Marxus was on the estate ground, waiting near the garage with parents and loved ones, eagerly awaiting the return. He paced nervously, wondering what was taking them so long; it was now dusk, the gates were sealed and the Boar-wolves had their reign of the island. Glancing at his pocket watch, a frown crept on his face. Shaking his head, he was becoming a bit agitated that the young men and women didn’t follow his instructions yet again.

“Marxus?” Lady D’s voice startled him.

Turning to her, there she stood.

“Good evening, Ma’am.” he greeted, hiding his watch.

“They’re late, aren’t they?” she worried, looking around.

“Yes, it seems they are.” he answered, “I told them that if they had any trouble, they were to call me immediately, and to be honest, I don’t know what’s taking them, I really don’t.” and before he, or Lady D could say anything more, a portal began sparking, creating a bridge between the Isle and Heysham; its width and height increased, “Back, everyone!” Marxus called out. He guided them closer to the garage, where Lycynian workers had ceased their work to watch the occurrence. Leaving the parents and others behind, Marxus emerged, standing with a handful of Guardians around him, watching as the nose of the hovercraft poked through the center, before its whole body was ejected the rest of the way, with two trucks following seconds later, “Oh thank God…” he fretted with a heavy sigh.

“Portal delay, you know.” one of the Demon Guardians sent Marxus a glance, stating the truth within his eyes.

“Mm, perhaps.” Marxus nodded, “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome, Sir.” the Guardian nodded, then watched as the vehicles approached, parking nearby on the gravel patch outside the garage, “Do you need us anymore tonight, Sir?”

“No, thank you.” Marxus appreciated, “Return to your posts.”

The Guardians nodded, teleporting in blue or green swirls of fire, leaving behind the scent of sulfur and a scorch mark on the grass.

Marxus watched as the vehicles remained still before all of the passengers cramped inside, emerged swiftly needing fresh air. He would allow everyone to greet one another, before he made his inquiry as to their tardiness.

Once the soles of my boots stepped on the grass, and feeling the hard lump in my throat pass, I turned urging Zanzabarr out of the hovercraft and I didn’t need to tell him twice for he lept out, shaking his fur. Smiling, I suddenly heard my mom’s voice shouting my name and as I turned toward the massive garage, I watched as she carefully, but briskly, walked toward me with her arms stretched out; the sleeves of her dress flowed with an elegant glide, as did her skirt trailing behind her.

“Oh my baby girl, thank god!” Lady D hugged her daughter perhaps maybe a little too tight, for there was a moment where she felt her daughter’s hand tapping her back, unable to breathe. Pulling away, she scanned her face, taking notice of her new shorter hair, cuts and scratches, “What happened to your hair?” she grabbed the shorter strands, “And why are you covered in cuts, scrapes and scratches?”

“Mommy, please…” I sighed, “it’s a long story, one I will tell you but right now I’m tired, sore and I really want to take a hot bath.” I complained, gripping her hands tightly.

“Of-of course.” Lady D smiled with worry, “Are you hungry?”

“No, we already ate when we stopped in Penrith, but I won’t say no to one of your cups of herbal tea?” I smiled.

“I can do that.” Lady D nodded.

“Cool.” I grinned, then glanced back watching everyone else.

Erik stood with his father Hiromi, who grabbed his shoulders, giving them a brief squeeze before pulling him forward. Erik grinned, patting him on the back then pulled away, watching as his father’s dark eyes scanned his appearance, seeing he was a little rump-sprung which wasn’t like him, for Erik was always precise and wrinkle free.

“What happened?” Hiromi questioned.

“It’s a long story father, but right now I want a shower.” Erik suggested tiredly, slowly blinking his gray eyes.

“Of course.” Hiromi nodded, “I’ll make you some tea, hmm?” he reached for his sons bags, carrying them effortlessly.

“Sounds good.” Erik patted his father’s shoulder.

Thomas’ wife Louisa and two children, cried as she held onto Thomas so close, she didn’t want to let him go. Pulling away, they shared a long, passionate kiss.

“Finally.” Louisa sighed in relief, leaning her head against Thomas’ chest, “I was getting worried.” she looked up at him, wiping her tears away, then slapped his arm, “Why didn’t you call us, to let us know you were all right?!”

“I will tell you later.” Thomas gripped her hands.

“Mm-hmm, you better.” Louisa affirmed then turning to Anthony, she gave her brother-in-law a hug as well, before taking a step back feeling him flinch from hidden wounds that hadn’t yet fully healed, “Are you all right?” she worried.

“Si, just a scratch.” he grinned, but his eyes were tired, “And it’s nothing a hot shower and some rest can’t fix, hmm?” he looked at Thomas, “I’ll see you later.” he walked past, placing a hand on his shoulder, giving a firm squeeze.

“Take care of yourself.” Thomas worried.

“Don’t I always?” Anthony nodded, then slowly limped away, heading toward the Lycynian dwelling that wasn’t too far.

Louisa frowned, then turned, watching as Thomas who knelt in front of their son and daughter, twins of 12 years old.

“Papa…” the twins ran into their father’s arms.

Thomas smiled, hugging them tightly. Looking at them with a proud smile, he kissed them both then stood, turning to his wife, wrapping an arm around her waist.

“What happened out there?” Louisa worried, looking at him.

Thomas glanced down at her, saying nothing.

Jonathan’s mother Susan, his father Jonathan Sr., and 2 year old sister Lucy, greeted him with enormous hugs as well. As he knelt in front of Lucy, picking her up, he removed a carved bunny from his pocket, handing it to her. He loved seeing the wide smile on her sweet, round face, making the homecoming worth it all.

“Welcome home, son.” Jonathan Sr. hugged him.

“Thanks, dad.” he grinned, “How are you?”

“Well enough.” he nodded.

“How was the journey?” Susan asked, beginning their slow walk toward the Wraith dwelling, “What did you see, what was it like?”

“Ugh…” Jonathan bounced Lucy in his arms, hearing a faint giggle, “it’s a long story, and one I really don’t want to talk about in front of Lucy.” he looked at his parents.

“All right, when you’re ready.” Susan patted his shoulder.

“We’re always here, you know that.” Jonathan Sr. offered.

“I know, thank you.” Jonathan smiled then glanced at Lucy, “I saw lots of bunnies while I was away, did you know that?” he watched as her big blue eyes widened, “Yeah, I did.” he let out a soft chuckle as she hopped the figurine around in the air, then he turned around hearing Leonard calling out for Sarah and Nathan, but paid no attention to their reunion.

Growing a wide smile, Sarah ran toward Leonard, who stood hugging her closely like a daughter. As she pulled away, she smiled then stepped aside, allowing him to greet Nathan but was hesitant.

“Nathan.” Leonard nodded awkwardly.

“Uncle.” Nathan muttered, then walked away.

