I took a step backwards. “Gra—Grand—Grandpa,” I stammered.

“Where do you think you’re going, Mirabelle?” he asked furiously.

Instead of answering his question, I spun around and ran off to the opposite direction, before turning to the left, entering the woods deeper.

However, my escape was short-lived, because in a split second, King Bellamy could catch up with me, and grabbed my arm.

“Not so fast, Little Princess,” he hissed.

‘I hate vampires and their super power!’ I grumbled in my mind.

“Come on, let’s go back now!” Releasing my arm, the vampire king grasped me by the wrist and pulled me towards the palace. Considering how tightly his grip on my wrist was, I had no choice but to follow him.

When we reached the palace gates, we ran across my ten bodyguards and the other guards whom I met in the hallways. They all were apparently chasing after me too.

“Why the hell did you let her leave the palace?” King Bellamy barked at the guards.

All of the guards hung their heads in fear, none of them dared to answer their king.

“I asked you a question,” the king snapped at them.

One of them finally spoke up, “Please forgive us, Your Majesty. We don’t know why we couldn’t disobey Princess Mirabelle’s order.”

“Yes, Your Majesty,” added the other guard, “Especially when we saw Princess Mirabelle’s eyes turning into red. It’s as if that we were hypnotized to obey her.”

‘So my eyes really turned into red? That means it’s not only my imagination. Sigmund has lied to me,’ I thought.

The king returned his attention back to me. “So your eyes turned into red, huh?” S~ᴇaʀᴄh the FindNʘᴠᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

I knew it was a rhetorical question, so I didn’t bother answering him.

“It seems that my blood has activated your power early, Mirabelle,” he continued.

“Power?” I frowned.

“Yes, your vampire power,” he clarified.

‘Vampire power? Since when did I have a vampire power? I don’t think I have a super power. And if I really had it, why did I never realize it before?’ I asked myself confusedly.

‘I think I’d better ask my grandfather,’ I decided.

“What power do you mean, Grandpa?” I asked out of curiosity.

“Compulsion,” he replied, “Your power is the same like your mother.”

‘I had ever read one of the vampire novels that told about a vampire who had magic power that could control people by their words. Or they usually called it compulsion. So I can do that in the real world? Cool!’ I thought.

An idea suddenly popped up in my mind. ‘What if I use my compulsion to King Bellamy so that I can run away from here? I don’t know if it will work or not. But I think it’s worth a try.’

I looked the vampire king in the eyes and said firmly, “Grandpa, I order you to let me go now!”

There was a silence for a moment before the vampire king burst out laughing. “Oh no, your power won’t work on me, little princess.”

‘My compulsion completely worked on the guards, but why it didn’t work on the king?’ I asked myself, annoyed.

“Come on!” King Bellamy began dragging me into the palace. By the time we arrived at the throne room, the vampire king pushed me over.

“Ouch!” I whimpered in pain when I fell onto the floor with a thud.

Sigmund, who happened to be in the throne room too now, along with Prince Maximilian, approached me. Bending over, he gripped my arm gently and helped me to my feet.

“Thanks,” I whispered.

He only replied me with a nod before returning to his previous position beside Prince Maximilian.

King Bellamy walked around me so he was now standing in front of me.

I bowed my head to avert my eyes from his intimidating glare.

“YOU PROMISED THAT YOU WOULD STAY WITH ME IF I SPARED THOSE WEREWOLVES’ LIVES, BUT WHY DID YOU TRY TO ESCAPE AGAIN, MIRABELLE? WHY?” King Bellamy bellowed at me.

I really wanted to yell back at him that I tried to run away because I didn’t want to marry Prince Maximilian, but thought better of it. King Bellamy was furious now. I was afraid I would anger him even more if I told him the truth. Thus, all I could say was, “I’m sorry, Grandpa.”

Ignoring my apology, the vampire king began to scream at me again, “I HAVE SAVED YOUR LIFE, MIRABELLE. BUT THIS IS HOW YOU REPAY ME? YOU TRIED TO LEAVE ME, YOUR GRANDFATHER.”

I had never seen King Bellamy this angry at me before and I was so scared until I couldn’t help but cried.

“Forgive me, Grandpa,” I sobbed.

King Bellamy touched my face and lifted my chin so my eyes met his.

“You must be thirsty after all of that running, right?” he said with a smile. Yes, a smile.

The sudden change in the king’s behavior confused me. One minute he reprimanded me and the next minute he talked to me nicely like nothing ever happened.

‘He must be planning something,’ I thought suspiciously.

King Bellamy clapped his hands. As quick as a flash, a servant came, carrying a tray with a glass of water on it. The vampire king took the glass and signaled the servant to leave. The servant bowed his head in respect and left the throne room right away.

King Bellamy smirked and then handed the glass to me. “Here drink this!”

I looked at the glass on my hand. It’s filled with purple liquid.

‘What is this? It is definitely not blood. Then, could this water be poisonous?’ I questioned in my mind.

“Wh—what is this, Grandpa?” I asked in stutter.

“Don’t ask; just drink!” he ordered.

I glanced at Sigmund, but he looked the other way, evading my gaze. Knowing Sigmund wouldn’t help me, I turned to Prince Maximilian and thought, ‘Maxim, please help me! I don’t want to drink this.’

“I’m sorry,” he mouthed.

‘COWARD!!!’ I yelled at him in my mind.

“What are you waiting for, Mirabelle? Come on drink it!” the king said impatiently.

“Grandpa, I… I... I—”

“I SAID DRINK!” he snarled at me, making me jump in startle.

With trembling hands, I brought the glass to my mouth and took a sip of it. The taste made me want to throw up, so I quickly pushed the glass away.

“Drink all of it!” King Bellamy ordered.

I shook my head. “No, I don’t want to.”

Angrily, the vampire king snatched the glass from my hand. He brought the glass to my mouth and forced me to drink the water.

I clamped my lips tightly together, refusing to drink the water. King Bellamy pinched my nose, so I had no other choice but to open my mouth to take air into my lungs. Taking advantage of it, the king poured the water into mouth and then put his hand over my mouth so I was forced to swallow the water. When he was sure I had drunk all of the water, he dropped the glass and it shattered into pieces on the floor.

I didn’t know why suddenly my throat felt like it’s on fire. I put my hands around my neck and then started couching.

“Gr—gr—grand—p—pa, wh—what did you give me?” I stuttered.

Didn’t answer my question, King Bellamy just gave me an evil smirk. He then turned around, and finally walked towards his throne calmly.

Tears rolled down my face. The room was suddenly swimming before my eyes and my vision started to blur. My feet gave out and I am about to collapse. Luckily, Prince Maximilian caught me before I fell onto the floor and put me on his lap.

“Rosanne?” He shook my body.

“Your Majesty, what are you doing to her?” he asked worriedly.

“Don’t worry, Prince Maximilian! I am not going to kill her. I did this just to give her a lesson,” King Bellamy replied as he took a seat on his throne.

“Sigmund, take Princess Mirabelle to her room now! And this time, make sure she can’t escape again,” he ordered.

“All right, Your Majesty,” Sigmund responded.

Sigmund walked towards me. He tried to touch me, but Maximilian pushed his hand away.

“I’ll carry her,” Maximilian insisted.

“Fine,” Sigmund said.

Maximilian put one arm behind my back and the other under my legs, and swept me up into his arms. After that, he carried me bridal style out of the throne room. Sigmund followed behind us.

“Please stay with me, Rosanne!” Maximilian told me.

But my eyes felt so heavy. So I slowly closed my eyes and let the darkness consume me.
