Chapter 14

Kira had massacred the library by the time Sephiroth found her. She had papers thrown across the desk and floor. She would pick up a book, skim though it and throw it across the room with a curse. He timidly approached her as she flipped through another book.

“What is it you seek daughter?” He asked as he leaned across the desk.

“I want the truth papa.” She stated as another book went flying.

“Sit with me. I will tell you all I know.” He sighed.

“Alright,” She said and sat down at the desk.

“Your mother and I went to the academy together. We fought long and hard and were eventually paired as equals. I fell so much in love with her that I wanted to ask her to be my bride.” He smiled in remembrance.

“We knew him as master Dominicus back then. He had other plans for your mother. He thought if he killed her he could gain control over the pagan powers of Avalon. So he attempted to assassinate her.” He continued.

“It failed of course. Your mother escaped to the realm known as Earth. Dominicus tore the lands apart looking for her. He murdered thousands of innocent people searching for her, including your grandmother.” He sighed. “When he realized that she was on Earth he cast a spell that made me believe his crimes were mine. We both went to Earth looking for her. If it had not been for Dominicus’ mother breaking the spell we never would have realized that he was who he was.” He rubbed his temples.

“Eventually we learned that Dominicus was actually Domascus and he had murdered his own brother for power. We returned here to Avalon where your mother gave up everything to keep him from hurting anyone else.” He stated.

“That’s when I set him free and he killed her. But why not me?” She asked.

“That is why he is called the deceiver. He can’t take your power without your permission. He has to trick you into giving it freely.” Sephiroth admitted.

“So, you think that he didn’t try to hurt me until today because he benefits more if I love him.” She reasoned.

“Yes Kira, as kind as he was to you, it was all a lie. You cannot trust him.” Sephiroth begged.

“I understand your reasoning. But I reserve the right to make my own judgment.” She stated.

“I respect that. Just use clarity and logic my daughter. Do not let your feelings cloud your reasoning.” He insisted.

“I need time to think.” She said.

“One more thing and I’ll leave you to it. When will you return to the academy?” He asked.

“I don’t think I will. It’s not on my list of things to consider.” She smiled.

“Very well, be careful daughter.” He kissed her head.

“I will papa.” She smiled and he left her to her thoughts.