Leonard shook his head, knowing it was pointless. Letting out a deep sigh, he turned to Sarah, asking how the journey was, and commented about her new hair, pinching the ends that were a bit choppy, still needing a proper trim.

“It was bloody awful.” Sarah walked alongside him, relaying all that happened, maybe a bit out of order but her point was made, “I think that’s the worse part.” she referred to the town with no name, “You wouldn’t have believed it, unless you were there. It was terrible.” she gripped his arm, having an unpleasant flashback moment of the men grabbing her.

Leonard held her close, hiding his anger toward Marxus, who not only put his niece and nephew in danger, but the others in the party as well. Reassuring her that she was safe, and that he’d speak with Marxus about it, he made sure she was safe within the doors of the mortal dwelling. Sharing one last hug, Sarah ran inside. Taking a step back, turning away from the doors, Leonard leered at the manor, clenching his fists tightly, for he knew exactly know he would handle the Immortal, having the perfect argument planned in his head, word-per-word.

Nikolaas spoke on the phone for hours with a foreign contact, attempting to search for answers pertaining to the Barathous bloodline, but who he spoke with came up empty-handed.

“I appreciate you taking my call, but if you could look into it, I would be grateful to you.” Nikolaas paced, “Let me know as soon as you find something, for this Barathous name has me on edge and I haven’t felt this way in many years.”

“How did you come by the name in the first place?” the voice questioned curiously.

“That doesn’t matter, just look into it then let me know.” Nikolaas barked bluntly.

“Very well, Mr. Lazaar.” the voice agreed.

“Thank you.” Nikolaas ended the call abruptly. Leaning on the back of his office chair, staring at items in precise places on the desk, he glanced at the photo of his deceased wife, “Barathous.” he repeated the name that began haunting his thoughts, and each time he muttered the word, he felt a surge of energy flow through him like a current, something that he has never experienced before.

After spending time in a hot bath, scrubbing my skin until it turned red, and washing Zanzabarr of the past two weeks, it felt great using my own bathroom, as well as having all of my favorite perfumes, scented body washes and oils. Once clean, feeling refreshed, I wanted to retire for the night but I needed to do two things, first call Anthony making sure that he was all right. The video chat could have gone on forever but I was the one that ended for I could see it in his eyes that he was in some discomfort for the bite on his leg, from what he told me, was taking a bit longer to heal than expected. I frowned with worry, thinking that maybe it was because the bite wound had been inflicted by another Lycynian and in their shifted form.

“I’ll be fine, little Yza…” he smiled, “I promise.”

“You better.” I worried, “I can’t lose you…not now.”

“And you won’t. I will see you tomorrow.” he reassured her.

“Promise?” I softly pleaded.

“Si.” he smiled, “Goodnight.”

“Goodnight.” I bit my lip. Once the call ended, I let out a long, deep sigh, then retrieved my rock, heading downstairs to tell my mom about everything that happened, “Can you please sit down? You’re making me dizzy.” I pleaded, watching as she paced.

Hearing her daughter’s plea, she ceased, taking a seat across from her. Feeling furious with Marxus because she and the others were given the promise that he would do everything to keep them safe, he did quite the opposite from the horrific stories and events that her daughter told. Gasping in shock, and horror, she couldn’t believe the events that took place in the town with no name, commenting that something like that would have been something you would find in movies, but it was real life.

“You okay?” I leaned forward, listening to her silence.

“Not really, no.” Lady D fretted, “I just…” she shook her head, “I just can’t believe you went through all of that, and alone.”

“I wasn’t alone. I had Erik, Sarah, Jonathan and Anthony.” I muttered softly, for as I said his name, the worried tone in my voice was a clear hint of my concern and I hoped my mom did not catch on. Looking at her, she stared at the table in deep thought, “But that’s not all.” I announced, clearing my throat.

“Oh my god, there’s more?” Lady D looked at her worriedly.

“Yep, remember that rock I mentioned? Wasn’t a rock at all.”

“Wasn’t a rock at all?”

“It’s a dragon.” I declared.

“S-say that again?” she leaned forward, “I mean, I heard you right…right?”

“Yep.” I casually nodded, “My rock is a dragon.” I held onto it.

“This I have to see, to believe.” she muttered. Inching closer to the ledge of her seat, leaning forward, she watched as the rock was placed on the table. She sat quietly, listening as she spoke to it softly, but nothing at first, happened, “Mm-hmm.” she mocked, thinking this was a joke, “Nice try.” she sat back.

“Just wait.” I urged then spoke to the rock again, “Hey there, it’s all right little one.” I whispered, stroking the rock that in that moment, began jumping in place before transforming its form into that small dragon. Smiling with both admiration and pride, I bit my lip remaining quiet.

Blocking her eyes from the sudden burst of red light, Lady D lowered her hand as it faded and as she blinked, her vision cleared and she was amazed, watching as the dragon slowly stretched out its wings. Wanting to say something, the small creature grew startled hearing her voice that was unfamiliar to it. She leaned back, listening as it shrieked before flying into her daughter’s lap, burying its head beneath its wings.

“Easy there, boy.” I comforted, staring down at him, “She’s not going to hurt you, it’s all right.” I stroked his soft scales, “She’s my mother, just as much as I am yours.”

“Mo-mother?” Lady D reached out telepathically, “Something you want to tell me, because you clearly left that part out.”

Staring at me, the dragon then turned to the woman sitting across from him. Blinking his Amber eyes, he offered her a nod of respect, then folded his wings, laying there feeling as his mothers fingers stroked his scales.

I went on explaining how I found him, revealing that he was a shape-shifter.

“Shape-shifter?” Lady D wondered, “That’s not…something that you hear about everyday.”

“No kidding, I was surprised too.” I rasped.

Suddenly, Freya emerged from under the bed.

Hearing the faint meows, the dragon raised his head. Tilting it, studying the small feline that scattered when seeing the strange, winged beast, the dragon shrieked as he once more, stretched out his wings, before taking on the feline’s form; he was the perfect duplicate walking on the table before jumping down, approaching the original. Sniffing noses, it was the real Freya that hissed, lashing out her paws at her doppelganger that backed away, growling before he let out a loud squawk, for both Lady D and Yzavela, it was strange and unnatural, listening as a cat roared.

Sharing glances between them, the mother and daughter both watched as the dragon’s feline form returned to its place in Yzavela’s lap, morphing back to its small dragon appearance.

“Wow okay, that happened.” Lady D fretted, “I know there are dragons that possess different abilities according to myth, but shape-shifting? I don’t think scholars or historians put that in their works about dragons.” she grinned, But he is a rare beauty for sure, what’s his name?”

“He doesn’t have one yet.” I revealed shyly.

“Why not?”

