I woke up to find myself lying in my bed. When I turned my head to the left, I saw Prince Maximilian sitting on a chair beside the bed. He leaned his head against the back of the chair and folded his arms over his chest. His eyes were closed. His chest was up rising up and down telling me that he was asleep.

I opened my mouth and tried to call him, but the words couldn’t come out.

‘What’s going on? Why can’t I speak?’ I asked myself, panicked.

I tried to speak again, but I couldn’t. Finally, I reached out my hand to Maximilian and shook his thigh slightly.

‘Maximilian, wake up!’ I said in my mind, knowing Maximilian could hear it.

Within seconds, Maximilian opened his eyes.

“Ah Rosanne, you’re finally awake,” Maximilian beamed.

‘Maxim, I can’t speak. Why do I suddenly lose my voice?’ I asked in my mind as tears rolled down my face.

Prince Maximilian wiped my tears with his thumb. “Don’t be afraid, Rosanne! It’s only temporary. You’ll soon get your voice back,” he reassured me.

‘What exactly has happened to me, Maxim?’ I questioned confusedly.

“Remember the drink that King Bellamy gave to you?” he asked me back instead.

I nodded.

“King Bellamy told me that it was actually a potion that made you lose your voice temporarily. He said that if you couldn’t speak, you couldn’t use your power to compel anyone to help you escape again,” he explained.

‘How could my grandfather do that to me!’ I said angrily.

“I’m so sorry, Rosanne. I honestly don’t approve of him punishing you like this. But I can do nothing to stop the vampire king,” Maximilian said sympathetically.

I gave him a weak smile. ‘That’s okay, Maxim. It’s not your fault.’

Maximilian returned my smile.

‘Wait!’ I added when I realized something, ‘Since I can’t speak, it means our wedding will be called off, right?’

“Oh no, no, no, Rosanne. No matter what happens, our wedding must go on,” he stated.

‘Are you stupid? We couldn’t continue our wedding if I couldn’t speak,’ I said.

“Of course, we can,” he insisted.

‘No, we can’t,’ I refuted, ’How can I say ‘I do’ if I can’t even speak?’

“You can say it in your mind and then I’ll tell the priest that you said I do,” he said stubbornly.

‘Then I won’t say I do in my mind,’ I said.

“I will lie that you have said I do. However no one will know about it, right?” he said with a grin.

‘You’re so annoying!’ I spat.

Maximilian chuckled. “Hahaha I know sometimes I can be annoying, but that’s what makes you fall in love with me, right?”

‘What?! Fall in love with you? Sorry, I will never fall in love with an annoying prince like you, Maximilian,’ I said.

“But I can clearly see that you love me, Rosanne,” he said with a smirk.

‘No, I don’t,’ I refuted. sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ ꜰindNʘvel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“Yes, you do,” he insisted.

‘I don’t,’ I said.

Maximilian said, “Yes—”

‘Enough!’ I cut him off. ‘Get out of my room, Maximilian! I want to be alone right now.’

“Are you sure you want me to leave you now?” he asked.

‘Yes,’ I said confidently.

“But if I left you, no one would understand you because you can’t speak,” Maximilian said.

I hated to admit it, but Maximilian was right. He was the only one who could understand what I was talking about. Kicking him out of my bedroom wasn’t the best option now.

‘But wait! I can still write what I want to say on a piece of paper, right? So I don’t need to be with you all the time,’ I said.

“But do you see any pen or paper around here?” he queried.

He was right. Again. I had never seen any pen or paper in my bedroom.

‘No, I don’t have a pen and a paper. But I can ask Lupita to bring them here for me,’ I answered.

“How can you ask her if you can’t even speak?” he mocked.

‘You really are very annoying, Maximilian! I hate you,’ I said in my mind angrily.

Smirking, Maximilian replied calmly, “I love you too.”

‘YOU!’ I yelled inwardly.

I shot up in a sitting position and tried to attack Maximilian. But he quickly rose to his feet and put his hands up in the air.

“Okay, okay. You win. I will leave you now,” he said.

Maximilian started walking towards the door. Before he left my room, Maximilian said, “See you at our wedding ceremony tonight.”

‘Tonight. Tonight. Tonight.’ Maximilian’s last word kept chanting in my head.

My wedding ceremony would be held tonight exactly at midnight, and nothing I could do to stop it.

I yanked my hair with both of my hands and screamed in my mind in frustration.

After I felt a little better, I sank back on the pillow and closed my eyes.

‘Oh God, I wish I could sleep and didn’t wake up for a long time so that I would miss my wedding day,’ I secretly hoped.
