Conway was sound asleep. After Seraphina had stayed by his side for a while, she turned to Balch, I’m sorry, I really wanted to introduce you to my grandpa.” Balch gently patted her shoulder, whispenng, “It’s alright, there will be plenty of chances in the future”
Hearing this, Seraphina looked worriedly at the sleeping Conway
Seeing her expression, Balch said, “You stay here with your grandpa, I’ll go downstairs. Call me if anything happens”
Seraphina nodded without tuming around Balch then headed downstairs.
Downstairs, Leandro was lounging on the sofa, puffing away at a cigarette with a glass of whisky on the table in front of him.
He had his eyes closed, but opened them slowly when he heard footsteps. He saw Balch.
“Looks like Conway’s condition is stable now. Balch approached, “You don’t need to worry too much, Mr. Reynolds.”
“Thank you, Mr. Lawson. Care for a drink?”
Balch smiled, “No thanks, I drove here.”
Leandro took a sip of his whisky and resumed his quiet smoking.
Seeing Leandro’s obvious irritation, Balch didn’t linger for further conversation. Instead, he headed outside.
Once under the eaves, Balch lit up a cigarette, quietly taking in the view of the manor.
This was where she grew up. It was indeed hard to let go.
Before he finished his cigarette, his phone suddenly rang
It was a call from the company. There had been some mishaps with a project in Europe that required his personal attention.
Why did it happen at this time?
Balch stubbed out his cigarette and walked back into the living room. Lacy was asking Leandro, “It’s already so late, and we don’t know when Conway will wake up. Should we prepare a guest room for Ms. Bennett?”
Leandro didn’t respond, he just stared blankly at Balch who had just entered.
Balch smiled, “Sera is really worried about Conway. I doubt she’ll leave anytime soon. If she stays here, please take good care of her, Mr. Reynolds.”
Leandro met his gaze and slowly said, “She’s part of the Reynolds family. There’s no need for Mr. Lawson to worry about such trivial matters.”
Hearing this, Balch calmly replied, “I’d do it for her, even if no one else would.”
After saying this, Balch went upstairs. Lacy, who was still standing nearby, shivered.
With Conway still unconscious and Seraphina unable to leave him, she decided to see Balch off.
Leandro was no longer in the living room. Seraphina walked Balch to the door.
“Call me if you need anything.” Balch said.
Seraphina just smiled, “I’m not that helpless
Balch chuckled, gave her a peck on the forehead, and drove off.
As Seraphina watched him leave, she turned and saw the balcony–the place where Vivian fell.
Seraphina stood at the front door, staring at that spot for a moment before she turned and went back inside.
Back upstairs, Seraphina walked slowly along the dimly lit corridor and onto the balcony.
The old house, long uninhabited, was well–maintained, but still carried a sense of decay.
Why had Vivian fallen from here years ago?
Lost in her thoughts, Seraphina was startled by Leandro’s voice behind her, “Are you here to reminisce or to repent?”