“Because I don’t know what to call him or have names that are suitable for him. I’m certainly not call him Blacky, yeah?” my voice grew agitated, but I quickly realized my tone as my mom folded her arms, “Sorry.” I continued softly, “I figured I would wait until I came back, and ask you for names. I know there are several names in your books, so I want something magical and special and you certainly have books to glimpse through.” I looked around, taking notice of all the volumes on her shelves near her wardrobe.

“No pressure then.” Lady D nodded, “But I can try.” she stood, “It’ll take me a little while because finding him a name wasn’t on my to-do list for the day, nor can it be found in a matter of minutes.”

“It’s all right, we can wait.” I smiled as the dragon released a low squawk.

Lady D approached her shelf, removing books, a pen and paper. Returning to her seat, laying the books on the table, she laid the notepad in her lap, beginning to search through the pages of the books. As she scribbled, she glanced at her daughter, continuing to listen to the tales of the journey; her eyes grew wide hearing about the Hunters capturing Axeon.

“Axeon? What’s an Axeon?” Lady D ceased her scribbling.

“Um, right…” I chuckled, “I haven’t told you about that, um well?” I ran my fingers through my hair, “Axeon is a dragon, one that dwells beneath the island. I could have sworn I told you about him already?”

“You most certainly did not!” Lady D gasped.

“Well, now you know.” I smiled, then continued telling her.

“My goodness…” Lady D leaned back, shaking her head.

I didn’t tell her about Anthony yet because I wanted to make sure there was something to tell her, plus I didn’t want all of the motherly drama surrounding the…situation.

“So, what names have you come up with so far?” I wondered.

Blinking quickly, pushing aside her distracting thoughts, she handed her daughter the notepad with a list of names she had gathered from the pages of the books.

Scanning the six, magical names, I wasn’t sure which would be right for him. Reading them aloud, I glanced down at the dragon, watching his reaction, blinking his Amber eyes. I let out a soft chuckle, as did my mom, because he was just too adorable.

“Okay, this is the last one.” I looked at the dragon, “Abraxas.”

The dragon raised his head, stretching his neck and fluttered his wings, while slowly flicking his tail. Tilting his head, once more, he blinked.

“You like that one?” I asked him, “You like Abraxas?”

“It’s of unknown origins, as am I, so yes Mother, I would like it be my name.” he answered telepathically, bowing his head.

“I don’t know what’s happening.” Lady D whispered as she leaned forward slightly in her chair, resting her elbows on her knees, “Have you, or has he, chosen a name?”

“Yes. Abraxas it is.” I proclaimed.

“Abraxas.” Lady D muttered the name, and studying him, she smiled in admiration of his beauty, even in his small form but the name suited him perfectly, “He’s beautiful.” she reached out, wanting to stroke his scales but he turned, snapping at her hand, “Sorry, sorry…” she held up her hands, respecting his boundaries.

“Abraxas…no!” I ordered, looking at him, “That wasn’t nice.”

“Apologies, Mother but I do not want anyone else’s touch.” Abraxas lowered his head, then glancing at the woman across from them, his verbal voice sounding like a young boy spoke, “Apologies, mortal woman. I meant no harm to you.”

“Um…” Lady D’s eyes widened, “it’s all right, I should have known better, but thank you and did he just speak?”

Abraxas nodded once more, then wrapped his wings around his small body, curling himself in his mother’s lap, letting out soft purr-like moans.

“So…that happened. Again.” Lady D teased, “Now your hair.”

“I knew you were going to comment on that sooner or later, but it wasn’t my choice, so leave it alone!” I snapped bluntly, “I like it and I’m going to keep it.” I fluffed it slightly.

“I know it wasn’t your choice, but whatever. What’s next for you though Yzavela, a tattoo?” Lady D’s voice held a hint of disappointment as she held her hands up, surrendering the argument, “But Marxus and I have are going to have words, and sweetheart, honestly the shorter hair is becoming but it definitely needs a better trim.”

“Yes, I know it does but thank you, and you’re not the only one who’s going to want words with Marxus, I’m sure.” I groaned, “I had many and I think he’s upset with me about it.” I sighed, “But now, enough about me…you haven’t told me about your time here during my absence, what’s happened with you and the other magical practitioners?”

“Do not…get me started.” Lady D complained, “But the same old stuff, they want me to join their coven and won’t take no for an answer, especially after I’ve told them repeatedly that I am a solitary practitioner. They’re harmless I know that, but I guess since I know things they do not, it’s new for them so I guess it’s not all bad.” she scratched her shoulder, “Although, we do agree on something.”

“Oh?” I grew curious.

“Something is coming, but from what or where, no one knows for sure.” she answered softly with worry.

“Great. What else could there be?” I leaned back. Looking at my mom, her expression said it all, “Yeah, I know. There’s a lot out there.” I shook my head, then glancing at Abraxas, he crawled up my chest, perching himself on the arched back of the chair, “Demons, Wraiths, Lycynians and dragons.”

“Don’t forget Bigfoot.” Lady D teased.

“Haven’t you heard, or seen?” I joked, “We have one of those. You know Leonus Lancaster right?”

“You mean that tall, Viking-looking Scotsman?”

“Yep. Six foot-six with a nasty demeanor. Fits the profile, no?”

“Yza, be nice.” Lady D chuckled.

“I am.” I laughed, then glanced at the clock on the wall, “It’s late, and I’m tired so I think I’ll go.” I stood, and turning to Abraxas, I held out my left arm, allowing him to crawl up and onto my shoulder.

“Okay, sweetheart.” Lady D stood, giving her daughter a side hug and kiss on the cheek, then pulled away, walking her to the door, “Goodnight, I’ll see you tomorrow. And that goes for you too, Abraxas.”

“And you, mother-of-my-mother.” the dragon answered her verbally, surprising her.

“Did he just?” she pointed at him.

“Mommy, just go with it! Dragons talk.” I gently patted her shoulder, “Goodnight, BLS.”

“Ha-ha, goodnight, KKB.” Lady D teased, watching as her daughter disappeared up the narrow staircase. Retreating to her room, closing the door and locking it, she mumbled, “A talking dragon, right…okay. This place it getting stranger by the minute.” she shook her head, then called out to Freya.

The next morning, Marxus didn’t expect the sight that had awaited him in the private lounge upstairs, near the study. As he opened the unlocked the door, opening the study for the day, he turned to the angry parents and loved ones of those he took in his trek through Scotland.

“Good morning.” he greeted them, but received no answer, so as he stepped aside, gesturing for all them to enter, the men and women didn’t hesitate as they swept past him. Watching as Louisa and Lady D were last to enter, he closed the door then approached his desk, taking a slow seat, “Shall we begin?” he rested his hands on the surface of the desk where folders were neatly stacked.

