“Grandpa?” I asked in disbelief.

I wondered what the king was doing in my bedroom. The last time he came to my room was before the ball. He met me just to warn me to be at my best behavior when we were at my engagement party.

So, was he here to reprimand me again? Because if he just wanted to talk to me, I was sure he would order Sigmund to pick me up and then he would take me to meet the king in his throne room.

Smiling, King Bellamy approached me, and sat down on the edge of the bed.

“What’s wrong, Grandpa?” I asked curiously.

“I know when we’re talking in the throne room, I said that you’d better get some rest. But I think it will be better if you eat first before going to bed,” he suggested.

Honestly, I wasn’t hungry. I had eaten a lot of food when I was waiting for the vampires at the café. But I knew I couldn’t decline the king’s offer. I didn’t want him to be angry with me again. However, the problem was I was afraid King Bellamy would force me to consume blood again. Even if he didn’t make me consume blood, the thought of watching him drinking blood in front of me filled me with disgust.

“Don’t worry! I promise I won’t force you to drink blood again,” King Bellamy said as if he could read my mind.

Now, I began to doubt that he wasn’t a mind reader. Because if he really couldn’t read my mind, how in the world could he know what I was thinking about just now?

I asked, “Grandpa, how can you know what I was thinking about? Are you—”

“I told you I am not a mind reader, Mirabelle,” King Bellamy interrupted me with a chuckle, “I know what you’re thinking about from your expression.”

“Oh,” I commented.

“Let’s have dinner now, shall we?” he said.

“Sure,” I responded, “I’ll get changed first.”

I got out of the bed and was ready to walk towards the walk-in closet, but suddenly King Bellamy grabbed my hand, holding me back.

“No, you don’t have to change,” he said unexpectedly.

“But you said that I wasn’t allowed to wear casual clothes except for when I was in my bedroom,” I said confusedly.

“Well, I change my mind. Start now on, I promise I won’t force you to do anything you don’t like again,” he said.

My heart lit up at his words. “Really?”

He nodded and gave me a warm smile. “When you suddenly disappeared, I thought you had run away because you didn’t like being controlled by me. That’s why I decided to give you more freedom after you returned. I don’t want you to leave me ever again, Mirabelle.”

I hugged my grandfather. “Thank you, Grandpa. I promise I will never leave you. I love you.”

King Bellamy hugged me back. “I love you too, my granddaughter.”

King Bellamy looked completely sincere when he said that he loved me. Thus, I was pretty sure that Adolph had lied to me while he told me that my grandfather had evil intention for me. But I had to ask my grandfather myself just to make sure of it.

After we pulled away from the embrace, King Bellamy held out his hand to me. “Let’s go!”

I took his hand and we then walked out of my bedroom.

Seeing us, the guards who were stationed in front of my room bowed their head slightly in respect. As we strolled down the corridor, the guards followed behind us.

“Do the guards always have to follow me everywhere?” I asked my grandfather, annoyed.

“Of course,” he answered, “They are here to guarantee your safety, Mirabelle.”

“But I don’t like being followed around, Grandpa,” I complained.

“Stop complaining, Mirabelle!” King Bellamy scolded me, “I’m only doing this for your own good. You need the guards to protect you. I can’t take the risk of you getting kidnapped again.”

“But you have promised me that you would give me more freedom. Where is the freedom if I have to be followed by bodyguards everywhere?” I protested.

The vampire king sighed. “Fine. I’ll think about it.”

I smiled triumphantly.
