I was still upset with King Bellamy because he had decided my engagement to Prince Maximilian without my consent. I wish I could do something to cancel this engagement party but I knew that nothing could change the king’s mind.

“Wait!” I said when an idea suddenly popped up in my mind. “Maybe there’s still a way.”

I took the mobile phone that Prince Maximilian had given for me from the drawer of the bedside table. Yes, yesterday I also persuaded Prince Maximilian to buy me a mobile phone when we went shopping at the mall. I turned around and found Sigmund standing before me.

“Sigmund, what are you doing? Give me back my phone now!” I tried to grab my mobile phone but he put it out of my reach.

“Where did you get this phone?” He asked angrily.

“Prince Maximilian bought it for me yesterday,” I replied, “Now give it back!”

“No!” he said firmly.

“Sigmund, give it back!” I demanded.

Ignoring my words, Sigmund asked again, “Who did you call just now?”

“Prince Maximilian,” I lied.

“You called Prince Maximilian, huh? But it’s doesn’t look like his number.” He examined the numbers on the screen.

“It’s his new number.” Another lie.

“You think I trust you? Now tell me the truth or else I will break your phone!” he threatened.

“Okay, okay, I will tell you the truth. I— I— I called my family in London,” I admitted.

“You what?” Sigmund’s jaw dropped. “Oh Princess you shouldn’t have called them. You know the king has forbidden you to contact your adopted family, right?”

“I know,” I said, “But I miss them so much. I just—”

“I must report it to the king now,” Sigmund said, interrupting me.

“No, Sigmund. Please don’t!” I begged.

Ignoring my plea, Sigmund stormed out of my bedroom and brought mobile phone with him.

“Sigmund, wait!” I ran after him outside, but he was already out of sight.

'He must be using his vampire power,' I thought.

“Could you please take me to the king now? I need to talk to him,” I asked the guards outside my bedroom.

“Alright,” one of the guards answered, “This way, My Lady.”

The guards escorted me to meet the king at the throne room. Apparently, Sigmund had arrived there. He was standing in front of King Bellamy who was sitting on his throne. My phone was now in my grandfather’s hand, so Sigmund must have revealed everything to him.

“Ah Mirabelle, I’m glad you join us,” King Bellamy said when he noticed me standing at the doorway.

I smiled nervously.

“Come here!” He crooked his fingers.

Reluctantly, I approached them.

“Sigmund has told me what you have done. You know what your mistake is, Mirabelle?” He asked in an intimidating tone.

“Yes Grandpa,” I answered, my voice was shaking.

“Tell me what it is!” He commanded.

“I... I... I called my family in London,” I stuttered.

“Adopted family,” he said through gritted teeth.

“Yeah I mean my adopted family,” I corrected, didn’t want to anger him.

“Now explain to me! Why did you call them when I have told you not to?” He demanded.

“I’m so sorry, Grandpa. But I miss my adopted family so much. I just want to tell them that I’m okay so they don’t have to worry about me anymore,” I explained. Tears welled up my eyes.

“I don’t give a damn if they’re worried about you. No matter what happens, you must not keep in touch with those human again. Do you understand?” He bellowed.

“Yes Grandpa, I understand. Please forgive me!” I begged.

He let out a sigh. “You’re lucky tomorrow is your big day that’s why I won’t punish you now.”

My heart lifted at his words. “Thank you, Grandpa.” Spontaneously, I hugged him.

He was taken aback by my action, but finally hugged me back for a moment before detaching our embrace.

“Grandpa, can I have my phone back now?” I asked hopefully.

“No,” he refused, “I will confiscate your phone as a punishment for breaking my rules.”

“But you said you wouldn’t punish me, right?” I protested.

He chuckled. “Oh Mirabelle, when I say I will punish you, it’s not just taking your phone away.”

I gulped. “Then what is the punishment that he’s talking about? I don’t even want to think about it.”

“But I have to call Prince Maximilian. We’re going to buy our engagement ring tonight. So please give me back my phone, Grandpa!” I persuaded him.

“He can buy the ring by himself,” he said.

“You have decided my engagement without asking for my agreement. At least, I want to choose my engagement ring by myself,” I protested.

“Fine,” he sighed, “Return to your bedroom now! I will order the guard to tell Prince Maximilian to pick you up.”

“Okay,” I huffed.

Before I left, I glared at Sigmund.

He smirked at me mockingly.

'You will pay me back, Sigmund,' I said in my mind.

At last, I walked out of the throne room and asked the guard to escort me back to my room.