Two hours passed; Erik, Jonathan, Thomas, Sarah, Anthony and I, who inconspicuously held hands, sat in the lounge, glancing at the study door, listening to the loud shouts and arguments taking place inside before there was an eerie silence, followed by the door swinging open. Adults stormed out fuming in anger as they stomped down the stairs away from the study. Erik, Jonathan, Thomas and Sarah ran after their family, while Anthony and I remained behind, watching as my mom emerged with a red face, trying to catch her breath. Scampering toward her, calming her down, I guided her to the seats, while Anthony stood near the study door, glancing inside, observing Marxus sitting behind the desk with his face buried in his hands. Glancing back at Anthony, who locked eyes with mine, he shook his head, for what was said was unknown.

“Is she all right?” Anthony approached.

“I’ll be fine, thank you.” Lady D revealed, “I just need to catch my breath, my heart is running a marathon, that’s all.” and as she closed her eyes, taking deep breaths, she counted softly to herself, listening to her daughter’s voice whispering to her.

“I’ll call for one of the Guardians.” Anthony turned away.

“Thank you.” I appreciated with a smile. Watching as he took steps aside, standing near the hall leading to the library that was adjacent to the study, I studied his mannerisms.

Lady D opened her eyes, catching the look on her daughter’s face while she watched the Italian pacing nearby, with a soft bite to her lip.

“Um…” she leaned in, whispering softly, “is there something I should know about the two of you?”

“Hmm?” I looked at her.

“Did something happen between the two of you out there?”

Glancing at my feet, I stood, hearing him approach.

“One of the Guardians will be here in a moment.” he smiled.

“Thank you.” I appreciated, unable to hide the affection in my eyes as I looked at him.

“I see.” Lady D announced, for the look between her daughter and the Italian answered her earlier inquiry, “But finally.” she whispered to herself as she looked away momentarily.

“Someone call for a lift?” Wyatt appeared by the stairs.

Turning around, there stood the level 5 Demon dressed in his steampunk uniform. Offering a respectful nod and handshake with Anthony, having nothing against each other, the Demon glanced at Yzavela and Lady D, holding out his hands for the woman to stand.

“Where would you like to go?” Wyatt asked the two women.

“Downstairs.” Lady D affirmed, “I’m suddenly in the need for a strong cup of English coffee.” she looked at Wyatt, “Please, and thank you.”

“Sure thing.” he nodded, then held out his hand.

“Yza, are you coming?” Lady D turned to her.

“I’ll catch up.” I added, “I’ll meet you there, you go.” I urged.

Nodding, she turned to Wyatt who opened a portal at the top of the winding staircase. Looking at Lady D, he reassured her that it was all right, for he could sense her uneasiness as her grip of his hand, tightened.

“Close your eyes, Ma’am. It’s better that way, especially if it’s your first time through.” Wyatt muttered softly. Watching as she followed his instructions, he glanced back at Yzavela and Anthony offering them both a brief nod, then as he turned his head, he and Lady D stepped through the portal before it quickly closed. Reappearing by the last step in the foyer, Wyatt smiled letting go of Lady D’s hands, “There we go.” he patted her arm.

“There’s ground, right?” Lady D joked, gently tapping a foot against the solid ground beneath her. Opening her eyes, she looked around baffled, because she had no idea what to expect, but certainly nothing that smoothly, “That’s it?” she looked at Wyatt.

“Yes, Ma’am.” he smiled, “That’s it.”

“Wow.” Lady D nodded, “I thought there would be long tunnels or…black holes or something.”

“Nope. No tunnels or black holes.” Wyatt teased, “Just as is.”

“Hmm.” she admired, “But thank you.”

“You’re welcome.” he backed away, returning to his post.

Lady D sighed, glancing up at the staircase behind her.

“Anthony.” she whispered, “I knew she would.” she smiled as she turned, walking toward the dining hall, having that much needed cup of coffee, waiting for her daughter.

“I should go catch up.” I turned to Anthony, “You could come, if you want.” I smiled.

“I would love to, thank you.” he held her close, “But there is something I want to do first.” he looked around, making sure Marxus, nor anyone else was passing through, not that he was afraid. Turning to her, he leaned in kissing her longingly, taking her breath away, “There, now I feel better.” he teased, placing his index finger under her chin, raising her gaze, “No?”

“Mmm.” I raised my left eyebrow flirtatiously. Gently taking his hand in mine, we descended the stairs leaving the study behind us. Taking a moment to pause on the landing, I made my inquiry as to how his injuries were and he told me that he had fully healed, leaving only faint scars across his body.

“I’m fine, really.” he looked at her, “I’d tell you if I weren’t.” he grinned then teased sensually, “After all, you are my little Doctor Yza.”

“Ha-ha, but that’s good to hear because I don’t like secrets.” I mumbled with a smile, trying to ignore his charm which was impossible.

“Coming from the one who is our next Keeper of Secrets.” he nudged her gently.

“Touche.” I laughed, “Come on, I’m sure my mom’s waiting.”

Entering the dining hall, I looked around observing my mom sitting at one of the tables with the others, parents included. As I sat beside my mom, Anthony took his place next to his brother that sat just a bit down the table with Louisa.

“So, when were you going to tell me about you and Anthony?” Lady D reached out telepathically, looking at her daughter.

“I didn’t tell you because it’s new, and I don’t know, I didn’t want to jinx it you know?” I looked at her, “He almost died twice, and I guess that made me realize how much I cared for him.” I shrugged, “Are you complaining?”

“Hell no, I knew he would get to you eventually.”

“It’s not like that.” I argued bluntly, “He’s a good person, and he doesn’t judge me for what I am.” I quickly glanced at Erik.

“Did something happen between the three of you?”

“It doesn’t matter. Erik and I came to terms that we are just friends, then there’s Anthony and I that are not, so let’s leave it at that, hmm?” I finished, then declared verbally, “What did you say to Marxus?” I reached for a pitcher of orange juice.

“Plenty. And from everyone here.” Lady D gestured around the table at the others that were with her in the study, “And I think now, he understands where we’re all coming from.” she nodded affirmatively.

Hours passed, and it was now mid-evening. Marxus stood in the doorway, unsure if some would accept his presence. Like he needed their approval. Adjusting his vest and shirt sleeves in a Marxus fashion, he stepped aside, allowing several other residents to pass.

“Excuse me.” I stood. Walking toward him, saying nothing at first, I stood next to him, watching everyone taking a seat at the tables, “There are a lot of people here tonight that I have not had the chance to meet yet.” I observed, attempting to end the awkward silence between us.

“Yes, it seems everyone from the dwellings are here tonight.” he answered, “Even the Lycynians who seem to be behaving.” he observed the paranormals gathered in the corner in a large mass, “But that’s not why you’ve come over here, you haven’t come to discuss everyone, so why are you here, Little One?” he glanced down at her.

“The meeting with the parents, how did that go?” I looked up at him, “You got told, didn’t you?”

