Deal with the Devil

In the evening, after we were finally done with all the gifts, we headed to our rooms while the girls took Aaron on a tour of the palace. We thought he’d be tired but he was happy to do so. Besides, I’m happy seeing the girls welcome Aaron so open-heartedly. He’s going to be a part of the family after all.

I can’t believe Amara finally found her mate, and that it was Aaron all along. I know she’s in good hands. He’ll keep her safe and happy, I’m sure of it.

“C, what were you guys talking about before I got your gift yesterday? You sounded weirdly serious. I didn’t ask yesterday because I didn’t want to spoil the mood.”

I asked remembering the time. I just felt a strange vibe before I knocked. I could feel C’s emotions to a certain extent, especially strong ones, because I’m her mate and at that time, she didn’t seem happy. But I didn’t want to ask yesterday and ruin the mood so I didn’t bother mentioning it.

Suddenly, C turned serious like the memory clicked and she seemed worried.

“What’s wrong?” I asked concerned.

“Cyrus, did you know I have a heart birthmark on my neck; the same one as yours?”

“Umm….yes your tattoo…. Wait. Is it a birthmark? Wh…how? How do we have the same birthmark? And why did we never talk about this?”

“I don’t know. I thought it was a mate thing. Did you think it was a tattoo all along?”

“Yes. I first saw it on our one-month anniversary and thought you got it to match mine. It never occurred to me that it was a birthmark.”

“What do you think it means?”

“I have no clue. But calm down. It’s probably nothing. We’re probably freaking out for no reason.”

“Do you want to stop by your parents’ house today so we can ask about it though?” she asked.

“Sure! I’m sure they’ll know what it means.”

With that, we went to my parent’s house. We didn’t tell anyone where we were going because we didn’t want to worry anyone but I mind-linked Elliot that we were out.

It was a short drive from the palace to their house. We rang the bell and my mom opened it.

“Hello, Cyrus and Celina! What brings you here today?” she asked smiling.

“Hey, mom! We wanted to ask you something. Can we come in?”

She nodded and led us to the living room. My father was also sitting there drinking a cup of coffee.

“Hello Cyrus, Celina. How lovely of you to visit us! Come, sit.”

We all sat down.

“So, we wanted to discuss something with you.” I started.

“Is there a problem?” my dad asked.

“Well, is it normal for Alpha and his mate to have matching birthmarks?” Celina asked.

“Celina and I have a matching heart birthmark on our neck. We have no idea what that means but we were hoping you would.” I explained.

My parents gasped and looked at each other worried.

“What’s wrong?”

“Cyrus, we have something to tell you. After having Amara, your mother got into a terrible accident. She recovered due to her werewolf abilities but the doctor said that she couldn’t bear another child. As much as it disappointed us, we couldn’t do anything about it.” My father explained.

“So am I adopted?” I asked in shock.

“What? No, of course not! You were a miracle. I somehow got pregnant and even with the risk of losing my life, I couldn’t bring myself to abort you. However, when you were born, things got… complicated. You were in a critical condition and your chances of survival were very low. You were in the incubator for a week when the doctors said that you would probably die in a few days. But we already fell in love with you and couldn’t lose you. So, we made a… deal.” My mother continued.

“What deal?” Celina asked.

“I had a friend, who was a witch, and she owed me. Although she couldn’t keep you from dying, she suggested another method. She said we could ask Hades to help you survive. We had no other option so we agreed. She helped us contact him and well…. We managed to convince him to save you.”

“You made a deal with the devil to save me? What did he do though? And how does it relate to our matching birthmarks?”

“He said that he linked your life with a very strong person. His or her power would allow you to live. However, exactly forty years later, he would come and claim one of the souls. So either you or the person you were linked to would have to go to hell with him and serve him for 40 years. We didn’t have any other option at that time, so we just agreed.”

“And did he tell you who I was linked to?” I asked.

“No, all we knew was that he or she would have the same mark as yours and that he/she was very powerful, so his/her powers would prevent you from dying.” My mother finished.

“So, what you mean to say is that either I or Celina would die in ten years from now and you never thought to mention this piece of information with me in thirty years?” I shouted.

I couldn’t believe it! First, it took me so long to find my mate. Usually, wolves find their mate between the ages of eighteen to twenty because the mate bond gets activated at the age of eighteen. Since Celina was not part of a pack and was hidden, I was twenty-four when I found her. After six years, I find out that I only have ten more years with her because one of us would have to serve the devil for forty years.

Even if they didn’t know that I was linked with Celina, how could they do that to someone? Limit someone’s life and make either them or me Hades’s slave. That’s against everything they ever taught me; being kind and putting others before yourself. I just can’t deal with them right now. It’s too much to take. I need space and to take out this anger building up in me.

BTW, do you like Aaron and Amara? I know I did not write much about the development of Celina and Cyrus' and V and Elliot's bond, so I'll try my best in Amara and Aaron. I'm not sure how good I am though cause this is kind of my first time writing stuff like this.
