoulder. Twisting myself on the stool, I have the pleasure of gazing into Cassiel’s beautiful eyes once more. “Hey, nice to see you again...” I manage to say while trying to keep a stoic expression upon my face instead of the stupid grin that’s trying to make its way across my lips.

“I didn’t get your name earlier, just thought I’d see if you wouldn’t mind sharing it with me?” As she says this, the stupid grin that I’m failing to keep at bay, I see it spreading across her face.

“Apologies,” I say as I stick my right hand out towards hers. “My name is Aza, nice to meet you, Cass.” She shakes my hand, and I can’t help but notice how silky soft her palm feels against my skin. I catch myself just before I groan out loud for how nice it feels as her hand glides delicately along mine. Before we can chat any further, I hear her ‘friends’ yelling for her to get her butt over to their table as their food had just arrived. Turning back to the counter, I pick up my cup of coffee and sip on it a couple of times as I listened intensely to the conversation the closest male angel was trying to have with Cassiel after she went back over to their table and sat down. A cocky smirk took hold of my mouth and I decided to ask the waitress that was passing by me if I could get a piece of paper or napkin and borrow a pen for a minute. She nodded and handed me said napkin and her pen. Quickly I jotted down ten digits and then gave the chick her pen back. After she walked away from me, I laid my cash on the counter and slid off my seat.

My turn to surprise her, I tapped on her right shoulder causing her to jump slightly in her seat before she turned her face up to look at me. Giving her a grin and allowing a mischievous look to flash in my eyes, I told her to give me her hand where I promptly placed the small napkin upon her opened palm before taking her hand and curling her fingers into a fist so that she could hold it securely in her hands. Bending slightly so that my mouth is near her ear I whisper; “call me,” and then I bid her farewell and left the café behind me.

Hopping into my car I drove out of the parking lot and was on the main road heading back to my current abode in minutes. Once nestled back in the confines of my dwelling, I sent a message to Asmodeus letting him know that the assignment was now in motion, and I would report more as the mission went along. After that I got myself comfortable next to the window that I had been watching the angels through to settle in for another fun filled evening of doing absolutely nothing!