“Yes, I got told. The mob was quite loud, and expressive.” he nodded humorously, growing a faint grin, “How is Anthony?”

“Why does everyone keep asking me that as if I know?”

“Well, the two of you are…” Marxus paused.

“Is this one of those talks again?” I interrupted.

“No. I was just stating the obvious, that you are beginning a relationship and have bonded in ways other can’t understand, that’s what I meant.” he finished.

“Well in answer to your question, he’s all healed.” I finished.

“I’ll find Marxus.” Caleb worried.

“I’ll come with you.” Nick added, “It’s dinner so he might be at the manor.” he glanced at his watch, noticing the time.

“Right.” Caleb nodded.

The two Wraiths ran down the length of the wall teleporting in a dramatic fashion, reappearing in the manor’s foyer where Marxus and Yzavela stood in the doorway of the dining hall.

“Marxus!” the Guardians called out to the Immortal.

Turning around, glancing over his shoulder, he gazed upon the two Wraiths.

“Yes?” he asked, “What is it?”

“Nick and I were patrolling the lighthouse with Justin when, uh…” Caleb looked at Nick, “out in the distance, we saw what looks like a black mass coming toward us. At first, you know, we thought they were Ravens returning from the mainland but as they grew closer?”

“But as they grew closer?” I wondered.

“Speak!” Marxus commanded.

“They weren’t Ravens.” Nick finished.

“Weren’t Ravens? Meaning what?” I questioned.

Caleb placed his hands on the hilts of his guns tucked in their holsters. Glimpsing over Marxus’ shoulder, making sure they weren’t heard he finished in a soft whisper,

“As they grew closer, they weren’t Ravens like Nick said, but more like human-shaped black shadow-things.”

“Human-shaped black shadow-things.” I asked sarcastically.

“When they approached, they were solid like you and me, but once they reached the barrier surrounding the Isle, we could see they felt its physical block.”

“And?” Marxus frowned.

“Well, after that they…” Nick was interrupted.

“Nick I’m sorry but I think I know how they got through.” I proclaimed softly.

“It’s all right, go ahead cause it makes no sense to me.” Nick urged.

“When my mom and I lived in the Great City, we saw those very same things flying around at night, only at night, and they’re tricky but also very dangerous. They could disappear just like a wisp of smoke and or even blend within it, getting into the most unlikely places, through the smallest holes or cracks.” I fretted, thinking I’d never see them again, “They’re dark and frightening, but my mom and I had never come close to one, I heard bad things happen when they touch a person. I’ve seen it once and I don’t want to talk about it.”

“Bad things, indeed.” Marxus worried.

“She’s right though.” Caleb nodded toward Yzavela, “About it, or they, being solid one minute, then smoke-like the next.” he looked at Nick, “When the moon faded behind the clouds, the things were like wisps or black fog and I swear with my own eyes, I watched as they just glided through the barrier as if it were never there, blending with the fog that sweeps through, and across the island.”

“They’re probably flying overhead right now, we messaged all of the other Guardians so I’m sure they’re watching them.” Nick revealed, “They’re also taking precautions.”

“Once they feel threatened, there’s no stopping them so you need to message the others and tell them to remain perfectly still, and to not, I mean by any means, attack them magically.” Marxus affirmed, “They’re drawn to lights and magic, so just the slightest spark or bulb, will bring them down on all of us.”

“Right, got it.” Nick nodded, then turned, immediately typing out a message that was sent to all of the Guardians that were upon the wall, lighthouse or patrolling RP&V.

Marxus said nothing more, as he ran past Caleb and Yzavela, heading outside.

“Marxus? Yza?” Jonathan hollered out, seeing their panic, but received no reply. Standing from the table, he rushed toward Caleb, “Hey mate…” he shared a quick knuckle bump, “what the hell is going on?”

“It’s better if you see for yourself.” Caleb fretted, then turned.

“What’s going on?” Lady D approached with Erik, Hiromi, Sarah, Thomas and Anthony, then Leonard who was not too far behind them.

Caleb and Jonathan said nothing as they rushed outside ahead after Nick, with the others trailing quickly behind them, and as they all gathered around outside near the doors, their eyes watched as Marxus, Nick and Yzavela stood gazing up at the night sky where the moon’s illumination gave off just enough light that outlined figures of human-shaped black shadows.

Lady D gasped softly, knowing what they were. Reaching for her daughter’s hand, they shared a worried glance that the evil from the Great City had finally found them. Raising her gaze, Lady D watched as they shadows flew in swirling figure eight-like movements, releasing loud Banshee-like screams that pierced the quiet night, in deeper, muffled shrieks.

“They’re from the Great City, and they wouldn’t be this far out, unless they’re looking for something.” I worried, looking at Marxus then back at my mom, continuing to grip her hand.

“Back inside, all of you!” Marxus pleaded, turning to everyone, “Get inside NOW!” he urged them toward the door, “Lady D, Thomas, please keep everyone inside and don’t let anyone, by any means, leave the manor. And make sure all of you…” his Hazel eyes scanned all of the worried faces, “remain quiet.” he placed an index finger to his lips, hearing the creatures loud shrieks from the air above.

Hearing the tone in his voice, Lady D and Thomas nodded, as they retreated inside with the others, closing the door behind them.

“Yza!” Lady D pleaded, reaching for her daughter, “Get inside, hurry!”

“Lady D, get inside NOW!” Marxus argued, “She stays here!”

“Lady D…” Anthony approached her, “she’s needed out there, you’re needed here.” he placed a gentle hand on her shoulder, “And I’ll help in any way that I can, hmm?”

Looking at the Italian, receiving an affirmative nod, she knew he was right.

“Be careful!” she called out to her daughter, “You take care of her!” she warned the Immortal then turned, walking away.

“Thank you.” I mouthed the words to Anthony.

“You’re welcome.” he mouthed the reply with a brief wink.

Once the doors closed, I sighed, then turned to Marxus.

“Now what?” I whispered then glanced around seeing Erik, Jonathan and Hiromi nearby, all wanting to be part of this, not including Nick and Caleb.

Marxus turned to the Wraiths, asking them to take Yzavela and Hiromi upon the wall, while the others could teleport up there themselves.

“What about you?” Nick wondered.

“Don’t worry about me, please do as I request.” Marxus then looked around at the worried faces, before turning away, as he vanished in a white wisp-like essence that swirled through the air toward the wall.

“So that’s how he does it.” Caleb whispered.

“Caleb!” Nick urged.

“Right…” he shook his head, “sorry.” he held onto Yzavela, “Hold your breath love, it’s easier that way.” he gave her one of his killer, charming smiles. And just as he watched her hold her breath and close her eyes, he teleported to the wall with Nick and Hiromi close behind where Erik and Jonathan appeared seconds after.

“Now what?” Erik wondered.

Facing East, and the direction of the Great City, Marxus had studied the situation before turning to the Guardians and the others in his presence.

“Do not make a sound.” he whispered both telepathically, and verbally knowing the Demons and Wraiths could hear him, “They’re here because of you and your mother.” he groaned deeply, in a blunt telepathic tone, looking at Yzavela.

“Excuse me?!” I barked, “This isn’t my fault, don’t you dare blame me for this!”

“How did they find us?” Nick whispered.

I looked at the Wraith, then glanced up at the night sky, watching the creatures’ pattern, noticing they were drawn to lights spread out across the property and lanterns on the wall.

“The lights, it’s the lights!” I observed, “I think that’s what drew them here, the lighthouse.” I leered over at Marxus.

“Makes sense.” Nick nodded in recognition.

“Marxus…” I reached out telepathically, “it’s the lights!”

Turning to her, she gestured around the island. As he turned, taking notice for himself, he looked at her, offering a nod in affirmation of her observation. Glancing at Wyatt, knowing the Demon was a level 5 Electrokinetic, he asked him to help dim the lights across the island, even the lighthouse.

Wyatt nodded, then turned, standing at a side angle with his arms stretched out on either side of him; his hands glowed in a faint blue electric-like energy and as he glanced around him, all of the lights, within the wall or in RP&V, seemed to just fade away, as if they lost their purpose for light, but that was not all there was; Wyatt seemed to absorb the energy for only fellow purebloods and half-breeds could see faint wisps being drawn into the Demons’ hands that clenched close. His level 5 tattoo on his forearm glowed brightly, while his red Demon eyes scanned all of the curious faces watching him. He lowered his arms, shaking out hands that felt warm from all of the absorbed energy.

Caleb watched the creatures with his big dark eyes, taking a quick moment to realize that they materialized in and out of moments when the moon peeked between the clouds. As his hands reached for his guns, unsnapping the holster, he backed away with the others, watching as the creatures hovered too close before pulling away. Their forms appeared to be a full, mortal skeletal frame with skin stretched tightly across their bones, large white phantom eyes and no mouths. Their long, bony fingers cracked as they reach out, searching for victims of solid mass.

“Marxus…” he whispered, reaching for the man’s arm.

“Not now Caleb!” Marxus barked sternly.

“Marxus, he’s trying to tell you something!” I roughly turned him around, “God damn it, watch!” I pointed toward the sky, and the creatures, “Watch what happens when the moonlight shines on them, and when it doesn’t, watch!” I continued in a sharp tone, telepathically.

Breaking his gaze from her, he turned watching the quick but unnatural occurrence, seeing for himself that both Caleb and Yzavela were correct. Frowning, he glanced at his feet, trying to remember something a magical friend once told him about the creatures. He never battled against them during his first encounter with Drakuul, but now that the Necromancer had conjured newer-more advanced abominations, it worried him greatly. Turning to those crouched behind and beside him, he knew what must be done.

“Nick, Caleb, and Jonathan…I want you to release all of the Ravens.” Marxus instructed.

“The Ravens, why?” Jonathan whispered.

“Because they’re going to play a small part in what’s to come.”

The two Wraiths and Demon nodded, then quickly ran down the length of the wall, teleporting swiftly, avoiding attention from the Shadowed Ones hovering above. Appearing near the aviaries, listening as the large black birds loudly squawked, and flapped their wings, the Guardians sped through, quickly unlocking the cages, then stepped back, watching as an entire flock flew into the night sky, dropping rare black feathers to the ground in the rush. The Guardians shared a smile, before they quickly returned to the others that awaited the birds.

“What are you going to do?” Erik barked.

“Shh.” Hiromi hissed, grabbing his arm.

“Hush!” Marxus snapped, then bravely stood, cloaking all of our presences from the creatures above. Muttering a string of words in a low tone, holding out his hands, an energy began growing between his palms, forming a large ball swirling with magic that only Yzavela, and the other Demons present could see. Raising his hands, he released the magic that exploded like a dying star.

The creatures caught the flashing light, and becoming drawn to it like moths to a flame, just as they grew closer to a blast of pulsating magic, the Shadowed Ones were left motionless, but only for a moment.

Lowering his hands, Marxus glanced back, wondering where the hell the Ravens were, for it couldn’t have taken the three Guardians that long to release the birds from their aviaries, plus his magic wouldn’t last long against the creatures, since it was magic of the ethereal sense that they fed on like a star-nose mole devours its meal in less than a few seconds. It was then, Marxus heard the loud squawks approaching. As he grew a faint smile, he turned to Wyatt, instructing him to keep the clouds away the moon, like ripping off a bandage.

“Yes, Sir.” Wyatt nodded. Turning to two other Demons of his level 5 rank, the four of them muttered an arcane chant, all working with the elements around them.

I watched in admiration of how easy it came to the pureblood Demons, then glancing at the sky above, the clouds parted far from the moon and from my point-of-view, it looked like a set of bubbles being scraped off the surface of the water, and just as the moon shone brightly, the creatures became solid as the mass was kept frozen within Marxus’ containment bubble.

Suddenly, the Ravens arrived, beginning to peck at all of the creatures’ physical form, and although their beaks and talons pecked and scratches, some lost their lives in the process for the Shadowed Ones managed to break free of their frozen state, reaching out, absorbing the birds’ life force; it looked like the creatures were inhaling wisps of smoke through their hands. Lumps of feathered bodies fell to the ground outside the wall, or on the long walkway.

“Marxus, we need something stronger!” I groaned, but the man didn’t adhere to my words, “Fine.” I turned to Wyatt, “I need you and others that use Electrokinesis against most of the creatures that are still solid.” I ordered, “I’ve seen this once before and it’s the only chance we’ve got.”

“Right, okay!” Wyatt nodded, adhering to her orders, “Hey…” he called for other Demons and once there were at least four others figures standing close to the ledge of the wall, Wyatt shouted, “Now!” he and the other Demons released powerful blasts of blue electricity, that looked like they shot lightning from their fingertips, “Again!” he ordered, releasing another blast that burned through the creatures that shrieked in pain as they felt their solid forms disintegrate, but there was just one problem, the Demons couldn’t keep that up forever.

“We need something stronger than bloody Ravens, and the Demons can’t keep that going forever, they’re gonna burn out like batteries!” Caleb blurted crouching down as one of the creatures grew close enough to attempt reaching for him.

“Cállate, Caleb, y sigue las instrucciones por una vez en tu vida inmortal!” Marxus shouted, arguing with the young man, that he needed to remain quiet and listen for once, in his long, immortal life. Huffing, he turned, facing West, stretching out his arms, palms facing upward. Closing his eyes, continuing calling out in his Spanish tongue, he summoned Axeon from his cavern, needing to make his presence known, protecting the island by destroying the creatures in dragon’s fire. In a loud powerful voice, he summoned, “Guardián protector de Ravenstone, ¡te llamo ahora para proteger nuestro hogar! ¡Haz notar tu presencia a todos aquí, escucha mis palabras como si estuvieran en tu oído! ¡Vuela desde tu cueva subterránea, respira tu fuego y deja que se ahoguen!” S~ᴇaʀᴄh the Find_Nøvel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Everyone remained quiet, and crouched down, watching as the creatures slowly fed on the energy around them, as well as continuing to devour the Ravens when suddenly loud, and ear piercing roars were heard in the distance. Turning our attention West, we watched, breaking through the treetops, was a large blue familiar bulk flying straight up into the night sky. Leveling out his wings a majestic dragon released powerful, guttural roars as his eyes focused upon all of the creatures trapped within their magical barrier. Upon his approach, flapping his massive wings, we could hear the loud whooshing sound against the evening breeze.

“There!” Erik pointed, “Look!” he pointed again, watching as the Shadowed Ones broke free from Marxus’ containment.

Turning their attention upon the dragon, the Shadowed Ones shrieked as they soared toward the flying beast that gathered a large bellowing flame deep within his chest.

“Back away, back away!” Marxus shouted urgently, turning to everyone, “Go…NOW!” he rushed them back for he didn’t want them getting injured by dragon’s fire that was hotter than anything known to mortals, and not even Pyrokinetics could manipulate the flames, “Down!” he begged them all to crouch down further.

Axeon, hovering above the wall, studied the creatures then as he circled them several times, creating a powerful gust of a swirling wind, he released his dragon’s fire with temperatures and magical properties that disintegrated the Shadowed Ones into ash and embers. Among the sounds of roaring flames, it was an eerie contrast having the creatures shrieking loudly in pain as they were burned alive.

Everyone crouched down, trying to shield one another as the flames filled the sky above their heads, while avoiding falling embers and pieces of burning flesh that rained from above. It was just then however, I noticed, down the length of the wall, a tall hooded male figure, just standing there watching. I didn’t know who he was, or what purpose he might have had in this moment, but why was he here? Was he the Devil, that waited for unclaimed souls?

Lady D, Thomas, Anthony and Louisa, watched through the windows, as did many others who gathered in the lounge; all watched the occurrence taking place upon the wall, seeing the blasts of blue Electrokinetic magic that turned into a swirling mass of fire that had been released by a powerful dragon that hovered above unseen figures on the wall. Lady D gasped, for seeing Abraxas was one thing, because he was so small but seeing Axeon that was at least one hundred times bigger, was both incredible and surprising.

“My god…” she admired under her breath.

“That was our reaction too.” Anthony muttered softly.

“Magnificent though.” Thomas stood behind Louisa.

“He’s beautiful.” Lady D finished.

“Papa…papa…” Thomas’ children ran from the dining hall, “a dragon!” they cheered, pointing out the window.

“I know.” Thomas knelt in front of them, “Maybe Marxus will allow you meet him one day, hmm?”

“Really?” his son smiled.

“I want to ride him.” his daughter bounced on her toes.

“You most certainly will not!” Louisa huffed teasingly.

Watching as Axeon continued flapping, and breathing fire, a few of the others worried, wondering if the dragon was there to help the island, or destroy it, so retreating into the dining hall, they stayed away from the windows, huddling near the tables.

“Lady D…” Thomas’ voice spoke, “we should get away from the windows.” he suggested, gently patting her shoulder.

“Come dear, woman…” Louisa stepped forward, wrapping her arm around her shoulder in comfort, “why don’t you tell me about your daughter, hmm?” she smiled, trying to get the mother’s attention off what was taking place outside, “I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting her, believe it or not, but I have heard many good things from Thomas, and Anthony, who can’t seem to stop. I hear she’s strong, like her Ma-ma.”

Looking at the Italian woman, Lady D smiled.

“She’s much stronger than I am, in many ways.” she rasped.

“Then tell me.” Louisa guided her to the dining hall, while Thomas and Anthony remained by the doors.

Once the eerie shrieks ceased, and roaring flames dwindled, the great dragon hovered momentarily, flapping his wings that supported his weight, and his feet curled close to his body with his talons twitching as if ready for more. Releasing another guttural roar, he lowered his gaze, studying all of the figures upon the wall below. Landing gracefully on the edge, he stretched his wings out, and held his head high, breathing deeply. Catching the gaze of both Marxus and Yzavela, the dragon bowed his head in respect and acknowledgement of their presence, then scanned each and every other face.

As Marxus and Yzavela approached, petting the dragon’s soft scaled snout, the others stood baffled and in awe of the strong, but magical presence the dragon presented.

“Whoa…” Justin mumbled, “so that’s what flies around here.”

“That’s a dragon.” another Guardian whispered.

“Yes, a dragon.” Marxus declared proudly, “I’m surprised that his presence is so shocking, considering what lives on the Isle, hmm?” he tilted his head, looking at the Guardians.

“Yeah, well it’s different when…” and before Justin could say another word, loud grunts and squeals erupted from outside the gates. As he, and others peeked over the ledge of the wall, the Boar-wolves gathered near the gates, loudly scratching at the slate, offering their threatening demeanor, while feeding on the dead bodies of the Ravens that lay scattered nearby, “I guess they’re upset they didn’t get any leftover.” Justin said in a soft, but truth tone.

“Leave it to them to have the last say.” Erik shrugged, then as he turned to his father, he watched as he knelt on his knees, “Oh no…” he complained, knowing his father was worshiping Axeon’s presence, for the Chinese culture worshiped dragons as a sign of power, perseverance and strength, “father, come on get up…” he quickly helped him from the ground, “please, not now.” he begged.

Staring into his son’s eyes, Hiromi frowned, then glanced at the beautiful, magnificent dragon, keeping his image close in memory.

“All right…” Marxus broke the moment of admiration, as he ceased petting Axeon’s snout, “I think enough excitement has been shared for one evening. Or a lifetime.” his Hazel eyes glanced toward Yzavela, referring to their trek in Scotland, “I believe the hour is late, so let’s all retire for the night and yes, if any of you would like to come to the study and discuss his presence…” he turned to Axeon once more, “you are welcome to do so.” he received eager nods in reply.

“That’s great but, how are we going to get down?” I looked around, knowing there were no elevators, stairs or ladders.

“Same way you got up here.” Marxus teased bluntly.

“And what about you?” Hiromi wondered curiously.

“Don’t worry about me, I have my ways.” Marxus remarked as he turned, climbing upon Axeon’s back, “Good evening.” he offered his farewell then felt the dragon push himself off the wall with one strong flap of his wings, lifting his bulk into the air. Circling twice, he flew high above the Isle.

“Wow…” a chorus of voice admired before Guardians turned, returning to their posts after Yzavela had instructed them to do so, taking her position as soon-to-be Keeper seriously.

As Jonathan, Erik and Hiromi vanished, I was left alone.

“Um…” I mumbled, “half-breed here, I can’t teleport. Hello?”

“Need a lift, love?” Caleb leaned in behind her.

“Yes, please.” I turned, accepting the offer.

“The pleasure is mine.” he smiled, “And any time you need a lift, just let me know.” then gently holding onto her waist, he instructed her to hold her breath, because a Wraith’s version of teleportation was different from Demons. Reappearing by the manor’s front doors, he released his hold on her waist, “There you go.” he backed away.

“Whoa, what a trip.” I teased, “That’s what it’s like for you?”

“Everyday, but you get used to it after a while.” Caleb offered another charming smile, “Gotta go. Take care, love.” he gave her a quick wink then turned, and in a step, he disappeared in a puff of black mist that vanished quickly.

“Cool.” I muttered, then turned, seeing Erik standing by the door with a look of disbelief on his face, “What?” I shrugged, “I can’t portal, and I wasn’t about to stand around waiting for you, or Jonathan so I took the next best offer.”

“You’re kidding, right?” Erik argued, “I was coming back for you, if only you had waited long enough, and trust me. And if you’re flirting with Caleb, how will your wolf feel about that?”

“I’m going to ignore the fact that you just said that because I know you’re jealous, and it’s not a good look for you, and it’s really none of your business, because we’re friends, remember? I thought we agreed on that!” I argued impatiently.

“We did, but I just thought we could talk about it.”

“Talk about it?” I huffed, “No, we talked about it, that’s it!”

“Yzavela.” Anthony’s voice emerged from the doorway.

“Bloody hell.” Erik looked away, “Always around, aren’t you?” he complained, “Lurking in the bloody shadows.”

“I’m fine.” I smiled at Anthony, “Erik and I were done.”

“No we weren’t, we were just getting ready to talk when your wolf came along, sticking his bloody nose where it doesn’t belong.” Erik gestured at the Italian.

“What have I ever done to you, to make you hate me so much? I would really like to know, because I’ve done nothing to you Erik, nothing at all, and especially not against your Demon kind.” Anthony shrugged, “So please, tell me, because I’m really losing my respect.” he growled deeply, clenching firm fists.

Before Erik could step forward, arrogantly saying something he wouldn’t be able to take back, I stepped between the two men, pressing my hands against their chests with a faint red, fiery Aura flickering between my fingers.

“Enough of this, NOW!” I groaned, “You are not, and will not, do this! Now, even though I appreciate your concern, please don’t do this.” I pleaded, looking up at Anthony, “This isn’t you, you’re better than this childish bullsh*t!” I lowered my hands then turned to Erik, “As far as you and me, I am only going to say this once, we are friends…nothing more, and if you persist to think otherwise, I won’t have a choice but to put you in Nathan’s category and that’s not a place you want to be.” I frowned.

“Erik!” Hiromi emerged from inside, standing by the door.

“Saved by your father.” I announced softly, “Goodnight, Erik.”

Knowing he was put in his place, and unprepared to stand up against a Lycynian as protective and powerful as Anthony, he nodded, walking around the Latina and Italian. Approaching his father, he glanced back, taking notice Yzavela hadn’t even looked back, as she looked up at Anthony, shaking her head. He turned away, retreating inside with his father.

“Was that really necessary?” I looked at Anthony, “Hmm?”

“I didn’t start it, you know that.” Anthony moaned, “And all that I said was true, I haven’t done anything to his kind, for I have nothing against him, nor against anyone, for they have done nothing to me so why would I single out one just for the sake of it, and now of all times?” he wondered, feeling a little hot tempered, placing his hands on his hips in an Anthony sort of way that she found attractive.

“I can’t speak for Erik, or explain why he does what he does, or says what he says.” I shrugged, “And so far, everything I’ve heard about you, no one can say one bad thing against you, so who cares about what one, spoiled and arrogant Erik, says or thinks, hmm?” I approached, leaning in close, to wrap my arms around his waist, “Besides, all that matters is what I think about you, no?” I smiled, looking up at him, feeling his hands holding my waist.

“True, and…what do you think about?” he smiled charmingly.

“Things.” I teased softly.

“Things, huh?” he growled sensually, flicking his eyebrows, “Does that include dreams or…fantasies even?”

“Well…” I played it coy, and shyly, “I’m entitled.”

“Yza!” Lady D called out from inside, and just as she stepped outside, she turned away, “Oops, sorry.” she interrupted the tender moment between her daughter and apparent boyfriend.

“You really have the worst timing.” I complained, looking at her.

“It’s all right.” Anthony reassured.

“Mommy, come on…turn around.” I reached out, tapping her shoulder, “We weren’t doing anything bad, it’s not like we’re naked.” I suddenly realized how that sounded, then had all of the images of my fantasies, and that of Anthony’s as well race through my mind, “Nevermind.” I cleared my throat.

“I should go see if Thomas and Louisa need help, putting the twins at ease. Seeing a dragon for the first time can be most overwhelming, especially for children.” Anthony announced.

“Okay.” I smiled, feeling his hands grip mine before letting go. As he walked away, I bit my lip, enjoying his masculine strut, then looked away, hiding my blushing face, before looking at my mom, “Yes?”

“Nothing.” Lady D approached, then turned, watching as the man strutted away, “Phew…” she teasingly fanned herself, “what a man. Now, why didn’t you tell me there was another dragon on the island? I mean sure, you told me about Axeon when you got back, but you didn’t tell me he was that big!” her fear subsided, being replaced with a sense of awe and admiration.

“I already told you.” I looped my arm through hers, turning to the manor behind us, “I’m sorry, but there are still a lot that I can’t tell you, that’s all I can say but now you know, so what did you think about him?”

“Him? Another male dragon?” Lady D pondered, “Well, he was magnificent, and Axeon is his name, is it?” she watched as her daughter nodded, “What does it mean?”

“Marxus told me it meant the Blue One.” I answered.

“Blue One. Fitting, very fitting.” Lady D scanned the sky but his form was unseen, “So where does he live, or dwell? Surely, everyone would have noticed a massive dragon strolling here and there across the island, don’t you think?”

“The less you know about him, the better.” I yawned, “God, I am so tired so why don’t we go back to our rooms and catch up on some sleep, hmm? I’m sure tomorrow has many more surprises in store.” I mumbled.

“Yes, all right.” Lady D walked alongside her daughter.

As the two women offered their evenings farewells, they had retired back to their dwelling, as did many others, and then the island slept; a dead stillness lingered, aside from the loud squeals and snorts from the Boar-wolves and of course, the hellhound that howled from Yzavela’s balcony.
